NMSU Women's Basketball Takes Round One In Battle Of I-10

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team raced out to an early lead against UTEP before making clutch shots down the stretch to win its second-straight Battle of I-10 in El Paso, 69-65, on Saturday afternoon. NM State won last year’s meeting 76-68, also in the Sun City.

Although UTEP would get the scoring going with a three at seventh minute mark of the first quarter, the quarter was all Aggies from there. NM State got a three from Brooke Salas to get on the scoreboard before scoring 12 straight points to take a 15-3 lead with 1:56 to go . UTEP then scored two free throws before Salas capped an 18-3 run with a three with 1:15 until the end of the first.

The Miners nailed a three with 17 seconds to play in the period for an 18-8 NM State lead at the intermission. The Aggie defense held UTEP to just 2-13 shooting in the quarter while shooting 50% (7-14).  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Opens Season With 70-38 Win Over UT Permian Basin

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's basketball team cruised to a 70-38 victory over UT Permian Basin behind an outstanding defensive performance in Tuesday night's season-opener.

"I thought we really brought it on the defensive end tonight," said head coach Brooke Atkinson. "I liked our energy on that end of the floor. I thought we did really good job challenging them on that end of the floor. NMSU Women's Basketball Falls To Seattle In WAC Tournament Semifinals

LAS VEGAS, NV - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team took on Seattle U in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday at Orleans Arena. NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats UTRGV, Claims Fourth Straight WAC Regular Season Title

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team hosted UT Rio Grande Valley at the Pan American Center for Senior Night in the regular season finale on Saturday. After outscoring the Vaqueros 48-31 in the second half, the Aggies earned a 72-56 victory that won the team a record fourth straight Western Athletic Conference regular-season title.

Following the monumental win head coach Brooke Atkinson said, “Coach Trakh and his staff did a great job putting quality pieces into this program that began a championship tradition. NMSU Women's Basketball Downs UMKC

KANSAS CITY, MO - The New Mexico State women's basketball team played its final road game of the regular season against UMKC at the Swinney Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies had a flurry of scoring which featured five players finishing with double-digits to lead NM State to a 76-67 victory.

In a game full of lead changes, NM State (16-11, 10-3 WAC) looked to strong play in the paint where they outscored UMKC (10-18, 6-7 WAC) 34-14 and added seven blocks compared to zero for the Roos to spur the team to victory.

The game opened with Kansas City winning the opening tip and putting NM State in a quick 5-1 hole. The first lead change of the game came just 50 seconds later when a 6-0 run gave the Aggies a 7-5 edge.

A closely contested remainder of the first quarter saw the teams trade baskets with NM State leading by just one, 14-13, through 10 minutes of action.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Downs Seattle 64-53

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team played host to Western Athletic Conference foe Seattle University on Sunday afternoon in the Pan American Center. For the second straight game Gia Pack recorded a double-double and the Aggies used an early third quarter run to build a lead that could not be overcome as they took down the Redhawks 64-53.

After the win split the regular-season series with the Redhawks head coach Brooke Atkinson commented, “The kids were really locked in and I think over the years in the WAC that Seattle has been one of their tougher opponents. NMSU Women's Basketball Beats Utah Valley 59-51

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team played host to Western Athletic Conference foe Utah Valley on Thursday night at the Pan American Center. An early run in the third quarter, followed by stout defense to close out the game led the Aggies to a 59-51 victory over the Wolverines.

Following the victory to end a two-game skid head coach Brooke Atkinson said “Getting back to being us by sharing the basketball, playing with energy and playing strong on the defensive end really spurred us. The ability to rebound and push also really helped and that is when we are at our best.”

The contest started slow with each team only putting up eight points at the media timeout 6:05 into the first quarter. Following the stoppage NM State (13-11, 7-3 WAC) was able to knock down back-to-back three-pointer to grab a 13-10 advantage over Utah Valley (12-15, 4-6 WAC) through 10 minutes of play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Falls 50-34 At GCU

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team closed out a three-game road swing in Phoenix, Ariz. against Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon at GCU Arena on Saturday. A tough game shooting plagued the Aggies and they fell to the Lopes, 50-34.

Shooting looked to be the kryptonite of each team as the game opened. The first basket came 1:37 into the contest when Gia Pack knocked down a jumper for NM State (RECORD). Grand Canyon (RECORD) proceeded to go on a 7-2 run for the first lead change of the contest.

Through the first 10 minutes of action, the Aggies trailed the Lopes 12-8. The GCU lead came off a pair of made three-pointers, the only two of the opening quarter.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Wins Thriller At UTRVG

EDINBURG, TX - New Mexico State women’s basketball traveled to the Lone Star State to take on Western Athletic Conference foe UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday evening at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. A deep three from Zaire Williams tied the contest up with 12 seconds left in regulation and the guard then knocked down two free throws in the waning seconds of overtime to take down UTRGV, 79-77.

Despite winning the opening tip and pressuring UTRGV (11-11, 1-6 WAC), the NM State (12-9, 6-1 WAC) squad went down early due to three turnovers and a quick foul. However, the Aggies quickly found their stride for an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the contest, 8-3, at the 4:58 mark.  Continue Reading This Post >>
