Aggie Soccer Drops Season Opener At UTEP, 5-0

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State women’s soccer team did not get the result it wanted in its 2016 season opener Friday night at University Field, falling 5-0 to I-10 rival UTEP.

After a back-and-forth start with both attacking fronts getting good looks at the goal, the Miners were able convert on their second corner kick opportunity at the 14:30 mark on a header by Aleah Davis.

"I was proud of the way we played I the first half," Aggie head coach Freddy Delgado said. "In the second half, we allowed an early goal and our youth and inexperience showed through. We know what we're capable of and we're much better than what the scoreboard showed tonight."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer's Season Ends With 2-1 Loss To Bakersfield In WAC Tournament

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

BAKERSFIELD, CA - A late goal by Sabrina Ruiz with 34 seconds remaining in regulation on a set piece from Morgan Campbell was too little too late as the 2015 season came to an end for NM State in the Western Athletic Conference quarterfinals, a 2-1 loss to CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night at the Main Soccer Field.

“I’m proud of our team, not only for tonight but for the whole season,” Delgado said.

Ruiz’s goal was her fifth of the season, tying Aileen Galicia for the team lead in goals. Ruiz, however, leads the team in points with 13 (5g, 3a), one point ahead of Galicia.

“We absorbed a lot of pressure in the first half,” Delgado said. “It’s always difficult when you play the host team. Bakersfield came out with a ton of energy and emotion.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Shuts Out Chicago State 3-0

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

CHICAGO, IL - The NM State soccer team enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Chicago State Friday afternoon at Kroc Stadium to take the first of its two road matches this weekend.

“We played really well today,” head coach Freddy Delgado said. “It was a great team victory. Our starters played about 40 percent of the game and some players that haven’t had that much experience stepped up and did really well for us.”

Of the three goals on Friday, two of the three came from the bench – including five of the eight points NM State tallied.

Devin Hart got things going for the Aggies in the ninth minute when she raced down the field to beat Chicago State’s keeper to the ball and knocked in her third goal of the season on a pass from Sabrina Ruiz.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Shut Out At Seattle, 3-0

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

SEATTLE, WA - It was a tale of two halves for the New Mexico State women’s soccer team on Sunday at Championship Field against Seattle U as the Aggies fell to the Redhawks, 3-0, despite a solid performance in the second half.

“The thing was we played well in the first half,” said head coach Freddy Delgado. “Of the three goals they had, two were deflections and one was a penalty where we made a mistake.”

The Redhawks got on the board first when Karli White booted a penalty shot past Rian Nials in the 10th minute.

Rebecca Mazzie had a great look on goal at the 24:28 mark, but her strike was saved by SU’s Brianna Smallidge to keep NM State (3-12-0, 2-3-0 WAC) off the board. Shortly after, Seattle U’s Karli White netted her second goal of the day with 25:23 on the clock.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls To Bakersfield 2-1

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Aggies attacked the CSU Bakersfield goal relentlessly Friday afternoon, but only netted one score in falling to the Roadrunners 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference action at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.

The Aggies (2-9-0, 1-1-0) outshot the Runners (3-6-2, 1-0-1) 22-19 for the day, equaling season highs with those attempts and the 10 shots on goal.

"We created a lot of opportunities, but we're falling one step behind on the attacking side," said NM State Head Coach Freddy Delgado. "Honestly, we should have scored six-to-eight goals today. We had four balls that hit the post. Some say it's bad luck, but I think we need to take that extra piece of concentration and finish those goals. We can't give chances like that away."

The Aggies 10 shots on goal don't count the shots that ricocheted off the posts and crossbar.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Late Goal Gives Aggie Soocer 2-1 Victory Over UT Rio Grande Valley

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Devin Hart’s goal with two minutes to play gave the New Mexico State Aggies a 2-1 victory over the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to open Western Athletic Conference play Sunday at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.

While the Aggies (2-8, 1-0) held the lead for only the last two minutes, they attacked the Vaqueros (2-5-3, 0-1) relentlessly all afternoon.

“I thought we played really well,” said NM State Head Coach Freddy Delgado. “I thought the game was indicative of some of the games we’ve had in the past. We’ve played very, very well the last couple of games and hadn’t gotten the result. Today we got the result.”

Hart took a deflected through pass, made a cut past a defender and rifled a shot from 15-yards out past UTRGV goalkeeper Erica Gonzalez for the go ahead score.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX - The New Mexico State Aggies closed non-conference action Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 road loss to Prairie View A&M at Lady Panther Field.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the 18th minute when PVAMU's Ashley Virgil headed the ball in off a pass from Khalisha Bond for a 1-0 lead.

NM State provided an equalizer in the 33rd minute when Sabrina Ruiz scored from 15-yards out off a pass from from Audrey Chavez to even the score at 1-all. Ruiz collected her second goal of the season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls 2-0 At Texas State

Written By; NM State Athletic Dept.

SAN MARCOS, TX - The New Mexico State Aggies played a strong, physical game on Friday night at Bobcat Stadium, but Texas State scored twice in three minutes late in the contest for a 2-0 win.

The Aggies (1-7) held the Bobcats (5-2) scoreless through 76 minutes, before the home team broke the tie.

In the 77th minute, Texas State’s Rachel Grout got an opening from 15 yards out on a pass from Maddie Nichols to make it 1-0.

Almost exactly three minutes later, Clarissa Leon scored off a corner kick from Taylor Allen to give the Bobcats their second goal of the game.

“We had the run of play for the first 25 minutes of the second half,” said NM State Head Coach Freddy Delgado. “We just made two errors and that turned into two goals.”

She recorded 11 save, chalking up eight saves at the half.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls 3-1 To UTEP

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Aggies saw UTEP collect three goals in the last 24 minutes as the Miners upended the Aggies 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.

The Aggies (1-6) held control of the match for the first 60 minutes of play, but the Miners (4-3) started controlling possession, then began firing away.

The Miners collected goals off of three set pieces, a throw-in and two corner kicks, and handed the Aggies their sixth loss of the season.

“We didn’t have much effort in the second half,” said a disappointed NM State Head Coach Freddy Delgado. “We come so far and played some very good teams very hard and very aggressive, but I don’t know who came out the second half. That’s not what we’ve shown this year.”

The Aggies opened the match strong battling the more physical Miners evenly, then got the advantage on their own set piece.  Continue Reading This Post >>
