Aggies Fall To No. 13 Ole Miss 52-3

OXFORD, MS - The NM State football team collected three turnovers compared to Ole Miss’ two as the Aggies fell 52-3 to the No. 13 Rebels on Saturday afternoon in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

The Aggies (0-5) had two fumble recoveries on Ole Miss (5-1) punt returns. In the second quarter, a Rebel touched the ball following a NM State punt, and long snapper Andrew Kenney grabbed his first career fumble recovery. On an Ole Miss punt return in the third quarter, Carlos Davis fumbled the ball and Jacob Nwangwa recovered for the Aggies.

Terrill Hanks also grabbed his second career interception in the second quarter as he stepped in front of Chad Kelly’s pass. Hanks returned the ball seven yards to the NM State 26 for the visiting team.

Xavier Hall led the Aggie rushing efforts as he gained 31 yards on nine carries. Teldrick Morgan led the receiving corps with 33 yards on five catches.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall To New Mexico 38-29

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Larry Rose III had a career-high 260 rushing yards as the NM State football team fell 38-29 to Rio Grande rival New Mexico at University Stadium on Saturday night.

Rose III used 21 carries to garner 260 of the Aggies’ (0-4) 303 rushing yards. He had a long rush of 67 yards and averaged 12.4 yards per carry. Additionally, the sophomore scored a career-high three touchdowns.

Tyler Rogers chipped in 41 rushing yards on 11 carries. Rogers also completed 12 of his 24 pass attempts for 108 yards. Tyrian Taylor caught three of these throws for 44 yards.

Derek Ibekwe led the NM State defensive efforts with 13 tackles, which included 10 unassisted tackles. He also racked up two tackles for loss. Terrill Hanks collected nine tackles with one tackle for loss and his first career interception.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Falls In Overtime To UTEP, 50-47

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In a game that saw 97 points and over 1,000 yards of total offense, the NM State football team dropped a heartbreaking 50-47 overtime loss to Battle of I-10 rival UTEP on Saturday night in Aggie Memorial Stadium.

UTEP (1-2) won the coin toss in overtime and chose to defend the first possession. After Larry Rose III rushed for nine yards, Parker Davidson made a 44-yard field goal to give NM State (0-3) a 47-44 advantage. On their drive, Miner quarterback Ryan Metz completed a six-yard pass to Cedrick Lang to give the visitors a 50-47 win.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Falls 34-32 To Georgia State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Tyrain Taylor had a career-high 206 receiving yards and two touchdowns as the NM State football team fell 34-32 to Georgia State on Saturday night in front of 27,201 fans.

The crowd is the largest to ever witness a Sun Belt Conference game in Aggie Memorial Stadium. The previous attendance record was 20,323 against Idaho on Oct. 13, 2001.

With his 206 yards, which came on just 10 catches, Taylor lands at No. 6 in the Aggies’ (0-2) all-time single game receiving yards. Taylor also racked up a career-high two touchdowns on the night.

Tyler Rogers completed 31-of-55 passes to rack up three touchdowns and a career-high 445 yards, while Larry Rose III led NM State on the ground with 75 yards on 18 carries.

Defensively, Jaden Wright led NM State with 12 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown. Rodney Butler chipped in 10 tackles and a sack.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall At Florida In Season Opener

GAINESVILLE, FL - Larry Rose III had a game-high 64 rushing yards as the NM State football team fell 61-13 to Florida on a muggy Saturday night in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Tyler Rogers completed 14-of-27 passes for 128 yards to lead the Aggies (0-1). Teldrick Morgan and Greg Hogan each had three receptions on the night for 38 and 17 yards, respectively. Morgan also added a rush of eight yards.

Terrill Hanks led the NM State defense with seven tackles, one sack and a forced fumble. Jacob Nwangwa garnered seven tackles as well, while Rodney Butler, Jaden Wright and Lewis Hill each chipped in six tackles.

Treon Harris led the Gators (1-0) as he completed 14 of his 19 pass attempts for 215 yards. Alex Anzalone had a team-high five tackles for Florida.

The Gators scored first as Harris connected with Brandon Powell for a 37-yard touchdown pass with 8:21 left in the first quarter.   Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Wrap Up Spring Football

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team held its Spring Game at Aggie Memorial Stadium, Saturday, April 25 with the White (offense) defeating the Crimson (defense) 42-40.

The Aggie offense scored six touchdowns with six PAT’s for 42 points while the NM State defense played well scoring 40 points using the suggested scoring system. The defense had chances to score six points on a turnover, three points while holding the offense to a 3-and-out, and one point for every tackle for loss of yardage. The defense tallied 15 points for five 3-and-out situations, 18 points via three turnovers and seven points on tackles for loss.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Closes Season With 68-35 Loss At Arkansas State

JONESBORO, AR - Freshman running back Larry Rose III became the first freshman since 1995 to run for over 1,000 yards in a season after posting 137 yards in a 68-35 loss to Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark., Saturday, Nov. 29 in Jonesboro, Ark.

The New Mexico State football team ends the season 2-10 overall and 1-7 in Sun Belt Conference play while the Red Wolves improve to 7-5 on the year and 5-3 in league play and are now bowl eligible.

Rose III accomplished what legendary running back Denvis Manns accomplished in 1995, rushing for more than 1,000 yard as a true freshman. Rose III posted 1,102 yards on the year averaging 5.9 yards per rush. He was the first Aggie rusher to go for over 200 yards in a game since 2003 as he rushed for 229 yards against Louisiana-Monroe last week.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Loses Home Finale To UL Monroe, 30-17

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Freshman running back Larry Rose III ran for 229 yards, etching his name in the New Mexico State record book Saturday, Nov. 22, in a 30-17 loss to Louisiana Monroe in the Aggies’ final home game of the season.

NM State is now 2-9 on the season and 1-6 in Sun Belt play, while ULM moved to 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the SBC.

Rose is now No. 5 all time for single game rushing attempts with 35 carries and No. 7 all time for single game performances with his 229 yards. The last time an Aggie ran for over 200 yards was in 2003, when Eric Higgins recorded 218 yards; coincidentally against the Warhawks.

“When you [Rose] are up over six yards a carry you are doing some special things. He is going to be a special player and grew up a bit today too,” said Aggie head coach Doug Martin. “He battled through a couple bruises and he is going to be a special player here for a long time.”  Continue Reading This Post >>
