NMSU Volleyball Drops Five Set Match At CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The New Mexico State volleyball team faced CSU Bakersfield at the Icardo Center on Saturday. The Aggies fell to the Roadrunners 25-18, 21-25, 12-25, 25-15, 6-15 for their second-straight loss in Western Athletic Conference play.

How it Happened

NM State (10-5, (0-2 WAC) started the match going back-and-forth, but following a three-point rally that started with a kill by Megan Hart, the Aggies led CSUB (8-6, 2-0 WAC) 10-7. With Natalie Mikels serving, New Mexico State expanded their lead to six but the 'Runner did not go away easy and closed in on NM State, turning the lead to just three. Down the stretch, the Aggies had all the momentum, leading 17-10, when CSU Bakersfield called its second timeout. NMSU Volleyball Drops WAC Opener At Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, CA - The New Mexico State volleyball team opened Western Athletic Conference play with a five-set thriller against California Baptist at the Van Dyne Gym on Thursday night. The Aggies fell to the Lancers 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 11-15 in their first league contest.

How it Happened

NM State (10-4) got off to a slow start, trailing CBU (10-3) by five early in the opening set. The Aggies clawed their way back to come within a pair down the stretch but quickly fell behind 17-13. With Halle Razo serving, New Mexico State rallied, coming within a point of the Lancers before California Baptist called a timeout to stop NM State's momentum. NMSU Volleyball Sweeps UT Martin

TUCSON, AZ - New Mexico State volleyball swept UT Martin at the McKale Center in the team's Wildcat Classic finale on Saturday. The Aggies defeated the Skyhawks 25-14, 25-12, 27-25 for the tournament victory.

"We played pretty efficiently today. I thought we served the ball pretty well in stretches, which was great," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We played good team defense and gave ourselves extra opportunities to score in transition. Overall, going 2-1 this weekend is not bad for this team. As young as we are to be 10-3, I'm fairly happy with that."

NMSU Volleyball Splits A Pair Of Matches On First Day At Wildcat Classic

TUCSON, AZ - New Mexico State volleyball took down UC Davis at the McKale Center to open the teams run at the Wildcat Classic. The Crimson and White defeated the opposition 26-24, 10-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-8, in the five-set thriller.

"This UC Davis team gave us a run. They are definitely the best serving team we've faced all year and they are good defensively," head coach Mike Jordan said. "In a lot of ways, we were fortunate to win because we had long stretches of poor passing and bad swings. We gave up way too many point runs, but at the end of the day we kept plugging along and made plays when we needed."

Tatyana Battle Named WAC Volleyball Offensive Player Of The Week

DENVER, CO – New Mexico State volleyball's Tatyana Battle was named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. This is the senior's first WAC honor this season and third of her career as an Aggie.

Battle averaged 3.47 points and 3.25 kills last week, helping NM State to a 4-0 record. She was named MVP of the Borderland/SpringHill Suites Invitational after playing in every set of every match including a pair of five-set victories. In the Aggies' five-set win over Montana, she posted a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. When handing Arizona its only loss this season, Battle finished the match with 14 kills and eight digs and held her composure when it mattered most, clinching match point with a kill off the Wildcat blockers. Against rival UTEP, the outside hitter led the team with 13 kills to go along with five digs, two assists, one block and a service ace.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Volleyball Sweeps UTEP

EL PASO, TX - New Mexico State volleyball defeated UTEP at the Memorial Gym in the final match of the Borderland Invitational on Sunday. The Aggies swept the Miners 25-11, 25-22, 25-20, extending their winning streak to six matches.

"We were worried about a letdown after the big win yesterday, but I thought we came in with the right attitude, we were competitive. I thought we had a letdown for a few points in set two but I thought we battled back," head coach Mike Jordan said. "I'm very happy with the defensive effort, Halle Razo really stepped up for us. We set the ball pretty well and hitting .340 is pretty huge. Sweeping the rivals is great and getting a win over a team receiving votes in the coaches' poll, it's a big deal."

NMSU Volleyball Takes Down Arizona In Five Sets

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball took down Arizona at the Pan American Center as a part of the SpringHill Suites Invitational on Saturday. The Aggies stunned the Wildcats in a five-set thriller, knocking off Arizona 25-16, 17-25, 23-25, 27-25, 15-12 and handing the team its first loss of the season.

"I'm really happy for our team. We haven't been able to knock off Arizona and last year's loss was a bitter pill to swallow. It's a much better feeling this year," head coach Mike Jordan said. "I'm really proud of Ashley Anselmo and Megan Hart. They did a lot of great things whether it be attacking the ball or blocking the ball. Everyone that played contributed in one way or another We still have a lot to learn but we're making progress.

NMSU Volleyball Defeats Montana In Five Sets

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball took on Montana at the Pan American Center to open the SpringHill Suites Invitational on Friday night. In a five-set thriller, the Aggies took home the victory, defeating the Grizzlies 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 15-13.

"We made plays when we needed to but we were inconsistent. I was really disappointed about how we blocked the ball today," head coach Mike Jordan said. "Offensively, we had some good contributions. [Halle] Razo gave us a lift we needed defensively and did a great job. Anytime you can win when you're not playing your best, you should be happy with that."

NMSU Volleyball Sweeps Grambling State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball took on Grambling State in the team's home opener at the Pan American Center on Tuesday night. The Aggies swept the Tigers 25-15, 25-17, 25-13 for the home-court victory.

"I was happy we got almost everyone into the match tonight," head coach Mike Jordan said. "It's very important for young players to have success. Many people got that opportunity tonight and some capitalized on it."

How it Happened

NM State (5-2) came out hot when a four-point run put the Aggies ahead of GSU (0-7) 9-5. A seven-point swing continued to favor the New Mexico State with a service error ending the rally the expanded the advantage to 10. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball took on Florida Gulf Coast at the Dreamstyle Arena on Friday morning. Despite Tatyana Battle tallying her 1,000th career kill, the Aggies fell to the Eagles 25-20, 25-12, 25-22 in the opening match of the Lobo Classic.

How it Happened

NM State (2-2) went back-and-forth with FGCU (3-1) in the first set of the contest and after back-to-back points for New Mexico State, including a kill by Savannah Davison, the Aggies led 9-7 and FGCU called a timeout. The Eagles did not go away easily and rallied to hold a 16-14 advantage, forcing the Aggies to call a timeout. The break in the action did not stop the momentum for Florida Gulf Coast and late in the set, New Mexico State trailed by six. Despite an NM State three-point rally, the deficit proved to be too much for New Mexico State to overcome and the squad fell 25-20 in the opening set.  Continue Reading This Post >>
