Aggie Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale 6-3 At Northern Colorado

GREELEY, CO - New Mexico State (32-21, 20-7) fell to Northern Colorado (16-32, 11-12) 6-3 in the regular season finale on Saturday.

Aggie Baseball Hangs On For 18-16 Win Over Northern Colorado

GREELEY, CO - New Mexico State (32-20, 20-6) hung on to take a series clinching victory over Northern Colorado (15-32, 10-12) with the 18-16 win. The 18 runs were a season high for the Aggies, who have now won a season-high 7 straight games.

Aggie Baseball Defeats Northern Colorado 10-6, Move Into Tie For First Place After Seattle Loss To Sacramento State

GREELEY, CO - A four-run eighth inning lifted New Mexico State (31-20, 19-6) over Northern Colorado (15-31, 10-11) 10-6 on Thursday. The Aggies four triples in the game tied a single-game school record set against C.W. Post in 1990 and against Chicago State in 2005.

Northern Colorado got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two outs. The third wild pitch of the inning scored the game’s first run, putting the Bears up 1-0.

The Aggies answered in the second as Dan Hetzel led off with a single through the left side. Mason Fishback grounded into a 4-3 double play. L.J. Hatch drew a full count walk. Trey Stine brought him home with a double off the left center wall, tying the game at one run apiece.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Sweeps Series At North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - New Mexico State (30-20, 18-6) swept the series over North Dakota (8-34, 4-20) with the 7-2 win on Sunday. With the win, the Aggies have now won 30 games for the first time since 2012, when the club won 35 games.

Once again the Aggies got on the board first, as Daniel Johnson singled to right field to start the game. He then stole second, his 25th swipe of the season. On a 1-2 pitch, Dan Hetzel blasted a two-run shot to left.

The Fighting Hawks led off the bottom of the first with a single to left. The runner moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. During an at-bat later that inning, he stole third and scored on an E2 throwing error.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Dominant starting pitching helped New Mexico State (29-20, 17-6) sweep Saturday’s doubleheader against North Dakota (8-33, 4-19). Both Marcel Renteria and Kyle Bradish pitched their best outings of the season in the twin bill, with neither allowing a run. The 6-0 and 4-0 wins were the first shutout wins for the Aggies since shutting out Seattle U 4-0 on May 17, 2013.

GAME ONE

Junior Marcel Renteria shut down the Fighting Hawks offense striking out a career high 12 batters and only allowing three hits over his seven innings pitched in the 6-0 win.

The Aggies came out red hot as Daniel Johnson led off with a single to left. Greg Popylisen beat out a bunt down the first base line for a base hit. Dan Hetzel flew out to left, but moved Johnson and Popylisen into scoring position. Aggie Baseball Claims Series Over Seattle With 7-5 Win

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State (27-20, 15-6) held off a late rally by Seattle U (29-18, 16-5) to clinch the series with a 7-5 win on Sunday. Juniors Dan Hetzel and L.J. Hatch helped the Aggies to victory with two RBIs apiece.

The Aggies got on the board first in the second inning, as L.J. Hatch hammered a solo home run to straight away center on a 1-0 pitch. Trey Stine double to left center. Brent Sakurai scored Stine with a base hit to right, putting NM State up 2-0.

Seattle U cut into the lead in the third, as they got a base runner on a single through the left side. A double to right scored the run, pulling the Redhawks with one run at 2-1.

The Aggies pushed the lead back out in the bottom half, as Austin Botello drew a 3-1 walk. Dan Hetzel moved him over with a base hit through the 5-6 hole. Mason Fishback scored Botello with a single to through the right side of the infield.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Rebounds With 8-5 Game Two Win Over Seattle

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After falling in extra inning on Friday, New Mexico State (26-20, 14-6) bounced back with an 8-5 win over Seattle U (29-17, 16-4) on Saturday. Junior Austin Botello’s 3-for-4 day at the plate with three RBI played a major role in the win, finishing just a double shy of the cycle.

The Aggies came out hot in the bottom of the first, as Daniel Johnson led off with a base hit to short. Johnson was caught stealing second during the next at-bat. Greg Popylisen drew a full count walk. On the first pitch he saw, Austin Botello belted a two-run moon shot to right, putting NM State up 2-0 early.

Seattle U cut the lead to one run in the second. Brock Carpenter, who hit the game tying home run on Friday, unloaded on a 2-2 pitch for a leadoff solo homer.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Falls To Seattle 10-9 In Extra Innings

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After being down 5-1 after the first inning, New Mexico State (25-20, 13-6) fought all the way back, but ultimately came up short 10-9 against Seattle U (29-16, 16-3) in an 10-inning thriller on Friday.

Seattle U came out white hot to start the game, leading off with a single to center field. Two back-to-back base hits led to both runs scoring on a single to left field. A double to left center scored another run. A single down the left field line scored the fourth and fifth runs of the inning for the Redhawks.

NM State looked to cut into the lead as they came to the plate for the first time in the bottom half of the inning. After watching a pitch for a ball, Daniel Johnson unloaded on the next pitch, sending it over the wall in right for his sixth home run in five games.  Continue Reading This Post >>
