Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball took on Montana at the Pan American Center to open the SpringHill Suites Invitational on Friday night. In a five-set thriller, the Aggies took home the victory, defeating the Grizzlies 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-13.

"We made plays when we needed to but we were inconsistent. I was really disappointed about how we blocked the ball today," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Offensively, we had some good contributions. [Halle] Razo gave us a lift we needed defensively and did a great job. Anytime you can win when you're not playing your best, you should be happy with that."

NMSU Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches At The Sun Devil Classic

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

TEMPE, AZ - The New Mexico State volleyball team opened its season at the Wells Fargo Arena when the team took on Pacific as a part of the Sun Devil Classic. The Aggies defeated the Tigers in four sets 25-23, 14-25, 28-26, 25-22 to open their 2018 campaign.

"The first weekend is not pretty when you only have a couple weeks to prepare. You expect a lot of peaks and valleys and we certainly had that today," head coach Mike Jordan said. "I liked the competitiveness we showed at the end of the third set, coming back from a deficit. I think that injected some life into the team. Jordan Pleasants did a good job coming off the bench and helping with that as well. It was a good win against a WCC team and we'll take that any day. We look forward to our next matches."

bleedCrimson.net Weekly Coach Jordan Interview :: 11/14/17

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

bleedCrimson.net: Picked up a couple of wins last week and were able to win the regular season title. In the win at Grand Canyon you picked up your first five set win of the season. What were your thoughts about that win?
Mike Jordan: We were a little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. We really made some silly mistakes. Grand Canyon was pretty consistent throughout, dug a lot of balls, extended a lot of rallies and I thought served it pretty well. It's tough to win on the road. Teams play so much better at home in this league than they do on the road. We were inconsistent but we found ways in the end to make it happen. I was really disappointed in the fourth set. We had 20 kills in the set and lost. That's hard to do. I don't know that that's ever happened in my time here. We had five more kills than they did but we netted twice, we got called for two ball handling errors, just all these unforced errors came out of nowhere. We didn't serve it very efficiently. That fourth set was really the one where I was shaking my head when I was looking at the numbers at the end of it. I felt like it was a set we maybe should have dominated but fortunately we played well in the fifth, other than missing a couple of serves a little past the midway point. I think we missed back-to-back. That was frustrating but we were able to finish them off in the end.

bc.net: You had 10 kills and only one attack error in the fifth set. Fifth sets that you've played this year, you've had leads or been close in all of them and not been able to close out down the stretch of those sets. What was different in this one?
MJ: You're right, I was a little nervous about it and like I mentioned the serving, we had a lead and then we go back and miss a couple of serves and I really felt like, uh oh, here we go again. We've got to manage this game and not start making errors and fortunately I don't know that we made an error past that point, maybe just one. I was pretty happy with how efficient we were and we scored consistently in a couple of spots and that was a big deal.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Volleyball Sweeps Bakersfield To Close Out WAC Regular Season

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

BAKERSFIELD, CA - New Mexico State volleyball swept CSU Bakersfield at the Icardo Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies took down CSUB 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 to close out the regular season.

"Other than the bad start in the third set, we managed the game pretty well. I wasn't really happy with the ball control. We need to pass and set it better than we did today," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We worked hard and served it really well in stretches, that was a real positive. I'd obviously like to see better balance from us. At the end of the day, I'm proud of this group for going on the run we are on and being WAC Champions this season."

NMSU Volleyball Sweep Seattle

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State volleyball team picked up a sweep in their final home match of the season on Saturday. The Aggies defeated Seattle U 25-22, 25-13, 25-19, for their eighth-straight victory overall and their 13th-straight victory at the Pan American Center.

"The middles were a big part of our win today. They scored quite a bit when we needed them to," said head coach Mike Jordan. "I don't think we played great offensively. Seattle U served the ball well, like usual. As a team, they have great length, which creates problems for people."

NMSU Volleyball Sweeps Chicago State

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

CHICAGO, IL - New Mexico State volleyball took down Chicago State in straight sets at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies defeated the Cougars 25-22, 28-26, 25-10 for their sixth-straight victory.

"We won in three only because we were efficient offensively," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We didn't do a good job serving and blocking in the first two sets. We let them hit for too high of a percentage."

How it happened

NM State (17-7, 8-2 WAC) battled with CSU (10-17, 1-10 WAC) early on in the match but three-straight points for the Aggies gave New Mexico State a 13-10 advantage. With Kaylee Neal behind the service line, NM State built on its advantage to lead by six, however, Chicago State rallied tying the match 19-19. The Aggies pulled ahead 22-20 and did not surrender the lead as they closed out the first set 25-22.  Continue Reading This Post >>
