The Aggie volleyball team used a second set comeback victory to sweep Boise State 25-16, 26-24, 25-10 and advance to the WAC Tournament championship match where they'll have a rematch against No. 3 Hawai'i on Wednesday night.
The Aggies dominated the first set 25-16 as they finished the set with 15 kills and only four attack errors to hit .367. Kayleigh Giddens and Krista Altermatt led the way for the Aggies in the first set with four kills apiece. Altermatt hit .500 in the set finished with no errors in eight attacks.
Set two saw the Aggies fall behind in the match and find themselves facing five set points as they trailed 24-19. After a Kelli Goodan block gave the Aggies a side out, Erin Birmingham began a run on serve and the Aggies picked up the come-from-behind victory winning 26-24.
The third set was all Aggies as NM State used the momentum from their set two victory to propel them to a dominant 25-10 set three win. The Aggies hit .632 in the set recording 14 kills on 19 swings with just two hitting errors and held Boise State to just four kills and forced seven attack errors on 23 swings for a -.130 hitting percentage. A career high 25 kills from Kayleigh Giddens was just enough as the Aggies won a five set thriller 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13 on Senior Night in the Pan Am. After jumping out to an 8-1 lead early and then a 21-16 lead late in the first set, the Aggies squandered two match point opportunities and Idaho stole set one in extra points 26-24.
