Aggies Fall 4-0 To Lobos To End Non-Conference Play

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In the non-conference finale, the New Mexico State soccer team suffered its first loss inside Aggie Memorial Stadium this season, as the Aggies fell to New Mexico, 4-0.

NM State finished non-conference play with a 7-4-1 record, while the Lobos moved to 6-4-2.

"It's not how we wanted to end the non-conference portion of the season," head coach Blair Quinn. "The first half was all the difference. We weren't very good in the first half. We looked very flat.

"We came out really slow, and we usually don't play like that. The second half was a lot better, but it was too late. We played faster in the second half, and we pressed more."

New Mexico scored first with a goal in the 26th minute of action, when senior midfielder Jael Fanning gave the Lobos a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, an Aggie miscue led to a New Mexico goal.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Coast To 7-0 Victory Over Embry-Riddle

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State soccer team scored a season-high seven goals en route to a 7-0 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical.

Freshman forward/midfielder Katie Smith and freshman forward Layla Todd both scored two goals each for the Aggies. NM State improved to 7-3-1 on the year, while the Eagles fell to 1-7-0.

"It was a good win," head coach Blair Quinn. "Anytime you score seven goals that's always a positive. We had new kids on the score sheet as well, that haven't scored yet this year. Sometimes all it takes is getting that first goal and then they feel like they can open up and have more confidence to go to the goal. "

The Aggies scored in the 19th minute when Smith capitalized on a freshman forward Katelynn Tupponce rebound.

Junior forward Yolanda McMillion gave the Aggies a 2-0 lead with a header on a free kick from freshman midfielder Amber Harrington in the 30th minute.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies' Unbeaten Streak Ends At Weber State

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

OGDEN, UT - The seven-match unbeaten streak for the New Mexico State soccer team was snapped with a loss at Weber State, 3-0.

The Aggies fall to 6-3-1 in the final non-conference road trip of the season, while the Wildcats moved to 2-6-0 in their second home match of the year.

"It was a good game," head coach Blair Quinn said. "There weren't many shots at all for either team. We certainly didn't have enough shots at their goal. They played in the midfield a lot. I thought our midfield did a good job of matching up, since they were playing with four midfielders and we played with three."

At halftime, NM State trailed 1-0 when Weber State took advantage of an Aggie defender slipping to chip in the first goal of the match in the 40th minute.  Continue Reading This Post >>

The victory ties the school record for consecutive wins with five, and the Aggies improved to 5-2-0, while the Bears slipped to 1-4-1.

"It was very exciting," head coach Blair Quinn said. "It was what we have been asking them to do for an entire 90 minutes. It just happened to keep going. Obviously, the tension builds in the last few minutes of a game like that, so it gets more exiting. I think we did the same things for 90 minutes of the game, and it was a great finish. It was a great strike on goal."  Continue Reading This Post >>
