Aggies Swept At No. 6 Hawai'i

HONOLULU, HI - The New Mexico State volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-23) to the No. 6 Hawai'i in front of more than 8,000 fans in the Stan Sheriff Center, Saturday, Nov. 12.

With the loss NM State goes to 21-8 overall and 10-4 in Western Athletic Conference play and will be the No. 3 seed in the WAC Tournament because of the tie-breaker scenario with Idaho. Hawai'i moves to 26-1 on the year and 14-0 in league play and will be the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament that starts on November 21.

Freshman Meredith Hays had a team-high nine kills on the night while sophomore Stephanie Ziegler contributed with six and senior Kelsey Brennan also marked six kills. Brennan finished with a .364 hitting percentage but the Aggies were held to a .135 attack percentage as a team. UH hit .290 on the night and out-blocked NM State 8-6.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Spartans, Head To Honolulu For Showdown With No. 6 Hawai'i On Saturday

SAN JOSE, CA - The New Mexico volleyball team moved to 21-7 overall and 10-3 in Western Athletic Conference play after sweeping the San Jose State Spartans 25-23, 27-25, 25-26 in Spartan Gym, Thursday, Nov. 10. The Aggies have not lost to SJSU since Sept. 29, 1994 and are 22-9 against the Spartans.

NM State hit .274 as a team and held the Spartans to a .031 hitting percentage. Sophomore Stephanie Ziegler led the Aggies with a career-high 17 kills on the night and was just one dig short of a double-double. Senior libero Kelsi Phillips marked a match-high 16 digs and senior setter Jennah DeVries ran the offense with a match-high 36 assists and added eight digs.

Freshman Meredith Hays had 14 kills and senior Kelsey Brennan had a match-high .375 hitting percentage with eight kills on 16 attempts and only two errors.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Nevada On Senior Night

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team picked up at least 20 wins for the ninth time in the past ten years as it swept Nevada (25-13, 25-16, 25-23) in the Pan American Center, Saturday, Nov. 5.

NM State out-matched the Wolf Pack as it posted six service aces and a .350 hitting percentage. The Aggie defense held Nevada to a .059 hitting percentage and out-blocked the Wolf Pack 9-3. The Aggies were led by senior Kelsey Brennan who marked a .500 hitting percentage with nine kills on 18 attacks and didn't mark a single error.

Seniors Kelsi Phillips and Brynja Rodgers marked seven digs each on Senior Night and senior setter Jennah DeVries posted 31 assists and nine digs with to go along with two total blocks.

"The seniors are all great, young women and NMSU has done so much for them. I have so much respect for the program, the student-athletes and for everyone involved that has helped me out along the way," head coach Mike Jordan said. Aggie Volleyball Sweeps Fresno State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team ended a two-game losing streak by defeating the Fresno State Bulldogs in straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-15) Thursday night at the Pan American Center.

With the win, NM State goes to 19-7 overall and 8-3 in Western Athletic Conference play. Fresno State falls to 11-13 on the year and 5-6 in league play. The Aggies outhit Fresno State .240-.048 while each team tallied eight blocks each.

The Aggies started off slow in the first set. At one point Fresno State won eight of 10 points to take an 11-7 lead. After a timeout by Coach Mike Jordan while trailing 19-15, the Aggies came back to win six of the next eight points to tie the score at 21.

Aided by two big kills by senior Kelsey Brennan, the Aggies finished off the set winning 25-23. Brennan led the Aggies with five kills in the first set while sophomore outside-hitter Stephanie Ziegler added 4 kills.

The Aggies started off the second set better than the first, taking an early 11-7 lead. Freshman outside-hitter Meredith Hays, who had only one kill in the first set, seemed to come alive and led the Aggies with five kills in the second set.

