Aggies Wrap Up Spring Football

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team held its Spring Game at Aggie Memorial Stadium, Saturday, April 25 with the White (offense) defeating the Crimson (defense) 42-40.

The Aggie offense scored six touchdowns with six PAT’s for 42 points while the NM State defense played well scoring 40 points using the suggested scoring system. The defense had chances to score six points on a turnover, three points while holding the offense to a 3-and-out, and one point for every tackle for loss of yardage. The defense tallied 15 points for five 3-and-out situations, 18 points via three turnovers and seven points on tackles for loss.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Closes Season With 68-35 Loss At Arkansas State

JONESBORO, AR - Freshman running back Larry Rose III became the first freshman since 1995 to run for over 1,000 yards in a season after posting 137 yards in a 68-35 loss to Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark., Saturday, Nov. 29 in Jonesboro, Ark.

The New Mexico State football team ends the season 2-10 overall and 1-7 in Sun Belt Conference play while the Red Wolves improve to 7-5 on the year and 5-3 in league play and are now bowl eligible.

Rose III accomplished what legendary running back Denvis Manns accomplished in 1995, rushing for more than 1,000 yard as a true freshman. Rose III posted 1,102 yards on the year averaging 5.9 yards per rush. He was the first Aggie rusher to go for over 200 yards in a game since 2003 as he rushed for 229 yards against Louisiana-Monroe last week.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Loses Home Finale To UL Monroe, 30-17

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Freshman running back Larry Rose III ran for 229 yards, etching his name in the New Mexico State record book Saturday, Nov. 22, in a 30-17 loss to Louisiana Monroe in the Aggies’ final home game of the season.

NM State is now 2-9 on the season and 1-6 in Sun Belt play, while ULM moved to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the SBC.

Rose is now No. 5 all time for single game rushing attempts with 35 carries and No. 7 all time for single game performances with his 229 yards. The last time an Aggie ran for over 200 yards was in 2003, when Eric Higgins recorded 218 yards; coincidentally against the Warhawks.

“When you [Rose] are up over six yards a carry you are doing some special things. He is going to be a special player and grew up a bit today too,” said Aggie head coach Doug Martin. “He battled through a couple bruises and he is going to be a special player here for a long time.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall To Louisiana 44-16

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State drew first blood, but Sun Belt Conference title contender Louisiana countered with the next 28 points as the Ragin’ Cajuns handed the Aggies a 44-16 loss Saturday night at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

NM State (2-8, 1-5 Sun Belt Conference) dropped its eighth straight, while Louisiana (6-3, 5-0) won its fifth straight.

Aggie quarterback Tyler Rogers finished the night with 204 yards and one touchdown on 19-of-34 passing. Teldrick Morgan led all receivers with 117 yards and a touchdown on eight catches.

Morgan also recorded a career-high 56-yard punt return in the fourth quarter, the longest punt return for NM State on the season. Xavier Hall recorded 47 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown for the Aggies on the ground.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Falls To Texas State 37-29

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Despite a pair of career-highs, the New Mexico State University Aggies dropped their seventh straight game Saturday, falling to the Texas State Bobcats 37-29 at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

NM State running back Larry Rose III set a new career high in rushing yards, carrying the ball for 181 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown. Aggie quarterback Tyler Rogers went 36-for-52 for 404 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Jerrel Brown had a season high 139 yards on seven receptions and one touchdown. Aggie Football Falls To Vandals 29-17

MOSCOW, ID - The New Mexico State football team fell 29-17 to Idaho in Sun Belt Conference action Saturday, Oct. 18 in the Kibbie Dome, falling to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in league play. The Vandals picked up their first win of the year and are now 1-6 and 1-4 in SBC play.

Once again turnovers play a role in the outcome of the game for the Aggies with NM State throwing three interceptions and losing one fumble. Freshman quarterback Andrew Allen got his first career start and ended the game going 6-of-11 passing for 88 yards and one interception. Tyler Rogers, who made an appearance late in the game, recorded 3-of-5 passing for 12 yards and two interceptions.

The Vandals recorded two turnovers to the Aggies four. More importantly, Idaho scored 16 points off turnovers, missing a two point conversion on one score. The Aggies scored three points off the Vandal interception.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Falls At Troy 41-24

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team lost 41-24 to Troy in Sun Belt Conference action, Saturday, Oct. 11 in Troy, Ala., falling 2-5 on the year and 1-3 in league play. The Troy Trojans are now 1-5 overall and 1-1 in SBC action.

NM State’s first score of the game came off a 53-yard run by freshman running back Larry Rose III. The run was the longest of Rose’s career. Aggies Fall To Georgia Southern 36-28

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Sun Belt Conference, Saturday, Oct. 4, after losing 36-28 to conference opponent Georgia Southern at Aggie Memorial Stadium in the Tough Enough to Wear Pink game.

Tyler Rogers recorded 329 yards through the air on 34-of-48 passing with three interceptions. Rogers also had a productive night on the ground, going for 49 yards on ten attempts. Brandon Betancourt led the Aggies with 65 yards on the ground on 11 carries, recording two touchdowns.

Larry Rose III and Xavier Hall had a combine 65 yards rushing and a touchdown each. Teldrick Morgan led all receivers with 100 yards on ten catches. Joshua Bowen added 92-yards and Jerrel Brown had 73-yards as well.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Football Falls 63-7 At No. 17/18 LSU

BATON ROUGE, LA - The New Mexico State football team had four takeaways in the first half, but No. 17/18 LSU overcame the turnovers and defeated the Aggies 63-7 in front of 101,987 fans in Tiger Stadium, Saturday, Sept. 27. NM State falls to 2-3 on the year and the Tigers move to 4-1 overall.

Sophomore defensive back Kawe Johnson led the Aggies defense with 12 tackles, three of them solo, to go along with two forced fumbles and an interception. It was the second straight game that Johnson has tallied at least 12 tackles and the third time this season that he has posted double-digit tackles. Senior defensive back Winston Rose pulled in his second interception of the year. LSU came into the game with four turnovers on the season and the Aggie defense doubled that, grabbing two interceptions and picking up two fumbles.  Continue Reading This Post >>
