NMSU Baseball Routs Mount Saint Mary's 13-2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The bats were white hot on a balmy Friday night at Presley Askew Field as the New Mexico State baseball team routed Mount St. Mary’s 13-2 behind 18 hits.

The Aggies (3-3) struck first in their bottom half of the first inning when LJ Hatch roped a double in the left-center gap that plated a pair of runs with two outs.

A sacrifice fly to center by Austin Botello scored another run in the second before NM State exploded for five runs in the fourth. The Aggies batted around the order that inning with Brent Sakurai making his second trip for the final out, but not before five Aggies crossed the dish.

Johnathan Groff (1-1, 5.40 ERA) settled in well after giving up a run in the third and pitched back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth frame. NMSU Baseball Falls To Texas Tech 16-1

LUBBOCK, TX - The New Mexico State baseball team’s pitching staff couldn’t contain a hot-hitting Texas Tech team and fell to the 21st-ranked Red Raiders 16-1 Tuesday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.

How It Happened
New Mexico State jumped out to a 1-0 lead to start the game after Dan Hetzel plated Greg Popylisen from third on a deep fly ball to center for the sacrifice RBI. However, Texas Tech answered with a run of its own in the bottom-half of the second.

The Red Raiders then scored the go-ahead run the very next inning on a throwing error from LJ Hatch that scored TTU’s Michael Davis from second. NMSU Baseball Routs Bryant 20-7 In Series Finale

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team faced off against the Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Presley Askew Field. The game ended a four-game weekend series as the Aggies split the match up with a decisive, 20-7, victory on day three.

NM State head coach Brian Green shared his thoughts on the strong team performance saying, “We did a great job today. We swung at good pitches and were very aggressive early in the count. We had a lot of quality at-bats today and any time you can put up 20 runs, it’s a good feeling.”

How it happened

The Aggies went down 2-0 early after giving up a solo home run in the first inning, followed by a RBI double with two outs in the second. After that, the scoring was all Aggies for the next three innings.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Baseball Drops Season Opener To Bryant 6-3

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State baseball team opened the season against the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday night at Presley Askew Field. The Aggies battled the Bulldogs through all nine innings, as the team dropped the first game of the season, 6-3.

After squaring off against one of the nation’s top pitchers in the season opener, NM State head coach Brian Green commented, ““He (Bryant starting pitcher James Karinchak) did a really good job. We were able to get his pitch count up and get him out of the game fairly early. That was the goal against him. He did a really nice job and we didn’t respond. He sped us up a little bit, but credit to him. He did a great job. We certainly had our hands full tonight.”

Aggie Baseball Falls To Seattle 12-10 In WAC Tournament; Botello, Popylisen, Johnson Named To All-Tournament Team

Aggie Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale 6-3 At Northern Colorado

GREELEY, CO - New Mexico State (32-21, 20-7) fell to Northern Colorado (16-32, 11-12) 6-3 in the regular season finale on Saturday.

Aggie Baseball Hangs On For 18-16 Win Over Northern Colorado

GREELEY, CO - New Mexico State (32-20, 20-6) hung on to take a series clinching victory over Northern Colorado (15-32, 10-12) with the 18-16 win. The 18 runs were a season high for the Aggies, who have now won a season-high 7 straight games.
