LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior forward Jennae Cambra scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season, however, the Aggie soccer team couldn’t overcome Seattle U’s fast start and dropped a 6-1 decision Friday afternoon.

“For the first five minutes we came out and went toe-to-toe with them,” NM State assistant coach Niki Brooks said. “Seattle U is a great team and they have great chemistry. I think the girls learned a lot from this game and we just need to continue to work hard and get ready for our next opponent.”

The Redhawks feature one of the top goal-scorers in the Western Athletic Conference in Stephanie Verdoia. The senior made her presence known early.

Aggie Soccer Defeats Chicago State 3-1

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Prior to the start of the season NM State head soccer coach Freddy Delgado said senior leadership was going to be key if the Aggies were to be successful in Western Athletic Conference play.

Sunday afternoon seniors Jennae Cambra and Layla Todd lived up to Delgado’s expectations and each scored goals in the first period en route to a 4-1 win over Chicago State.

“One of the most dynamic duos in the conference,” Delgado said. “Jennae has been the one getting a lot of the goals this year, but Layla has been working extremely hard. Teams have focused on her and left Jennae open. Today, they focused on Jennae and allowed Layla some opportunities.”

NM State struck at 3:05 in the first stanza when sophomore Gabby Campbell found Cambra in front Cougar box and she drilled it past the goalkeeper to give the Aggies an early lead.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Drops WAC Opener At UTPA 3-1

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

EDINBURG, TX - Katie Smith scored the first goal of the match, however, New Mexico State couldn’t halt a late Texas-Pan American offensive surge and dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday evening.

At 48:15 in the second half Smith scored off a rebound and fired it in the back of the net to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead.

However, the lead was brief. Hanna Spets scored two goals in the second period to lift the Broncs (7-1-3, 1-0-0 WAC).

“We made a couple mistakes and they capitalized,” NM State head coach Freddy Delgado said. “We were able to score the first goal, but we weren’t able to execute on offense.”

A key reason why the Aggies couldn’t sustain its offense was the field conditions. The game was delayed 30 minutes due to poor field conditions and standing water.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls To Houston Baptist 3-0

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State soccer fell 3-0 to Houston Baptist Friday, Aug. 29, at the NM State soccer complex.

NM State allowed two goals to slip by during the first half of the game.

During the final minutes of the first half, NM State tipped the ball into their own goal to bring the score to 2-0 for Houston Baptist. The final goal came in the beginning of the second half of the game, bringing the score to 3-0.

“We have been working with our backs and goalkeeper specifically for better organization, clearance and 50/50 balls. We’re plugging away but we have to make sure what we are instructing shows on the field,” Delgado said.  Continue Reading This Post >>
