White Defeats Crimson 3-0 In Soccer Scrimmage

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State soccer team held a Crimson and White scrimmage in preparation for the 2012 season, and the White team won 3-0.

The White squad didn't waste time attacking and scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute, when senior forward Yolanda McMillion found senior forward Cassie De Leon on the right side.

"Overall, I think it was good," head coach Blair Quinn said. "I was pleasantly surprised. We had been struggling in the last couple days to put the lines together. The defending line was playing well by themselves, the midfield line, the forward line, they each were playing well by themselves, but they weren't playing well together yet and connecting."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Ends Season With 3-0 Loss To Fresno State In WAC Semifinals

FRESNO, CA - In its first WAC Tournament semifinals appearance, the New Mexico State soccer fell to tournament host Fresno State, 3-0.

The No. 6 seed Aggies recorded their best season in school history with not only the semifinals showing but also a program-best 10 wins in 2011. NM State finished the season 10-8-3, while Fresno State moved to 11-4-5 and a meeting with Utah State in the title match.

"That is a very, very good team," head coach Blair Quinn said. "I think that's the best team we've played all year. They play a fairly unique system, and it's something we saw a couple weeks ago but had a hard time dealing with. Aggies Head To WAC Tournament Semifinals After 2-1 Victory Over Hawai'i

FRESNO, CA - The New Mexico State soccer team won its first-ever WAC Tournament match with a 2-1 victory over Hawai'i for a school-record 10th win of the season.

The Aggies entered the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed and upset No. 3 seed Hawai'i. NM State improved to 10-7-3, while the Rainbow Wahine fell to 5-12-1. The Aggies move on to face No. 2 seed Fresno State, Friday, Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m.

"It's exciting for the program," head coach Blair Quinn said. "It's the first postseason win and the 10th win of the year, which is a program record."

The Rainbow Wahine scored first in the 20th minute of action to take a 1-0 lead on a goal from Krystal Pascua.

Aggie Soccer Defeats Hawai'i 1-0 On Senior Day, Earn Final Spot In WAC Tournament

The New Mexico State soccer team earned their first every victory on Senior Day as they defeated the visiting Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine 1-0 behind a goal in the 51st minute by freshman Bree Luhrsen. Jessica Schutter recorded a pair of saves in the shutout victory which marked the first time in conference play this season the Wahine have been held scoreless as the Wahine came into the match averaging 2.6 goals per match in WAC play.

The Aggie victory coupled with a 2-1 victory by Fresno State over Nevada secured the Aggies' spot in the WAC Tournament being held next week in Fresno, Calif.

The Aggies out-shot the Wahine 13-5 and recorded seven shots on goal versus just two for UH. The Aggies also recorded eight corner kicks and did not allow a corner kick by Hawai'i the entire match and it marked the first time in conference play that the Aggies have not allowed a corner kick by an opponent.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Earns 2-2 Draw Against Fresno State

FRESNO, CA - In the last road game of the regular season, the New Mexico State soccer team earned a 2-2 tie in double overtime at Fresno State.

This was the fourth consecutive overtime game for the Aggies, who are 8-7-3 and 1-3-2 in the WAC, while Fresno State moved to 9-4-4 and 3-1-1.

"It was unbelievable," head coach Blair Quinn said. "We played so hard, and I'm really proud of them. That's a very good team, and we made adjustments that made a big difference."

The Aggies trailed 1-0 when Fresno State scored in the 38th minute on a header from junior forward Callie Hancock.

In the second half, NM State tied the game at 1-1 in the 73rd minute when the ball bounced off the Bulldogs and into the Aggie net for an own goal.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Loses Heartbreaker At San Jose State In Double Overtime

SAN JOSE, CA -For the third consecutive match, regulation wasn't enough time for the New Mexico State soccer team. At the end of double overtime, the Aggies fell to San Jose State, 2-1.

NM State moved to 8-7-2 and 1-3-1 in the WAC, while San Jose is 4-10-1 and 2-1-1.

The match was scoreless in the first half. The Spartans scored first with a goal in the 56th minute.

The Aggies responded in the 63rd minute when freshman forward Katelynn Tupponce scored her first conference goal to even the match at 1-1. Tupponce drilled the ball of off her left football into the left post after junior defender Vanessa Thomas fired a shot into the middle of the field after a corner kick.

The game nearly ended in a tie but San Jose State capitalized on a penalty kick in the final second of double overtime, when junior forward/defender Kelsey Lord sank the free kick.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Win Overtime Thriller Against Nevada, Notch First Conference Win

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In the second overtime match of the season, the New Mexico State soccer team defeated Nevada, 2-1, for its first WAC victory of 2011. Junior forward Yolanda McMillion scored the game-winning goal in the Aggies' conference home opener.

NM State improved to 8-6-1 and 1-2-0 in the WAC in its first overtime match at home this season and first in league play, while the Wolf Pack fell to 3-12-0 and 1-2-0.

McMillion secured the Aggies' first-ever win over Nevada with her fourth score and second game winner of the season in the 97th minute. She scored on a corner kick from freshman midfielder Amber Harrington.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall 2-0 At Utah State

LOGAN, UT - In its second consecutive WAC road match, the New Mexico State soccer team fell to Utah State, 2-0.

The Aggies slipped to 7-6-1 and 0-2-0 in the conference, while USU moved to 9-4-1 and 1-1-0 in WAC play. NM State returns to Las Cruces to host Nevada, Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. in the WAC home opener at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

"It was another slow start," head coach Blair Quinn said. "To be honest that's what is killing us right now. We are starting games and halves too slowly. We are letting the other team get into their rhythm before we get into ours, and it's harder to disrupt that and then create our own. We have to start faster."

The match was scoreless until Utah State broke the tie in the 37th minute with a goal off of a deflection. In the second half, the Navy-clad Aggies added another goal in the 59th minute of action.  Continue Reading This Post >>
