The New Mexico State volleyball team closed out the season with a 3-0 (8-25, 17-25, 14-25) loss to No. 12 national seed BYU in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.

It was a rough night offensively for the Aggies as they struggled with their ball control and could seemingly never string together long point runs as they had done in the WAC tournament just a week ago. The Aggies hit -.034 as a team, the only time the team has been held to a negative hitting percentage this season. Lauren Loerch led the Aggie attack finishing with a team-high seven kills on 20 swings hitting .250. Meredith Hays finished the night with six kills on 21 swings hitting .143.

The Aggies were plagued by a slow start in the first set falling behind 12-2 as BYU turned a slim 3-2 lead into a comfortable ten point advantage. The Aggies would never recover and the Cougars would take an easy 25-8 victory.  Continue Reading This Post >>

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The No. 4 seed New Mexico State volleyball team won the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Tournament title by defeating No. 2 seed Idaho, 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19) in the Convocation Center, Wednesday, Nov. 21.

The Aggies get an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Tournament and will find out where they play when the selection show airs at 2 p.m. (MT) on Sunday, Nov. 25 on ESPNU. The NCAA Tournament begins, Thursday, Nov. 29 in various locations around the country.

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The No. 4 seed New Mexico State volleyball team upset No. 1 seed Utah State in the semifinals of the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Tournament, Tuesday, Nov. 20 in San Antonio, Texas.

Sophomore Meredith Hays paced the Aggies offensively with a match-high 17 kills as the Crimson Aggies swept USU 25-21, 25-19, 25-16. This was a completely different match than the two regular-season matches as NM State did not allow a single USU player to get more than seven kills.

"We played a great match all-around," head coach Mike Jordan said. "We played great defense, passed the ball well and served the ball tough. It was a great team effort tonight."

NM State served the ball tough against USU marking nine service aces with junior Stephanie Ziegler marking a career-high three, while three other players added two each. Utah State tallied only two service aces against the southern Aggies.  Continue Reading This Post >>

SAN ANTONIO, TX - The New Mexico State volleyball team (20-10) swept the Denver Pioneers (17-13), 25-15, 25-17, 26-24 in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, Monday, Nov. 19 in San Antonio, Texas.

The Aggies hit .389 as a team with only 10 attack errors to handle Denver and head into the semifinals of the tournament. Junior middle hitter Desiree Scott led the way with a .625 hitting percentage posting 10 kills on 16 swings without a single error. Junior outside hitter Lauren Loerch added a match-high 11 kills while hitting .474, which is a season-high for her.

Sophomore Meredith Hays added nine kills and a match-high 13 digs, while junior Ciara Brown and freshman Taylor Livoti split the setting duties as they marked 22 and 21 assists respectively.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team (19-10, 12-6 WAC) lost to Idaho (15-13, 13-5 WAC) in straight sets (22-25, 29-31, 19-25), in the Pan American Center, Tuesday, Nov. 15.

With the loss, the Aggies will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Western Athletic Conference volleyball tournament, which starts Monday in San Antonio, Texas.

NM State was outhit by the Vandals, .156-.257 and was out-blocked 13-8. Sophomore Meredith Hays led the Aggies offensively with a match-high 17 kills but NM State's five service errors and 28 attack errors would not allow for the team to get into a rhythm.

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Junior outside hitter Lauren Loerch tallied 16 points on 15 kills and two block assists as the NM State fell 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 22-25, 20-25) to Texas-San Antonio in the Convocation Center, Saturday, Nov. 10. NM State is now 19-9 on the season and 12-5 in Western Athletic Conference play. UTSA is also 12-5 in league play.

Junior Desiree Scott followed Loerch's lead as she posted 14 kills on a .429 hitting percentage to also score 16 points on the afternoon. Sophomore Meredith Hays was the third Aggie player with double-digit kill figures with 10.

The Aggies jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set and never lost the lead. NM State never allowed the Roadrunners to pull within less than three points before winning by nine at 25-16. The Aggie defense held UTSA .057 hitting percentage in the set.  Continue Reading This Post >>

SAN MARCOS, TX - Junior Desiree Scott led the New Mexico State volleyball team to a 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-22) win in Strahan Coliseum, Thursday, Nov. 8.

Scott posted a match-high 19 kills and was basically unstoppable as she marked only two errors in four sets to finished with a match-high .500 hitting percentage. She was also in on six blocks as the Aggies rallied from a 1-0 deficit after falling 25-19 in set one.

NM State moves to 19-8 overall and 12-4 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Bobcats fall to 14-13 overall and 9-7 in league action.

Texas State took over set one out-blocking the Aggies to take an early 1-0 lead.

Set two started like the first set with the Aggies falling behind early one. NM State fought back and won set two 27-25 on a net call to gain momentum heading into the intermission.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State falls to 18-8 on the year and 11-4 in Western Athletic Conference play while USU moves to 19-7 overall and 14-2 in league play. The Crimson Aggies were out-hit as a team .129-.256 and were out-blocked 15.5-7. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team (18-7, 11-3 WAC) swept San Jose State (12-13, 8-7 WAC), 25-17, 25-19, 25-21, Thursday night in the Pan American Center.

The Aggies outhit SJSU .316-.132 with sophomore Meredith Hays posting a match-high 17 kills to go along with two solo blocks and seven digs. Red shirt freshman Bradley Nash played efficiently as she posted a season-high .714 hitting percentage with five kills on seven swings. She also had three digs and two block assists.

"We're still getting better and there's a lot of room for improvement," head coach Mike Jordan said. "And I'm glad I'm seeing growth. We're fortunate that we've got depth and we can change things if we need to. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Juniors Desiree Scott and Lauren Loerch tallied 11 kills each to lead the Aggies to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16) win over Seattle U. in the Pan American Center, Monday, Oct. 29.

Scott and Loerch each scored 13 points on the night while Scott was very efficient in the middle once again posting a .409 hitting percentage. The Aggies posted a .333 hitting percentage as a team with red shirt freshman Gwen Murphy adding to the cause with a .750 hitting percentage for herself.
