Aggie Baseball Falls 11-3 To No. 20 Oregon

EUGENE, OR - The New Mexico State baseball team (0-6) fell 11-3 to No. 20 Oregon (5-1), Friday, Feb. 20 at PK Park in Eugene, Ore. in front of 2,312 fans.

The Aggies were tied with Oregon three times in the game but just allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth on a walk and another in the bottom of the seventh on a double steal to fall behind 5-3. Aggie Baseball Falls To 0-5 With 3-1 Loss At No. 20 Oregon

EUGENE, OR - The New Mexico State baseball team (0-5) gave up two runs late in the game to fall to No. 20 Oregon (4-1) by the score of 3-1 at PK Park in Eugene, Ore., Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Game was tied 1-1 thru 6 ½ innings before Oregon scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and another in the bottom of the eighth to fall behind 3-1. The Aggies went into the ninth inning with the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 hitters going to the dish but could not get on base to gain any momentum.

The Aggies were first to get on the board after cleanup hitter Derek Umphres got on with a lead-off single in the second inning. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by right fielder Daniel Johnson and came in on a single by designated hitter Joseph Koerper. There was a play at the plate when Umphres slid in but he got around the Oregon catcher’s tag.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Falls To 0-4

BEAUMONT, TX - The New Mexico State baseball team played four games in the Cardinal Classic this weekend and fell 9-2 in the final game of the tournament to host team Lamar in Beaumont, Texas, Saturday, Feb. 14.

The Aggies fall to 0-4 after playing in a tournament that featured Illinois and Lamar. The Cardinals moved to 2-1 on the year, while NM State finished the series combining for 21 hits and 11 runs over two days of play.

NM State struggled early on against the Cardinals giving up five runs on four hits in the first three innings of play. The Aggie pitching staff fought through the game together as five hurlers were used on the evening compared to Lamar using only two.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Baseball Opens 2015 Season With A Pair Of Losses

BEAUMONT, TX - The New Mexico State baseball team opened the 2015 season falling in 10 innings to Illinois before dropping a close game to host team Lamar in the 2015 Cardinal Classic that is being played at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont, Texas, Friday, Feb. 13. The Aggies start the year 0-2 after losing 5-1 to Illinois and 7-6 to the Cardinals.

First year head coach Brian Green saw his team take the field for the very first time today and was very emotional to coach for his alma mater. His team combined for 11 hits on the day with three doubles and seven runs on the day. Green, who played NM State in 1994 and 1995, mentioned that the Aggies competed well on opening day.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Ends Season With 9-5 Loss To Top Seed Sacramento State

MESA, ARIZ. - The New Mexico State Aggie baseball team's 2014 season came to an end as they fell 9-5 to top seeded Sacramento State on Friday afternoon. Playing in their third consecutive elimination game, the Aggies were unable to stave off elimination a third time. Coming off a 7-4 victory over 2-seed UTPA 90 minutes earlier, the Aggies fell behind 4-0 in the first as left-hander Robert Kraft, starting his second game of the day, could not sustain his earlier sharpness. Kraft started the game giving up a full count walk which was then followed by two singles and a double to score three Hornet runs. Kraft was lifted for Zach Freeman who came in and recorded a sacrifice fly out giving Sacramento State a 4-0 lead. Aggie Baseball Knocks Off 2-Seed UTPA 7-4, Faces Top Seed Sacramento State In Elimination Game

MESA, ARIZ. - Facing their second straight elimination game, the New Mexico State baseball team once again got the offense going early scoring three runs in the bottom of the second on a bases clearing triple by senior Taylor Noyer to take a 3-0 lead. Aggie Baseball Defeats Seattle 7-3 In WAC Tournament Elimination Game

MESA, ARIZ. - Coming off of a heartbreaking loss just hours earlier, the New Mexico State baseball team bounced back with a 7-3 victory over SeattleU in the first elimination game of the 2014 conference tournament. Aggie Baseball Loses Heartbreaker To Utah Valley In WAC Tournament Opener

MESA, ARIZ. - The New Mexico State baseball lost in heartbreaking fashion in their opening game of the 2014 WAC Baseball Championship tournament falling 11-10 to Utah Valley.

The Aggie offense got rolling early putting up four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Aggies added another run in the top of the second on an RBI single from Derek Umphres. Aggie Baseball Falls To Chicago State 8-5

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team lost its second-straight game to Chicago State, 8-5, on Friday at Presley Askew Field. The Aggies fall to 19-29 on the season and 10-13 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Cougars are now 17-35 and 5-18 in WAC competition.

Even with the loss, NM State punched its ticket into the WAC Tournament next week after Sacramento State defeated North Dakota earlier in the day.

The Aggies were outhit 14-10 on Friday and committed three errors on the night. Catcher Kevin Carswell, right fielder Michael Paulson and left fielder Joe Koerper each had two hits on the night for NM State. One of Paulson’s hits was his first home run of the season.

Sophomore right-hander Zach Freeman was saddled with the loss after pitching into the sixth and allowing five runs on eight hits. Freeman falls to 3-6.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall To Chicago State 14-7 In Series Opener

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team fell 14-7 to Chicago State, Thursday, May 15 at Presley Askew Field to fall to 19-28 overall and 10-12 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Cougars move to 16-35 on the year and 4-18 in league play.

NM State posted its seven runs on 11 hits and Chicago State crossed the plate 14 times on 16 hits, while both teams committed four errors. Starting left-handed pitcher Bob Kraft was credited with the loss and is now 2-4 on the year and Chicago State starter Nick Kostalek got the win to move to 4-2 this season.
