Aggie Soccer Rallies With Three Late Goals To Stun Lamar 4-3

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Aggies grabbed their first victory of the season in an exciting fashion Sunday afternoon, scoring three goals in the final nine minutes to beat Lamar 4-3 at the Soccer Athletic Complex.

The Aggies (1-5) used strong second half offensive attack combined with a pressure defense to wear down the Cardinals (3-3) late.

“We got the monkey off our back,” said NM State head coach Freddy Delgado. “It feels great to get our first win of the season and especially in the way we did it.”

Trailing 3-1 late in the second half, the Aggies used continual defensive pressure to force the Cards to give NM State control in the attacking end.

The Aggies broke through in the 82nd minute to start the barrage when freshman Aileen Galicia of Indio, Calif./LaQuinta got a through ball pass from freshman Sabrina Ruiz of Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia to score her second goal of the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls To Weber State, 3-1

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Aggies played 70 strong minutes on Friday, but Weber State took advantage of some Aggie errors to grab a 3-1 victory in non-conference play at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex.

"We lost our focus for about 20 minutes in the game and it cost us," said NM State soccer coach Freddy Delgado. "We played well for 70 minutes and our attacking was fluid. We just have to find a way to play well for 90 minutes."

The Wildcats (3-2) grabbed the advantage with two goals less than 30 minutes in the game.

Weber State's Mackenzie Harrison got a strong feed from Madison Garlock and Stacy Blair for the contest's first goal in the 27th minute.

A little more than a minute later, it was Garlock who quickly gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead on a quick cross from Joanna Matyjasik to score.

The Aggies regrouped and got an answering goal a short time later.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls 3-0 At Idaho

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

MOSCOW, ID - The New Mexico State women’s soccer team fell at the hands of Idaho 3-0 on Friday at Guy Wicks Stadium.

The Aggies, who were traveling for the first time this season, started the match a little sluggish, allowing two first-half goals to the Vandals to fall behind early. The young NM State squad showed signs of young it is and could never recover from the two-goal deficit.

“Tonight’s game was two completely different halves,” Aggie head coach Freddy Delgado said. “It took us a half to get used to the physicality, speed and direction of the game. I expected games like this early in the season because we are a young team.”

NM State was outshot 25-9, but seven of those nine shots were on goal. Freshmen Audrey Chavez and Aileen Galicia both came off the bench and had some good production on the pitch as Chavez finished with three shots on goal while Galicia added a couple more.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s soccer team fell to I-25 rival New Mexico, 0-1, on Wednesday at the NM State Soccer Athletic Complex in front of what was the largest crowd to ever witness an Aggie soccer match in Las Cruces, over 2,000 fans.
