bleedCrimson.net: You had four players, Bobby Lecount, Tanner Rust, Michael Medina and Evan Mott earn All-WAC honors and all four were very deserving.
Rocky Ward: It was a little different this year because you have ten teams instead of seven and the same number of all-conference spots available. I think Rust and Lecount were clear First Teamers and I thought Medina had earned First Team in particular because of his play in league. He was in the top six or eight hitters in conference play. I'm sure he was happy with the Second Team honor. Evan Mott, when you consider that a couple years ago was the first time we'd had a pitcher earn an all-conference honor, it's good to get a guy on and he was well deserving. I think both Medina and Mott were on the borderline of being First Team. I think we were well represented, especially when you finish as the six-seed out of a ten team league you expect the guys who finished in the top two or three to get a few more guys and I think that's how it worked out.

I've always been a big proponent of honoring as many guys as you can with what they did in their career. In the old Big Eight every senior was honorable mention at the least. I think that overall the guy that I felt got left out was Kyle Phillips. I thought his numbers were good enough to be considered to a Second Team guy. His conference numbers were very good. I think in the big picture Tanner Rust and Bobby Lecount are guys who should be given serious consideration for All-American honors with their overall numbers. You pretty much have to be First Team all-conference to be considered for All-American. GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (May 21, 2013) – The Western Athletic Conference released its 2013 all-WAC baseball teams and postseason awards as selected by the league’s head coaches and four New Mexico State baseball players were selected, with two on the first team and two on the second team.

Senior third baseman Bobby Lecount and junior catcher Tanner Rust were named to the first team, while junior right fielder Michael Medina and senior relief pitcher Evan Mott were voted to the second team.

Lecount played in 54 games this year and led the league with 67 RBI. He hit .356 against WAC opponents and posted more than half of his RBI (37) against league foes. Lecount also led the team and the lead with 38 walks while 21 of those walks came in WAC play. He led the team and finished second in the WAC with 14 home runs during the 2013 regular season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

After finishing the 2013 regular season with a 28-26 overall record and a 13-14 record in WAC play, the Aggie baseball team will head to Grand Prairie, Texas as the six-seed in the 2013 WAC Tournament.

Due to a format change for this year's WAC tournament to a pool play format the Aggies know their three opponents prior to playing their first game of the tournament. As the six-seed the Aggies will face 3-seed Texas State on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. (MT). On day two the Aggies will face two-seed UT-Arlington at 2:00 p.m. (MT). On the final day of pool play the Aggies will play seven-seed Dallas Baptist at 2:00 p.m. (MT).

The team with the best record head to head against their fellow pool members will advance to the championship game on Sunday, May 26th.

BELLEVUE, WA - The New Mexico State baseball team lost the regular-season finale 7-6 to Seattle U in Bellevue, Wash., Saturday, May 18. The Aggies finish the regular season 28-26 and 13-14 in Western Athletic Conference play and the Redhawks ended their year at 21-33 and 10-16 in league play.

The Aggies started the game with back-to-back home runs as senior Parker Hipp hit a two-run shot to right field, which was followed by a solo shot that was blasted by senior Bobby Lecount to left field. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Equestrian head coach Robin Morris-Walters announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Corynne Cromwell will join the Hunter Seat squad and Katlynn Crine and Alexa Mercier will join the Western line up.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Green Bay Packers announced Tuesday the Signing of former New Mexico State defensive end Donte Savage. Savage is listed as a linebacker with the Packers. The transaction was announced by Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations.

Savage participated in the team’s rookie orientation camp this past weekend on a tryout basis. Savage played in all 12 games at defensive end for the Aggies in 2012 and led the defensive line with 45 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, three sacks, four QB hurries, two blocked kicks, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed. As a sophomore in 2009, he registered 53 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two passes defensed and a blocked punt.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Rocky Ward: It was a weekend where we really couldn't get any traction. We didn't play terrible baseball but we didn't play great. We just kind of played in the middle. They made plays that needed to be made and we didn't. We left a boatload of people on base all weekend and in particular game three. That was a game that we'd finally gotten the edge. We'd gotten a 4-2 lead and got a zero on the board and kind of had control of the game and had runners on base and couldn't score. We had runners on second, couldn't get it done. We had a leadoff double that couldn't score. A man at third with less than two and couldn't score. It was overall a frustrating weekend.

We had a couple more injuries. Kyle Phillips missed the Saturday game because of a rib injury. Ormseth on Sunday hurt his elbow, we'll have a little bit better idea later. We're already pretty short. The game Phillips didn't play, Brandon Cooper played well. He had a double and score a run that kind of got us moving. We just couldn't get much together. They're [UTSA] kind of an emotional team and that type of team has a tendency to do well when they're on the top side and they were on the top side most of the time except for a few innings and in those cases where we led we made mistakes. When Ormseth came out there was a man at second and we wild pitch him to third and then wild pitch him in. Just shoot ourselves into the foot and put them back in the game. They've got some guys with some pop and one of them barreled it up and put it out of the yard. Then we lost a man and gave up a three run inning. It's been our achilles heel. We really struggle with giving up multiple run innings. I think if you look at our statistics, I think that maybe this ball club has put up more shutout innings than any team I've had but they've also had a tendency to give up three and four run innings on the other side of it.   Continue Reading This Post >>

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Senior left hand pitcher Ryan Beck tallied seven strikeouts on the afternoon and New Mexico State attempted a ninth inning comeback but fell short losing 6-5 to UTSA in game two of the three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas, Saturday, May 11.

NM State trailed 5-0 heading to the fifth but the Aggies showed a never-say-die attitude losing by just one run. The Aggies are now 5-3 in one-run games and continue to struggle in away-games holding a 6-13 record on the road.  Continue Reading This Post >>

RUSTON, LA - The New Mexico State softball fell in the 2013 edition of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship game with a 4-0 final score to the San Jose State Spartans on Saturday, May 11. The Aggies finish the season with a 37-20 overall record.

A tough day at the plate for the Aggies ended with just one Aggie hit off the bat of Staci Rodriguez. Freshman pitcher Makayla McAdams took the loss for the Aggies as she pitched just 0.2 innings but gave up the initial two SJSU runs.

“I am extremely proud of this team and the way they played all year,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “It is always disappointing to end the season like this, but I cannot be more pleased with the way this team worked and grew every day this season.”  Continue Reading This Post >>
