Aggies Have Tough Day On The Diamond

The Aggie softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Nevada in Reno on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies lost both games by one run falling 4-3 in game one and 3-2 in game two. The Aggies never led in game one and scored two runs late to get to within one run heading into the top of the seventh inning and had the tying run at second base with one out but were unable to score. In game two the Aggies jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning but Nevada scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings to regain the lead. The Aggies once again had a runner on base in the top of the seventh but were unable to score. The tough times for Aggie standout sophomore third baseman Ashley Maroda continues as she finished the day 0 for 6 from the plate striking out in all three at bats in the first game of the doubleheader.

Aggie Baseball Comes From Behind To Beat Rival UNM 5-4

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Aggies got a two run home run from 2B Mike Sodders to go ahead 5-3 in the top of the ninth inning and Preseason All-WAC closer Erik Nyquist held on for the save after allowing one Lobo run to cross the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. The home run was Sodders' second game winning home run in as many games. The Aggies improve to 12-1 on the season and host Northern Colorado this weekend at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces, N.M.

Mike Sodders Hits Walk-Off Blast To Complete Sweep Of Hartford

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Junior second baseman Mike Sodders hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the New Mexico State baseball team a 12-11 come-from-behind victory and a sweep over Hartford at Presley Askew Field, Sunday, March 8.

Sodders (Moreno Valley, Calif.) blasted a two-run shot over the wall in the bottom of the ninth inning, which brought in Nate Shaver (The Dalles, Ore.) and himself. Sodders finished the day 2-of-4 at the plate with two RBIs and scored three times, while Shaver was also a major contributor, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

"Nate Shaver continued to stay hot and had a really nice weekend," head coach Rocky Ward said. "Sodders came through in a clutch moment and that is good because we worked on our hitting in circumstances like this in practice."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Earn 12-2 Run Rule Victory Over Hartford

The Aggies earned a 12-2 victory over Hartford in game one of their Saturday doubleheader. After giving up a leadoff home run, starting pitcher Jared Jordan allowed just five more hits and no runs and fanned four in next five innings. The Aggies scored four runs in the bottom of the first, then followed that up with three runs in the bottom of the second and two runs in the bottom of the third to build a 9-1 lead. The Aggies would push two more runs across the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the lead to 11-1. Hartford scored in the top of the sixth to draw to within 11-2 but the Aggies loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning and DH Ben Harty singled to drive home the game winning run-rule run.

The Aggies collected 14 hits and backup catcher Chuck Howard hit his third home run of the season. The Aggies also hit six doubles and a triple. Nate shaver finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and DH Ben Harty went 2 for 4 and also drove in three runs.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Baseball Wins 5-4 In Come From Behind Victory

Jared Jordan hit a two run home run to right center in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Aggies to a 5-4 come from behind victory over the visiting Hartford Hawks on Friday night. Hartford scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Aggies responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two run home run by shortstop Bryan Marquez. Hartford extended their lead to 4-2 scoring a run in the top of the fifth inning. Bryan Marquez hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning to draw the Aggies back within one run. Sebastien Vendette who came entered the game in relief in the sixth inning held Hartford scoreless over the final three innings to notch the victory for the Aggies. Vendette moves to 3-0 on the season while the Aggies improve to 8-1 on the season.

The Aggies and Hawks face each other again tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. and will wrap up the four game series on Sunday.

Aggie Baseball And Softball Teams Win On Sunday

The Aggie baseball team completed its second consecutive series sweep of the season winning 20-4 over visiting Chicago State. The Aggies had 23 hits and got home runs from newcomers Nate Shaver, Wade Reynoso and Steven Anderson. Noah Garza got the start for the Aggies and went 4.1 inning giving up all four earned runs. Jake Wilson, John Doyle, Scott Coffman, Daniel Reyes and Jared Jordan combined to two hit Chicago State over the final 4.2 innings. The relievers struck out five of the 13 batters they faced and walked just two. The Aggies improve to 7-0 on the season and will face in-state rival New Mexico on Tuesday evening at Presley Askew Field at 6:00 p.m.

The Aggie softball team snapped its three game losing streak in the desert by beating fellow WAC member Utah State. The southern Aggies allowed just four hits using a combination of three pitchers, Vanessa Fitzgerald, Nicole Russell and Kelsey Schueler. Shortstop Kylie Randall hit her first career home run in the game. The Aggies are now 16-6 on the season and take the next weekend off before traveling to San Diego the following weekend for the San Diego Classic II.

Aggie Baseball Wins Two Against Chicago State In Doubleheader

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State baseball team continued their unbeaten streak Saturday in a doubleheader after handling Chicago State 13-6 and 15-0. The Aggies are now 6-0 on the season, their best start since the 2004 season.
