Aggies Sweep Arkansas-Little Rock

The New Mexico State volleyball team held off a scrappy Arkansas-Little Rock squad on Friday night in the Hotel Encanto Classic as they defeated the Trojans in three sets, 25-21, 29-27 and 25-16. The Aggies were led by freshman Meredith Hays who collected 14 kills and nine digs. Kelsey Brennan added a dozen kills and had five digs two block assists and a service ace. Senior setter Jennah DeVries recorded her fourth double-double of the season finishing with 42 assists and 10 digs and also collected three kills on the night.

The Aggies jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead but the Trojans battled back to tie the set at four apiece. The Aggies would extend the lead out to four points at 10-6 and they would push the lead to six at 15-9. The Aggies would take a 20-12 lead on a server ice by Kelsi Phillips but UALR would cut the Aggies' lead to just three at 22-19 and again at 23-20 but that would be as close as they would get with the Aggies taking the set 25-21.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Grambling To Open Hotel Encanto Tournament

The New Mexico State volleyball team got a balanced offensive performance en route to a sweep of visiting Grambling State on Friday morning in the first match of the Hotel Encanto Classic. The Aggies defeated the Tigers 25-14 in set one and 25-16 in sets two and three. The Aggies had four players with at least seven kills apiece led by middle attacker Kelsey Brennan with nine kills while hitting .500 with just two attack errors.

The Aggies jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set and quickly extended their lead to nine points with a 7-2 run that put them ahead 13-4. The Tigers would claw back into the set going on a 5-0 run to cut the Aggies' lead to four at 13-9 but New Mexico State would put together a 9-3 run to go ahead 22-12 before winning the set 25-14.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Nicholls State In Home Opener

Stephanie ZieglerLAS CRUCES, N.M. - Playing in its third match in three days, the New Mexico State volleyball team swept Nicholls State 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-15) in its home opener at the Pan American Center Sunday.

With the win, the Aggies improve to 2-1 in the early season while Nicholls State drops to 1-3.

NM State hit .283 in the match, recording 39 kills against 13 errors. The Aggies held the Colonels to a .034 hitting percentage, allowing 26 kills while forcing 23 miscues. The home team notched nine team blocks while Nicholls State tallied five.

Freshman Meredith Hays led the Aggies with 16 kills while hitting .367 in the match. Sophomore Stephanie Ziegler added eight successful attacks while sophomore Deirdre Pajares notched five. Senior setter Jennah DeVries recorded her third double-double of the season with 33 assists and a dozen digs.

"I thought we played a solid match tonight," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We did not block as well as we needed early, but other than that we played pretty good defense and served it well. Aggies Sweep South Florida For First Victory Of 2011

Deirdre PajaresThe New Mexico State volleyball team notched their first victory of the season sweeping the South Florida Bulls on Saturday evening. The Aggies took sets one and two by identical scores of 25-18 and used a 7-0 run midway through the third set to pull away posting a 25-17 win in the final set.

The Aggies had three players finish with double-digit kills as freshman Meredith Hays and sophomore Stephanie Ziegler tied for match-high honors with a dozen kills. Senior middle hitter Kelsey Brennan posted 11 kills on 17 swings with just attack errors to popst a .529 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Deirdre Pajares recorded nine kills on 13 swings with just two attack errors as she filled in on the right side for injured freshman Bradley Nash. Pajares led the Aggies with a .538 hitting percentage.

Senior setter Jennah DeVries recorded her second consecutive double-double posting 37 assists and a match-high 12 digs.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall To No. 5 Nebraska In Five Sets

Meredith HaysALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball came out firing against No. 5 Nebraska taking the first two sets, but the Cornhuskers bounced back to defeat the Aggies 3-2 (25-20, 26-24, 13-25, 12-25, 8-15).

NM State outhit the Huskers in set one and two, but defensive adjustments after the intermission slowed down the Aggie offense.  Freshman outside hitter Meredith Hays tallied a match-high 18 kills, while Morgan Broekhuis of Nebraska also marked 18 kills on the evening.

"We handled the ball pretty well and we played really good defense," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We did the things we needed to do to stay in it but you have to give credit to Nebraska for coming back and playing well at the right times."

Senior libero Kelsi Phillips marked a career-high 27 digs while adding seven assists as senior setter Jennah DeVries tallied her first double-double of the year with 40 assists and 17 digs. Senior middle Kelsey Brennan was the only other Aggie with double-digit kill figures as she marked 10 on the night with a .263 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Deirdre Pajares marked a team-high .333 hitting percentage with five kills on 12 attempts and committed only one error. Aggie Volleyball Sweeps Alumni

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team showed the kind of depth the team has as it swept the Aggie Alumni at the Pan American Center, Saturday, Aug. 20.

NM State defeated the Alumni team 25-21, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 with freshman Meredith Hays leading the way offensively with 12 kills and three service aces. The Aggies showed off the young arms as freshman Bradley Nash tallied eight kills and red-shirt sophomore Stephanie Ziegler finished with seven.

"We tried out a few different lineups today and I was happy with the different looks we had today," head coach Mike Jordan said. "There is a lot of competition for spots and I expect to see some players make some strides this week."  Continue Reading This Post >>
