NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats CSU Bakersfield 61-48

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team rode a strong defensive performance to its 19th-straight Western Athletic Conference home win, and seventh-straight victory overall, 61-48 over CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night at the Pan American Center.

The ‘Runners flexed their defensive prowess early, racing out to an early 5-0 lead. However, buckets from Adenike Aderinto and Gia Pack brought the Aggies within one at 5-4 with 6:08 in the first. Both defenses continued to play well and NM State trailed 20-8 going into the second quarter of action. NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats Chicago State 87-66

CHICAGO, IL - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team took down Chicago State in the Windy City, 87-66, to win its sixth-straight game and remain in first-place in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

The Aggies (15-6, 7-1 WAC) raced out to an early 11-1 lead before the Cougars made it a six point game at 13-7. Monique Mills then drilled a three followed by a three-point play from Gia Pack for a 19-7 NM State lead with 2:35 remaining in the period. New Mexico State then got a step-back jumper from Stabresa McDaniel before a Cougar layup made it 22-13 NM State after one.

NM State then went on a 14-8 run to build a 36-21 lead with just over three minutes to play in the half. After Chicago State brought the game within 10 points at 38-28, Monique Mills hit back-to-back threes as the Aggies took a 44-30 lead into the halftime break.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats UMKC 90-86

KANSAS CITY, MO - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team took down Kansas City 90-86 at the Swinney Recreation Center on Thursday night to claim sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference.

Kansas City opened the game on a 10-3 run with the Aggies only points in that stretch coming on a three from Monique Mills. After the Roos pushed their lead to 16-9, NM State responded with a 9-2 run to the end quarter trailing by just one at 18-17.

New Mexico State carried its run into the second quarter, with Gia Pack making a three just 10 seconds into the period followed by a jumper from Dominique Mills to take a 22-18 lead. From there, Monique Mills and Aaliyah Prince made back-to-back threes followed by an Aggie steal and a three-point play from Pack for the 31-20 lead with 6:50 in the second. NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats UTRGV 71-63

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team won its 18th-straight Western Athletic Conference home game, 71-63, over UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday afternoon from the Pan American Center.

The Aggies established strong defense from the get-go, opening the game on a 12-0 run and not allowing UTRGV to score until the 3:52 mark in the first. NM State forced turnovers on the Vaqueros first five possessions. However, UT Rio Grande Valley made two three pointers and cut the NM State lead to 16-8 at the end of the first. New Mexico State forced 10 turnovers in the period.

The Vaqueros then further cut the Aggies’ lead to six after a pair of free throws to start the second quarter before Brooke Salas hit a jumper and Gia Pack made two threes and a lay in to extend the lead to 26-11 and force a Vaquero timeout with 7:11 in the half.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team used a strong second half to take care of Seattle U in Western Athletic Conference play 75-55 at the Pan American Center Thursday night.

The first quarter was back-and–forth with each side trading buckets. NM State (11-6, 3-1 WAC) took a 12-9 lead coming out of the media timeout with 4:57 on the clock thanks to 10 early points from Brooke Salas. However, the Redhawks (0-17, 0-4) got hot from three and the Aggies trailed 21-18 with 1:25 in the quarter after three-straight threes from Seattle U. BAKERSFIELD, CA - With the Aggies inbounding and the game tied at 59 with just two seconds remaining, everybody in the Icardo Center knew reigning, and preseason, Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year Brooke Salas was getting the ball. NMSU Women's Basketball Falls at Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State women’s basketball fell 54-51 in a tightly contested game against Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon at GCU arena on Thursday night.

Both sides started the game playing lock-down defense with GCU (4-9, 2-1 WAC) holding a 12-10 lead at the media timeout with 3:20 in the first. Aaliyah Prince then hit a jumper for the Aggies (9-6, 1-1) out of the timeout to cut Grand Canyon’s lead back to two. NMSU Women's Basketball Opens WAC Play With 76-69 Win Over Cal Baptist

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team opened its quest for a fifth-straight Western Athletic Conference championship with its 15th-straight conference home win, a 76-69 decision over conference-newcomer California Baptist at the Pan American Center Thursday night.

The two sides started the game going back-and-forth with the Aggies (9-5, 1-0 WAC) holding a 9-8 advantage at the first media timeout. After California Baptist (6-7, 0-1) again pulled within one at 11-10 with 3:56 in the first, NM State finished the final 2:17 of the first with a 15-5 run. NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats UC Santa Barbara 81-73

SANTA BARBARA, CA - The New Mexico State women’s basketball team took care of business in its final non-conference game, 81-73, on the road against UC Santa Barbara at the Thunderdome on Sunday afternoon.

The first three minutes of game time were the Gia Pack show as the junior from Phoenix scored 10 points including two three-pointers for a 12-5 Aggie (8-5) lead. After UCSB (3-10) cut the lead to one at 14-13, Pam Wilmore, in her first game back from injury, made a finger roll followed by free throws from Aaliyah Prince and Dominique Mills pushed the NM State lead to 19-13.
