NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats Chicago State 65-54

CHICAGO, IL - The New Mexico State Aggies (16-6, 8-0) women’s basketball team squared off against the Chicago State Cougars (0-22, 0-8) on Saturday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago, Ill. NM State took over in the fourth quarter to defeat CSU, 65-54, and sweep the season series.

After the tight contest, head coach Mark Trakh commented, “We played a well-coached team to the end. This was a close game and I’m happy walking away with a win after a tough 40 minutes of play.”

Saturday’s game opened with a back-and-forth scoring contest, with the Cougars keeping the game close hitting three-straight shots from three-point range. NMSU Women's Basketball Downs Utah Valley; Moriah Mack Joins 1,000 Point Club

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State women’s basketball finished off the first half of their 2017 conference schedule against the Utah Valley Wolverines on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies played strong defense from start to finish, in a game fueled by over 100 young Aggie fans in attendance that were a part of the morning kid’s clinic hosted by the coaches and players.

After guiding the Aggies to their eighth straight win, head coach Mark Trakh commented on the game saying, “We spread the ball around well against the zone defense and came up with big shots to win today.”

The game opened up slow on the offensive end throughout the first half, as each team’s defense made scoring tough. In the first quarter, NM State forced 10 turnovers and Utah Valley forced six as each team shots under 35 percent from the field. NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats Seattle In Battle For First Place In WAC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State women’s basketball squared off with the Seattle U. Redhawks on Thursday night at the Pan American Center. Each team entered undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play and held unblemished records in 2017, but after a hectic 45 minutes of play, NM State left on top, 73-69.

NM State opened up winning the tip and scoring the first basket, as the team led 10-5 over the first four minutes. However, Seattle U battled back behind 11 points from their season leading scorer, Alexis Montgomery (16.2 PPG). Strong play in the paint and a perfect six-for-six from the free-throw line allowed the Redhawks to end the first quarter ahead of the Aggies, 21-18.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats UMKC 60-43, Sweeps Season Series

KANSAS CITY, MO - Saturday afternoon saw the New Mexico State Aggies women’s basketball team square off against the Western Athletic Conference opponent UMKC Roos, at the Swinney Recreation Center located in Kansas City, Mo.

The two teams previously faced off on Jan. 5 as the Aggies bested the Roos at home, 78-72. The game on Saturday saw much of the same as NM State swept the season series against UMKC with the win, 60-43.

NM State came out strong, beginning with a 6-0 run to start the game. After the run, the teams began to trade baskets as the Aggies Brooke Salas led the way with 11 points. At the end of the first quarter, NM State led UMKC, 17-14. The lead was built off of strong play in the paint as they outscored the opposition, 10-4.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats Bakersfield 64-55

BAKERSFIELD, CA - On Saturday afternoon, New Mexico State Aggies women’s basketball squared off with conference foe CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif. A close game from start to finish saw NM State move to 4-0 in WAC play as they defeated the Roadrunners, 64-55.

The first quarter of the game opened as the Roadrunners won the opening tip and the first 10 minutes of the game featured back and forth play. Each team traded baskets, but the Roadrunners got into foul trouble early and had to rely on their bench to end a 6-0 run by the Aggies. After Moriah Mack ended scoring for the Aggies with a three-pointer, the first quarter came to a close as NM State led Bakersfield, 13-11.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Basketball Defeats Grand Canyon 81-65

PHOENIX, AZ - New Mexico State women’s basketball squared off with conference rival, Grand Canyon University on Thursday night in Phoenix, Ariz at GCU Arena. A strong performance on both ends from the Aggies saw the team defeat the Lopes, 81-65.

At the opening of the game, GCU won the tip and each team traded baskets early as the score sat at 4-4, but that was the last tie fans would see. The Aggies then took over and went on a 10-0 run to put the team ahead 14-4, only 6:30 into the game. The intensity was sustained to close out the quarter as Tamera William forced five steals and Brooke Salas added two blocks as the team scored seven points off those turnovers. NMSU Women's Basketball Routs Chicago State 100-63

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State women’s basketball played their second Western Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon against the Chicago State Cougars. A strong shooting night for the Aggies saw the team hit the century mark for the first time this season with an impressive 100-63 victory over CSU.

When asked about the team’s performance after the game, head coach Mark Trakh said, “We’ve seen the ball drop the last few games, now we just need to tighten up on defense. Chicago State played really hard but just wore out at the end because of their limited bench, which is understandable. NMSU Women's Basketball Opens WAC Play With 78-72 Win Over UMKC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s basketball teams first Western Athletic Conference game of the season pit the squad against the UMKC Roos on Thursday night. A tight game, reminiscent of the team’s 78-74 overtime victory over the Roos last year, saw the team win a close one, 78-72.
