Utah State Stuns New Mexico State 24-21 In Season Finale

The Aggie football season came to a close on Saturday with a 24-21 loss to Utah State as the northern Aggies rallied in the final five minutes for a game-winning touchdown. New Mexico State had taken a 21-17 lead with 8:29 left to play when Kenny Turner plunged ahead three yards into the endzone capping a three-play drive that covered 66 yards in just 1:13.

After forcing a Utah State punt on the ensuing possession, the Aggies took over with 6:49 left on the clock at their own 25 yard line. The Aggies ran five plays, four of them passes, and were unable to melt much time off the clock giving the ball back to Utah State with 5:04 left to play.

Utah State would drive 83 yards on 13 plays converting a crucial fourth-and-one play from the Aggies' 14 yard line with less than a minute remaining. Two plays later USU would score the go-ahead touchdown on an eight yard pass from Adam Kennedy to Matt Austin.

The Aggies would get the ball back on the kickoff with 35 seconds left but senior quarterback Matt Christian would have his pass intercepted at the Utah State 30 yard line on the first play of the series, ending the Aggies' hopes for a comeback.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Football Falls At LA Tech

RUSTON, LA - The New Mexico State football team, (4-8, 2-4) fell to Louisiana Tech (8-4, 6-1) 44-0 in Ruston, La., Saturday afternoon.

Kenny Turner led the Aggies will 149 yards rushing on 29 carries. It was Turner’s sixth 100-yard game of the season. Travaughn Colwell threw for 119 yards on 15-of-25 passing. Taveon Rogers caught five passes for 56 yards. Donyae Coleman led the Aggie defense with eight tackles and his sixth interception of the season.

The Bulldogs took the opening drive of the second half right down the field and pushed their lead to 30-0 with 11:47 left in the third quarter. The Aggies would then turn the ball over on downs to give LA Tech the all with 8:35 to go in the third.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall 42-7 At BYU

PROVO, UT - The New Mexico State football team fell 42-7 to BYU at the Cougars' LaVell Edwards Stadium Saturday night.

Freshman wide receiver Austin Franklin caught a career-high eight receptions for 66 yards and his third career touchdown to lead the Aggie receiving corps. Junior running back Kenny Turner finished with 61 yards rushing on 16 carries. Senior quarterback Matt Christian played just shy of three quarters for the Aggies before leaving the game. Christian finished with 98 yards on 12-of-23 passing with a touchdown and an interception. Freshman Travaughn Colwell took over for the Aggies and went 7-for-11 on the night for 61 yards the rest of the way.

Linebackers Bryan Bonilla and Boyblue Aoelua led the Aggies with eight tackles apiece on defense.

Aggie Football Outguns Fresno State 48-45

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team defeated Fresno State for the first time in school history, 48-45, Saturday night at Aggie Memorial Stadium, behind Taveon Rogers' school record breaking 412 all-purpose yards. The Aggies move to 4-6 on the season and 2-3 in the WAC, while Fresno State falls to 3-7 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.

Senior quarterback Matt Christian threw for 360 yards and two touchdowns in the game, while Rogers caught a career-high 10 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Rogers also broke the school record for kickoff returns for a touchdown. Running back Kenny Turner recorded his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season with 112 yards on 27 carries, while also recording a career-high three rushing touchdowns. As a team, the Aggies totaled 500 yards of offense. Safety Justin Smith tallied a career-high 13 tackles to lead the defense in his first career start.

Fresno State took its opening kickoff of the second half and marched 76 yards in five plays to take a 24-23 lead with 12:28 remaining in the third quarter. The Aggies would have to punt in their first possession of the second half. The Bulldogs then struck quick with a 59-yard touchdown pass to give Fresno State a 31-23 lead with 10:34 left in the third.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Lose 63-16 At No. 18 Georgia

ATHENS, GA. - The New Mexico State football team stepped out of conference Saturday afternoon and fell to No. 18 Georgia 63-16 at the Bulldogs’ Sanford Stadium.

Junior running back Kenny Turner led the Aggie offense on the day, scoring two touchdowns and set career receiving numbers. Turner led the NM State receiving corps as well with a career-high 127 yards on eight receptions, also a career mark. He rushed for 94 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Aggies Fall 48-34 To Nevada

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team had career nights from three Aggies on senior night but fell to Nevada, 48-34.

Senior quarterback Matt Christian threw for a career-high 432 yards and three touchdowns. It was his first 400-yard passing game of his career. Senior wide receiver Taveon Rogers was one of Christian's favorite targets and grabbed a career-high 203 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Rogers leads NM State with eight touchdown receptions this season.

Senior safety Donyae Coleman led the Aggie defensive with a career-high 24 tackles and a forced fumble. NM State moved to 3-5 and 1-3 in the WAC, while the Wolf Pack is now 5-3 and 3-0.

On the opening drive of the game, the Aggies marched down the field in 12-plays and 78-yards to take a 6-0 lead. Christian capped the drive with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Rogers. The Aggies missed the extra point.

Near the end of the first quarter, Nevada scored to take its first lead of the game, 7-6, when sophomore running back Stephfon Jefferson skirted the sideline for a 26-yard touchdown.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall 45-34 At Hawai'i

HONOLULU, HI - The New Mexico State football team dropped its second game of the conference season at Hawai'I 45-34 at Aloha Stadium Saturday night.

The Aggies drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Hawai'i improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the WAC with the win.

The Aggies were led by junior running back Kenny Turner with 119 yards on the ground on 17 carries including a 46-yard touchdown run. It marked the fourth straight game that Turner eclipsed 100 rushing yards this season. Turner also led the Aggies in catches with seven for 61 yards.  Continue Reading This Post >>
