#13 NMSU Continues To Roll In WAC Play

RUSTON, LA - The No. 13 New Mexico State volleyball team continued their winning ways, as they beat Louisiana Tech 30-21, 29-31, 30-24, 30-17 in Ruston, La., on Thursday.

Junior Lindsey Yon and sophomore Krista Altermatt each knocked down 20 kills in the four-game match. Altermatt hit the ball consistently as she came up with a .405 hitting percentage. They both had double-digit digs for another double-double on the season for each player.

"Lindsey and Krista played tough for us tonight," head coach Mike Jordan said."Our setters fed them the ball well and that helped them get their kills tonight."

The setting duties were split as junior Alyssa Gintant had 31 assists and freshman Brynja Rodgers had 27 of her own. Junior Krystal Torres led the way defensively with 18 digs.  Continue Reading This Post >>

No. 13 NMSU Gets Third Sweep Of The Week

MOSCOW, ID - The No.13 New Mexico State volleyball team swept Idaho (30-27, 30-24, 30-17) at Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho, Saturday, Nov. 3 for their consecutive sweep of the week.

Led by senior Kim Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS) who had 16 kills and hit .344 on the night, head coach Mike Jordan was very pleased to get another sweep. Three other Aggies had double-digit kills as juniors Amber Simpson (Quincy, Ill.), Lindsey Yon (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Krista Altermatt (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) all had 10 kills.

"Kim (Oguh) and Amber (Simpson) were able to do as well as they did because our setters fed them the ball well," Jordan said. "It's great to come on the road and pick up a sweep, especially against a good team like Idaho."  Continue Reading This Post >>

No. 13 NMSU Volleyball Gets Second Sweep Of The Week

Boise, ID - The No.13 New Mexico State volleyball team picked their second sweep in as many games as the Aggies beat Boise State 3-0 (30-18, 30-24, ) in Boise, Idaho, Thursday, Nov. 1.

In front of 322 rowdy fans in Bronco Gym, junior Lindsey Yon (San Antonio, Texas) led the way with 12 kills, while sophomore Krista Altermatt (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) had nine. As a team, NMSU had 13.5 blocks while senior Kim Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS) was involved in nine of those blocks.

“We blocked the ball pretty well and offensively we did just fine,” head coach Mike Jordan said.

Freshman Alex Steinmetz (Las Cruces, Las Cruces HS) stepped up and finished the night with seven kills and hit .353.

“We did a good job getting the ball to Alex,” Jordan said. “She has a good high reach and can move the ball around well. She keeps improving both offensively and defensively.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Miners, Take Season Series

EL PASO, TX - The 13th ranked Aggie volleyball team played a late season out of conference match on Tuesday night against I-10 rival UTEP. The Aggies swept the Miners in three games 30-28, 30-21, 30-21.

The Aggies started the game strong taking an early 3-0 lead and extended the lead to 10-6. UTEP would rally to tie the game at 11 and the teams would trade points to 20 before UTEP went on a four point run to take a 24-20. UTEP maintained their four point edge leading the match 26-22.

UTEP would take a 28-26 lead and looked to close out the game needing only two points, however the Aggies responded with a kill from Lindsey Yon to pull within one point at 28-27. Back to back attack errors by UTEP's Amy Sanders and Patty Jarmoc gave the Aggies the lead at 29-28 and Lindsey Yon finished off the comeback with a kill. #13 Aggies Get Swept Off The Island

HONOLULU, HI - What was supposed to be a thrilling match between two top 15 teams turned out to be a one-sided affair. NMSU came into the match looking to avenge their only conference loss of the season, left having been swept 3-0 by #11 Hawai'i.

The Aggies were behind by nine points in the first game at 24-15, then battled back to within two points at 28-26 but couldn't sustain the comeback, losing 30-26.

In game two the NMSU trailed early 8-4 but battle back to tie the game at 8 points apiece. The two teams went back and forth as the game was tied at 15 all. Hawai'i would pull away briefly going up 25-20 before the Aggies came back to tie the match at 28. However, a service error by Kim Oguh who served the ball into the net would give Hawai'i at 29-28 lead and Hawai'i would win the next point to take the game 30-28 and head into the intermission up 2-0.  Continue Reading This Post >>

20th Ranked Aggie Volleyball Team Sweeps Louisiana Tech 3-0

The Aggie volleyball team swept the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters on Thursday night in the Pan American Center. The Aggies won all three games by at least 10 points, winning game one 30-18, game two 30-20 and game three 30-17.

With the win the Aggies improve to 17-3 on the season and 8-1 in the WAC. The Aggies are off until next Thursday night when they take on Nevada at 7:00 p.m. in the Pan American Center.

No. 22 New Mexico State Finishes Road Trip With Sweep Over Spartans

SAN JOSE, CA - The No. 22 New Mexico State volleyball team finished the three game road trip with a sweep over San Jose State (30-22, 30-28, 30-28) in San Jose, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 6.

NMSU was led offensively by sophomore Krista Altermatt (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and junior Lindsey Yon with 14 kills each, while junior Krystal Torres (Las Cruces, Mayfield HS) was the defensive leader with another 20 kills.

“Our hitters played pretty well, although they got off to a slow start, and they hit the ball hard and were able to find some spots on the court,” head coach Mike Jordan said. “Krytal play great tonight stepped up for us to make some great plays.”

Junior setter Alyssa Gintant (Libertyville, Ill.) chipped in 26 assists, while freshman Brynja Rodgers (Iowa City, Iowa) had 19.  Continue Reading This Post >>

No. 22 New Mexico State Defeats Utah State 3-1

LOGAN, UT - The No. 22 New Mexico State volleyball team beat the second Utah opponent in as many days as they beat Utah State 3-1 (30-24, 31-29, 19-30, 30-23) to take second in the Western Athletic Conference in Logan, Utah, Thursday, Oct. 4.

Sophomore Krista Altermatt (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and junior Lindsey Yon (San Antonio, Texas) led the way for the Aggies both coming up with double-doubles on the night. Altermatt had 17 kills and 11 digs, while Yon had 16 kills and 10 digs.

"I feel fortunate that we picked up the win tonight," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Utah State could be one of the best teams in the conference and we didn't play as well as we should have, but we got the victory."

Junior libero Krystal Torres (Las Cruces, Mayfield HS) played great once again with 26 digs on the match. She also had one service ace and five assists. As a team, NMSU came up with three aces.  Continue Reading This Post >>

No. 22 New Mexico State Beats Utah On Crimson Court

SALT LAKE CITY, UT - The No. 22 New Mexico State volleyball team came up with a season high 11 aces to beat Utah 3-1 (30-21, 30-23, 23-30, 30-23) at Crimson Court in Salt Lake City, Utah, Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Junior Krystal Torres (Las Cruces, Mayfield HS) and senior Kim Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS) led the way with three service aces a piece.

"This was probably our best serving match of the year," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Kim has been solid all year and Krystal also did well. We're improving at the service line and it seems like were starting to get more comfortable at it."

Torres also led the Aggies defensively with 26 digs while chipping in with three assists. Oguh also came up with 12 kills on the night, hitting .276.  Continue Reading This Post >>
