Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Forward Audriana Chavez came through in the clutch for the New Mexico State women’s soccer team with the game-winning goal, 2-1, in double overtime Friday night on their home field over Battle of I-10 rival UTEP.

In front of a sell-out crowd, Chavez made a huge play for the Aggies which led them to claim their first victory in the Battle of I-10. It was the first win for any head coach in NM State women’s soccer history.

The first period of the match showcased the defensive talents of both the Aggies and Miners. With UTEP claiming the first goal at the 30:20 mark, the Aggies went into halftime optimistic. Head coach Freddy Delgado knew his team was strong, but had to work on a few techniques in order to make a comeback in the second period.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Soccer Falls To Utah Valley 2-0 In WAC Tournament First Round

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

KANSAS CITY, MO - The NM State women’s soccer team saw its season come to a close Thursday afternoon at the Durwood Soccer Stadium as it fell to Utah Valley 2-0.

Possessing the ball was once again the crux for NM State as it got outshot by UVU 21-6 and held without a shot on goal the entire game.

Possession was very back-and-forth in the opening minutes of the first half between NM State and Utah Valley. Then, in the 12th minute of the game, the Aggies had trouble clearing the ball inside the box that UVU’s Libby Weber took advantage of and sent into the back of the net.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Soccer Defeats UTRGV 1-0 On Late Goal By Galicia

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior Day at the Soccer Athletic Complex in Las Cruces, N.M. featured strong defensive play from both teams as NM State recorded the game’s only goal with 6:11 remaining in the contest, as they shutout UT-Rio Grande Valley 1-0.

The Aggies (5-12-2) faced seven shots on goal and goaltender Ashley Martin stood tall and saved them all. Along with the stellar play by Martin, the NM State defense blocked three shots and safely defended two corner kicks, the only ones of the game.

From the start, NM State and UTRGV looked to end the season on a high note with aggressive play. However, this play resulted in nine fouls combined for the two teams as they headed in to the locker rooms at halftime. Coupled with the aggressive play, the first 45 minutes of action highlighted great defense by both squads as each team fired four shots, to no avail, as the half ended in a 0-0 tie.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Soccer Falls 5-0 At GCU

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept

PHOENIX – The NM State women’s soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to Grand Canyon on Friday at GCU Stadium.

Early on in the first half, GCU kept attacking the Aggie defense and broke through in the 10th minute on the foot of Milla Benedetti – the GCU leader in points. The Lopes continued to pressure NM State and kept the defense on its heels the entire first half.

Grand Canyon added another goal in the 38th minute on a through ball into the box. The Aggies didn’t register its first shot of the game until the 37:27 mark when Audriana Chavez blasted a shot that was just wide of the far post. Reilly Marks gave New Mexico State its only other shot of the half in the 44th minute.

The Aggie defense was again faced with constant pressure from the GCU front line in the second half as the Lopes tacked on two goals by the 64th minute before adding another at the 76:19 mark.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

KANSAS CITY, MO - Despite being outshot 34-6 the entire game and 9-2 in overtime, the New Mexico State women’s soccer team was able to settle for a 1-1 draw against UMKC thanks to the stellar play of Ashley Martin and the Aggie defense.

The UMKC (4-7-3, 1-0-1 WAC) offense relentlessly attacked the NM State (4-9-1, 1-0-1 WAC) defense and tested Martin the entire first-half, outshooting the Aggies 14-3. In the 36th minute of the game, Gabby Campell’s shot was blocked by the Roos’ defense and led to their counter attack. Kelsey Mothershead took the first shot on the attack, but was denied by Martin. She then found herself in possession of the ball and connected with Ryann Burnett just to her right for the first goal of the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - With 88:19 left in regulation, Dominique Rivera booted the corner kick nearside for NM State as it sailed over every single player except freshman Tuti Tirado, who easily headed in the game-winner Friday afternoon. The goal lifted the Aggies past the Cougars, 2-1, minutes after the Chicago State knocked in the equalizer.

Late Rally Not Enough For NMSU Soccer In 3-2 Loss At Houston

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

HOUSTON, TX - A resilient New Mexico State women’s soccer team rallied down 3-0 in the first half, and brought it within 3-2 but fell short as time expired on Friday against Houston at the Carl Lewis Complex.

Another early goal given up by the Aggies (2-9-0) had them playing from behind just two minutes into the game against Houston (5-1-1). A few minutes later, the Cougars tacked on another goal, this time on a set piece from Desiree Bowen.

NM State defense looked as if it had settled down and found its focus as the Aggies rattled off four shots. However, Bowen was able to slip past the Aggie defense once again as Tiffani Echeverria found her on a through ball that found its way past Ashley Martin and was easily tapped in for her hat-trick with 44:06 on the clock in the first half.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Soccer Falls To Nevada 2-0

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s soccer team played well for most of the match on Sunday, but a pair of miscues saw them drop a 2-0 decision to visiting Nevada at the NM State Soccer Complex.

“We started the game a little bit slow, but for about 60-70 minutes we played very, very well,” head coach Freddy Delgado said. “Unfortunately we made two costly errors that got us the two goals. We created about four chances that we should’ve scored on. We score those and it’s a different game.”

Both teams looked evenly matched midway through the first half as both goalies directed their defense accordingly. However, a turnover by the Aggies in the 28th minute saw Nevada’s Aless Abbuhl take advantage of an errant NM State pass just outside the box and sailed it over Ashley Martin’s head for the first goal of the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls At Weber State

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

OGDEN, UT - A pair of goals early on in the game was too much to overcome for the New Mexico State women’s soccer team as it dropped a 2-1 decision to Weber State Friday afternoon at the Wildcat Soccer Field.

Freshman Valerie Maestas came out of the gates sprinting in her first-career start as an Aggie, firing in a shot on goal just 1:41 into the match. Unfortunately, the Wildcats countered immediately after and found the back on a chip shot by Morgan Quarnberg off the deflection from NM State’s starting keeper, Raeann Garcia.

Moments later after the reset, Weber State tacked on another goal at the 4:21 mark when Quarnberg found Madison Garlock on the breakaway pass across the box. Following the next stoppage, Ashley Martin replaced Garcia in the cage for NM State at the 7:29 mark.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls To Wyoming 4-1

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES,N.M. - The NM State women’s soccer team split its home-opening weekend at the Soccer Athletic Complex with a 4-1 loss to Wyoming on Sunday afternoon.

“When we are able to keep possession of the ball, pass the ball and just simple movement with the ball and everyone sharing the ball; that fires us up and gets us excited,” head coach Freddy Delgado said. “I thought we did that in the first half. In the second half, we again lost our focus. I think that to do with us being a little tired. We started a different line-up and we relied on some different we didn’t rely on in the past. As a result we couldn’t find that same tempo so I think that hurt us in the end.”  Continue Reading This Post >>
