GRAND PRAIRIE, TX - The New Mexico State baseball team ended the Western Athletic Conference Tournament losing streak defeating No. 2 seed UT Arlington 4-3 in QuikTrip Park, Friday, May 24. The Aggie lost nine straight WAC Tournament games dating back to 2009 when the tournament was held in Honolulu.

The Aggies are now 29-27 on the year after senior Ryan Beck picked up the win working 7.2 innings to hold off UTA. Senior right-hander Evan Mott, a second team all-WAC selection, finished the game working 1.1 innings and striking two Mavericks. Beck is now 8-4 this season while Mott now has four saves.

“I would have liked to see more from our offense today, but it is great to get this win, especially for seniors like Beck and Hipp who have been with us for the past four years,” head coach Rocky Ward said. “Now we have to take care of business tomorrow and hope that UTA also gets a win.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Senior left hand pitcher Ryan Beck tallied seven strikeouts on the afternoon and New Mexico State attempted a ninth inning comeback but fell short losing 6-5 to UTSA in game two of the three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas, Saturday, May 11.

NM State trailed 5-0 heading to the fifth but the Aggies showed a never-say-die attitude losing by just one run. The Aggies are now 5-3 in one-run games and continue to struggle in away-games holding a 6-13 record on the road.  Continue Reading This Post >>

SAN ANTONIO, TX - In a game that featured a 41-minute lighting delay, the New Mexico State baseball team fell 9-4 to UTSA in game one of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Roadrunner Field, Friday, May 10. The Aggies fall to 27-22 on the season and 12-10 in WAC play, while UTSA moves to 26-22 this season and 10-11 in the league.

The Aggies scored two runs in the top of the first on a two-run homer by junior left fielder Quinnton Mack but the NM State defense allowed five runs to cross the plate in the bottom of the inning. The five runs scored on four hits, an error and two walks.   Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team came back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat San Jose State, 8-5 at Presley Askew Field, Sunday, May 5. The Aggies are now 27-21 this year and 12-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning but SJSU scored another in the second and two more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. An RBI single by junior Tanner Rust cut the Spartan lead in half at 4-2 after three innings of play. SJSU tallied another run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

Senior right-hand pitcher Casey Collins entered the game in the fifth inning to slow down the Spartans. He worked 3.0 innings and did not allow a run to cross the plate while striking out two batters. He earned the win on the afternoon and is now 5-4 on the year.   Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior starting pitcher Ryan Beck threw a complete game shutout as the New Mexico State baseball team defeated San Jose State 9-0 at Presley Askew Field, Saturday, May 4. The Aggies improve to 26-21 on the year and 11-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Beck worked all nine innings and tallied three strikeouts allowing just one run on six hits on one walk. The NM State defense allowed two errors but got out of situations like it did in the seventh when it pulled a 6-3-1 double play.

“I am proud of what Beck did out there today,” head coach Rocky Ward said. “This is probably his best outing of the year and the offense is really starting to show the kind of consistency we expect.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team dominated San Jose State in game one of the three-game home league series winning 17-1 in seven innings at Presley Askew Field, Friday, May 3. The Aggies are now 25-21 on the year and 10-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Senior starting pitcher Adam Mott moves to 6-4 on the year after working seven inning and allowing just one run. He tallied seven strikeouts on the night and now has 79 K’s in 82.0 innings of work. Senior third baseman Bobby Lecount sparked the Aggie offense as he tied his career-high of six RBI while going 3-of-4 at the dish with two home runs. Lecount marked six RBI against Fresno State on May 12, 2012 as well.

“We had a good situation in the first with Bobby [Lecount] hitting a shot in the first and we just didn’t look back from there,” head coach Rocky Ward said.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team lost an offensive battle to UT-Arlington, 13-11, on Sunday afternoon at Presley Askew Field. The team’s combined 24 runs came on a combined 32 hits, 18 for Arlington and 14 for NM State.

The Aggies fall to 24-21 on the season while the Mavericks improve to 24-20. NM State now sits at .500, 9-9, in WAC play. Arlington, meanwhile, jumps into a tie for first place in the conference at 12-6.

The top third of the Aggie lineup, right fielder Michael Medina, left fielder Quinnton Mack and catcher Tanner Rust, each went 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Senior center fielder Kyle Phillips also went 2-for-4, including hitting his fifth home run of the season and his second triple. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team bounced back and run-ruled UT- Arlington 11-1 in seven innings at Presley Askew Field, Saturday, April 27. The Aggies are now 24-20 on the year and 9-8 in Western Athletic Conference play. UTA falls to 23-20 and 11-6 in conference play.

Senior starter Ryan Beck threw a complete-game three hitter as he allowed just one run to go along with eight strikeouts. This is the second time this season Beck has posted at least 8 K’s in a game after he tallied 10 strikeouts against Alabama A&M on March 16. Beck also has 67 strikeouts on the year and 289 on his career, placing him just one strikeout behind former Aggie Jaime Mendes (1992-95) for the No. 2 spot on the all-time strikeout list at NM State. ,strong>LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State baseball team dropped its series opener versus UT-Arlington, 9-5, Friday night at Presley Askew Field. The loss drops the Aggies to 23-20 overall and 8-8 in WAC play. The Mavericks improve to 23-19 and 11-5 in the WAC.

NM State equaled Arlington with 10 hits and had only one error to the Maverick’s two. But while Arlington capitalized on its scoring chances with timely hits, the Aggies struggled with men on base, finishing with a total of nine runners left on base.

NM State’s 1-2 hitters in the lineup, right fielder Michael Medina and second baseman Kent Blackstone, both went 2-for-5 on the night. Medina also finished with two RBIs to lead the Aggies.

On the mound, Aggie right-hander Adam Mott suffered his fourth loss of the season after putting in over six innings of work. Mott, who struck out eight batters while only walking two, now stands at 5-4 for the season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

RUSTON, LA - The New Mexico State baseball team (22-18) moved above .500 in Western Athletic Conference play after defeating Louisiana Tech 5-1 in game one of a doubleheader at J.C. Love Field in Ruston, La., Sunday, April 21. The Aggies are now 8-7 in WAC play.

NM State scored its five runs on nine hits as the Aggie defense played clean baseball without committing an error. The Bulldogs tallied one run on nine hits and left multiple runners on base. Starting pitcher Ryan Beck earned the win after he worked 6.0 innings and allowed just one run. He is now 5-3 on the year with 60 K’s on the year.
