NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader In El Paso

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team split a pair of contests during the UTEP Tournament at the Helen of Troy Field on Saturday. NM State took down Idaho State 8-3 but fell to Portland State 6-5.

"Today we learned about battling back," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Both Idaho State and Portland State came to play today. I tip my hat to Portland State. Hopefully this is going to give us experience we need to play every single day. I'm proud of the girls, we battled but we just battled too late."

GAME ONE

The offense got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first when Kelsey Horton doubled down the left field line with a pair of outs on the board. Victoria Castro followed the junior with a home run over the fence in centerfield, giving the Aggies a 2-0 advantage.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Wins A Pair On Day One At UTEP Tournament

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team went undefeated during the first day of the UTEP Tournament at the Helen of Troy Field on Friday. The Aggies opened the tournament by taking down Portland State 7-3 and Idaho State 18-0. NM State tallied six home runs between the two games including a grand slam by sophomore Shelby Shultes.

GAME ONE

Kayla Green earned the start in the circle for New Mexico State (6-3). The junior struggled after hitting a Viking batter with one out in the opening inning. A two-out double by Portland State (1-4) brought the runner home and the Aggies trailed 1-0 heading into their first at bat. However, NM State quickly overcame the deficit in the bottom of the inning when Fahren Glackin hit her first home run of the season, tying the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Downs UTEP 8-5 In Battle Of I-10

EL PASO, TX - New Mexico State softball took down UTEP at the Helen of Troy Field on Tuesday. Sophomore Nikki Butler hit her first home run of the season in the team's 8-5 victory.

"Tonight was a great competitive win that included great performances in the circle by both Kayla and Samaria," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "I feel like Nikki really stepped up for us today. NMSU Softball Beats Boston 2-1 To Close Out Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball closed the Troy Cox Classic with a win over Boston University at the NM State Softball Complex on Sunday. Kelsey Horton hit her second home run of the season in the team's 2-1 victory

"It was a great win for us today. It was a good rebound from a very short night and we had multiple contributions by multiple people, which strengthens us as a team," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "We had strong performances in the circle by both pitchers. I liked that Kelsey led off the game with a home run followed by a double by Rachel. NMSU Softball Drops A Pair At Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball opened the Troy Cox Classic with a pair of loses at the NM State Softball Complex on Saturday. The Aggies fell to Ball State 3-2 and No. 1 Oklahoma 2-0 in tournament action.

"We had some great battles today but we need to make sure we stay true to our approach and continue to attack in the ways that we practice," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "We need multiple contributions from everyone. No load is too heavy if everyone lifts."

NMSU Softball Drops Series Finale With No. 17/13 Kentucky

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball fell to No. 17 Kentucky in the series finale on Sunday at the NM State Softball Complex. Despite taking an early lead in the second inning, NM State fell to the Wildcats 10-2.

"Overall, I think it was a great weekend. Having the opportunity to play a top-ranked team gave us the chance to evaluate where we are and where we want to be," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "I believe we did a lot of things right this weekend. The series gave us the opportunity to identify some things that we need to work on before we play again but I'm very proud of the overall effort from our team this weekend. NMSU Softball Upsets No. 17 Kentucky To Open 2018 Season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team started the season on a high note when the Aggies took down No. 17 Kentucky 12-9 and 10-6 at the NM State Softball Complex to open the season.

"I really challenged to team to come out, be who we are and play hard," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "We got great contributions both offensively and defensively. I liked the looks I got from the pitchers in the circle. We've got a good mix of a staff. Not only was our short game good tonight but out power hitters came out and did what we hoped they would do with the runners on base. It was a great start and we know it's back to work tomorrow."

NMSU Softball Falls To Saint Francis In NCAA Regional; Season Comes To A Close

TUCSON, AZ - New Mexico State softball fell to Saint Francis (Pa,) 8-4 on Saturday, ending NM State's postseason run. The Aggies finished the season with a 29-25 overall record.

How it happened

NM State came out hot in the top of the first when Kelsey Horton and Victoria Castro reached with one out in the inning. Fahren Glackin brought in the first run of the game with a single up the middle. After Caity Szczesny was hit by a pitch, Kaitlyn Rubio and Haley Nakamura hit back-to-back singles, giving New Mexico State a 4-0 advantage.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Claims 2017 WAC Tournament Championship

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - It was quite the Championship Saturday for New Mexico State softball. The Aggies defeated the Seattle U in walk off fashion, 15-14 before shutting out the Redhawks 10-0 to claim the Western Athletic Conference Championship. Victoria Castro, Samaria Diaz, Misty Hoohuli and Rachel Rodriguez earned All-Tournament honors with Rodriguez winning the coveted Most Valuable Player award.

Game One

NMSU Softball Defeats CSU Bakersfield 7-2 In WAC Tourney Opener

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State won a thriller to open the 2017 WAC Softball Tournament. The Aggies scored six runs in the sixth to defeat CSU Bakersfield 7-2. Kelsey Horton hit her second grand slam of the season in the victory.

How it happened

Kayla Green earned the start in the circle for NM State but hit trouble early when she hit the first batter she faced. After the Aggies recorded their first out of the game, Green gave up a home run to Jo Larios, giving CSUB an early 2-0 lead.

Rachel Rodriguez tripled to start NM State's at-bat in the first inning. Haley Nakamura followed the junior by grounding out to second base. Rodriguez came home on the play, cutting the Aggies deficit in half.  Continue Reading This Post >>