The Bulldogs didn't go away quietly winning the next four points to tie the match at 11. The Aggies answered right back, however, with a six-point rally of their own to take command of the set.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Volleyball Falls On The Road At Idaho

MOSCOW, ID - The New Mexico State volleyball team dropped its second match in as many tries on the road this weekend after falling to Idaho 4-1 (19-25, 25-23, 14-25, 14-25), Saturday, Oct. 29, to fall to 18-7 overall and 7-3 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Vandals go to 13-11 overall and 7-4 in league play.

The Aggies struggled offensively hitting .105 on the night, while hitting a negative percentage in sets three and four. The Vandals hit .254 and out-blocked the Aggies 15-7. Freshman Meredith Hays marked a team-high 17 kills and senior Jennah DeVries tallied a double-double with 38 assists and 12 digs. NM State marked 31 attack errors compared to 17 attack errors by the Vandals.

Aggies Fall In Five Sets At Utah State

The New Mexico State volleyball team lost in five sets to Utah State on Thursday night in Logan, Utah as they were unable to convert on three separate match point opportunities in the fifth set. The Aggies had match point opportunities at 14-13, 15-14 and 16-15 but were unable to secure the victory as Utah State scored the final three points of the match. The loss drops the Aggies to 7-2 in WAC play while Utah State improves to 5-5 in conference play.

Meredith Hays recorded a match-high 25 kills on 57 attacks with 14 errors to hit .193 for the match. Kelsey Brennan notched 15 kills on 25 swings with just two attack errors to hit .520. The Aggies hit .242 while Utah State hit .255 for the match.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Volleyball Sweeps Louisiana Tech

RUSTON, LA - Senior Jennah DeVries marked her 10th double-double of the season and freshman Meredith Hays tallied her ninth as the New Mexico State volleyball team swept (25-16, 25-14, 25-22) Louisiana Tech for the second time this season, Saturday, Oct. 22 in Ruston, La.

The Aggies go to 18-5 overall and 7-1 in Western Athletic Conference play as DeVries led the way with 29 assists and 14 digs, while Hays was the only player [from both teams] with double-digit kill figures as she posted 13 kills and 12 digs.

Senior libero Kelsi Phillips added 11 digs with six assists as NM State was out-blocked 8-7. Phillips, who currently ranks fourth in the WAC in digs per set, needs just 54 more digs to enter the top 10 in the Aggie record books for digs in a career.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall In Five Sets To No. 8 Hawai'i

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team took No. 8 Hawai'i to five sets falling 3-2 in front of more than 3,000 fans at the Pan American Center, Wednesday, Oct. 12.

NM State dropped its first Western Athletic Conference match of the year to fall to 5-1 in league play and 16-5 overall, while Hawai'i is now the only undefeated team in league play at 6-0.

"It was back and forth for most of the match and Hawai'i showed why it's the No. 8 team in the country," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Meredith (Hays) played well and she is still learning and Stephanie (Ziegler) had a really good match and continues to play well for us."

Freshman outside hitter had as many kills as the returning WAC Player of the Year with 22 on the night. Sophomore Stephanie Ziegler tallied the first double-double of her career with 14 kills and 12 digs while she had a .256 hitting percentage on the night.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Fresno State To Win Sixth Straight Match

FRESNO, CA - The New Mexico State volleyball team won its sixth straight match after defeating Fresno State (25-15, 25-23, 25-19) in the Save Mart Center, in Fresno, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 8.

With the win, NM State goes to 5-0 in Western Athletic Conference play and 16-4 overall. It was the second match of the week that the Aggies won courtesy of a sweep as freshman Meredith Hays led the way offensively with 15 kills. Senior Kesley Brennan played very efficient with eight kills on 12 attempts and finished the night with a .583 hitting percentage.

The Aggies out-blocked Fresno State 13-4 with senior Michelle Kuester getting in on a match-high seven total blocks, one of those solo. Senior Jennah DeVries tallied three solo blocks and added 33 assists on the offensive side of the net.  Continue Reading This Post >>
