Aggies Fall At Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TX - In its final non-conference tune-up, the New Mexico State soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss at Texas Tech.

The Aggies fell behind early after a pair of Texas Tech goals in the first 35 minutes of action. NM State attempted to respond, and the team recorded four shots and three corner kicks in the first half.

In the second period, the Aggies started with a quick pair of shots within the first few minutes of the half but couldn't convert. The Red Raiders added three goals late in the second half to extend their lead to 5-0.

Senior midfielder Elise Nordin guided the Aggies with three shots on goal, while junior goalkeeper Mikaela Bitner had four saves in 90 minutes.

The Aggies return home and open WAC play, when they host Utah State, Friday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. and San Jose State, Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.

Aggies Fall To New Mexico In Double Overtime

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - In another defensive strong hold, the New Mexico State soccer team fell to in-state rival New Mexico, 1-0, in the final minutes of double overtime.

The rivalry match was the second consecutive double overtime game and the fourth extra time contest for the Aggies (1-6-2) in 2012.

Junior goalkeeper Mikaela Bitner anchored the Aggie defense with a game-high eight saves. Senior defender Courtney Irwin, junior midfielder/defender Olivia Sierra and freshman defender Mikaela Bitner assisted with the defensive effort and played all 108 minutes.

Aggies And Grizzlies Battle To A 0-0 Tie

MISSOULA, MT - The New Mexico State soccer team played to a 0-0 double overtime draw at Montana (4-4-1). It was the third extra time match of the season for the Aggies (1-5-2).

The NM State defense was relentless with junior goalkeeper Mikaela Bitner grabbing a career-high 12 saves in her second shutout of the year. Senior defender Courtney Irwin and freshman defender Mikaela Haley helped the effort and played all 110 minutes along with Bitner.

"Courtney Irwin and Mikaela Bitner were unbelievable for us," head coach Blair Quinn said.

The Aggie offense started strong with three shots in the first 22 minutes of action, but both defenses controlled the contest for a 0-0 halftime score. The second half was a defensive struggle as well, and Bitner helped force overtime with a pair of saves in the final minute of regulation. Aggies Edged 2-1 In Battle Of I-10

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In a fiercely contested I-10 rivalry match, the New Mexico State soccer team fell to UTEP, 2-1.

"That was a great game," head coach Blair Quinn said. "That was absolutely our best game of the year, and it's unfortunate for the kids it was a loss in the end. It was a great, great effort and really well-played game. It wasn't just the effort, we played really good soccer."

The Aggies (1-5-1) controlled the tempo for the majority of the match and posted 12 shots in the contest. Sophomore forward Jennae Cambra, senior midfielder Elise Nordin and junior midfielder Daisy Hernandez each contributed to the offense with two shots. Defensively, NM State only allowed two shots in the first half, and junior goalkeeper Mikaela Bitner, who entered the game in the second half, grabbed a match-high five saves.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall 4-1 To Weber State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State soccer team faltered in the second match of the home opening weekend with a 4-1 loss to Weber State.

After an early Wildcat goal in the seventh minute, the Aggies kept applying pressure and knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 41st minute of action.

On a free kick from 30 yards away, junior midfielder Mary Kate Koziol found sophomore forward Layla Todd in front of the net. Both the score and assist were second of the season for Todd and Koziol, respectively, which are also team-high marks.

Before the break, Weber State responded with a goal for a 2-1 halftime advantage, and the Wildcats added two second-half goals.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Soccer Falls 1-0 In Overtime To Sam Houston State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In the home opener, the New Mexico State soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Sam Houston State in overtime.

At halftime, the Aggies (1-3-1) and Bearkats (3-4-0) were tied at 0-0. NM State had a 4-2 advantage in shot attempted, and sophomore midfielder Katie Smith led the way with two shots on goal.

Despite the Kats having a slight edge in shots, 9-6, in the second half, Smith fired a shot with less than three minutes in regulation that danced around the goal before freshman goalkeeper Kylie Hambleton grabbed it before it crossed the line.

For the second time in three matches for the Aggies, the game was scoreless after 90 minutes of action. In extra time, SHSU junior midfielder Tricia Mallory ended the game with a goal in the 95th minute.

The Aggies continue their home opening weekend, Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m., when they host Weber State.

Aggies Defeat Southern Utah 1-0

RIVERSIDE, CA - The New Mexico State soccer team won its first game of the season with a 1-0 decision over Southern Utah in its second match of the UC Riverside Tournament in Riverside, Calif.

Sophomore forward Katelyn Smith scored her first career goal en route to the victory for the Aggies (1-2-1). For the third time of the season, the Aggie offense fired 14 shots, which is a season-high mark.

Todd Scores Late Goal; Aggies Tie UC Riverside 1-1

RIVERSIDE, CA - In the first overtime match of the season, the New Mexico State soccer team tied UC Riverside, 1-1, in a double overtime contest.

Sophomore forward Layla Todd scored the first goal of the season for the Aggies (0-2-1) in their first match of the UC Riverside Tournament. NM State posted a season-high eight shots on goal and tied a season high with 14 shots in the 110 minutes of action.

"I thought we played really well," head coach Blair Quinn said. "It's a well organized team and they were playing at home.

"I was very proud of the girls not just for the effort but also the style of play. They played like we have been training them the last few weeks, and it was the first time it showed up."

Aggies Fall 2-0 To Idaho State

BOISE, ID - The New Mexico State soccer team fell to Idaho State, 2-0, in its second match of the Holiday Inn Classic in Boise, Idaho.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Smith and junior midfielder Mary Kate Koziol posted a game-high four shots for the Aggie offense. Senior midfielder Lauren Cope also contributed three shots. The Aggies had a 14-9 advantage in shots in the contest but couldn't convert.

After a scoreless first half for the second consecutive match, Idaho State scored first in the 55th minute and then added another goal at the 63rd-minute mark.

"The effort was there but the decision-making was incredibility poor. We took two huge steps backwards from where we were on Friday," head coach Blair Quinn said. "We abandoned all dangerous thought and just became a very one-dimensional team. BOISE, ID - The New Mexico State soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Boise State to open the 2012 season in the first match of the Holiday Inn Classic in Boise, Idaho.

At halftime, the match was tied at 0-0. Both teams had seven shots after 45 minutes of action, but the Aggies had a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore midfielder Katie Smith led the NM State offense with three shots in the first half.

"It was a really good game," head coach Blair Quinn. "It was good to open up against a team like that. They are a little more seasoned than we are.
