NMSU Softball Defeats GCU 4-2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball welcomed Grand Canyon for a Western Athletic Conference series at the NM State Softball Complex on Friday. Shelby Shultes hit a walk-off homer, helping the Aggies take down the Lopes 4-2 in the series opener. Kelsey Horton also broke the program's career home run record in the victory.

NM State (22-18, 5-5 WAC) got off to a hot start when Jeanelle Medina began the team's at-bat with a single. Horton followed by hitting a two-run homer off the GCU (26-18, 8-2 WAC) pitcher, the 65th homer of Horton's career, giving NM State the 2-0 lead.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Falls 3-2 At Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES, CA - New Mexico State softball faced Loyola Marymount at Smith Field on Monday afternoon. The Aggies fell to the Lions 3-2 to close their Golden State road trip.

NM State (21-18) fell behind early when starting pitcher Samaria Diaz hit a batter before a home run over the fence in left center field put LMU (28-16) ahead by a pair in the second inning. After hitting another batter, the junior surrendered a double, scoring the third run for Loyola Marymount.

Still trailing 3-0 in the fifth, New Mexico State began a rally when Jeanelle Medina hit a double with a pair of outs on the board. Kelsey Horton followed the junior with an RBI triple, scoring the first NM State run of the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader at Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, CA - New Mexico State softball closed out the series with California Baptist at the John C. Funk Stadium on Saturday. The Aggies fell to the Lancers to 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference series finale before coming up with the 3-1 win in the final game of the doubleheader.

GAME ONE
NM State (21-17, 4-5 WAC) starter Samaria Diaz and CBU (18-26, 5-7 WAC) pitcher Kellye Springstead went back-and-forth with each pitcher posting four scoreless innings to start the contest.

The Aggies went scoreless in the top of the fifth but in the bottom of the frame, Diaz allowed a double with one out on the board and head coach Kathy Rodolph brought in Kayla Green to the circle. NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader at Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE, CA - New Mexico State softball opened its series against California Baptist with a doubleheader at John C. Funk Stadium on Friday. The Aggies fell to the Lancers 5-2 in the series opener but took the second game 3-1.

GAME ONE
NM State (20-16, 4-4 WAC) starting pitcher Samaria Diaz pitched a pair of scoreless innings before hitting trouble when CBU (17-25, 4-7 WAC) posted a triple in the third. The junior walked the next batter to put runners on the corners and a sacrifice bunt scored the player from third, putting New Mexico State behind by a run.

In their following at bat, the Aggies rallied with a pair of outs on the board when Mya Felder and Nikki Butler posted back-to-back singles. With runners on the corners, Chloe Rivas hit a shallow single to left field, scoring Felder from third.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Shuts Out Utah Valley 1-0 In Series Opener

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball took on Western Athletic Conference foe Utah Valley at the NM State Softball Complex on Friday. The Aggies topped the Wolverines 1-0 to start the three-game series.

After a pair of scoreless frames, NM State (18-14, 2-2 WAC) rallied with a single by Jeanelle Medina in the third. After Medina stole second, Victoria Castro hit a single out to right field, allowing the junior to come home on the play and giving the Aggies the 1-0 advantage.

With the bats going quiet for the New Mexico State during the next two innings, UVU (11-18, 3-4 WAC) held the momentum in the sixth when starting pitcher Samaria Diaz allowed a pair of singles and a walk, loading the bases without an out recorded. NMSU Softball Dominates UNM In Doubleheader Sweep

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball hosted New Mexico for a doubleheader at the NM State Softball Complex on Tuesday. The Aggies topped the Lobos 8-0 in six innings and 11-3 in five innings.

GAME ONE
After a scoreless opening frame for both teams, NM State (17-14) began a rally with Mya Felder drawing a leadoff walk. Fellow freshman Kayla Bowen reached on an error and a second misstep on the play by UNM (10-26) brought Felder home and allowed Bowen to reach third. After Casie Roberto walked, she stole second and Bowen came home on the play, extending the lead. The third run of the inning came home when the Lobos committed their third error of game during Kelsey Horton's at bat.

In the following frame, Chloe Rivas picked up a leadoff walk before Felder crushed her fourth home run of the season, putting the Aggies ahead 5-0.  Continue Reading This Post >>

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team faced UTEP in a doubleheader at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex on Tuesday. The Aggies topped the Miners 12-4 in the first game but fell 11-3 in five innings in the following contest.

After a scoreless first for both squads, NM State (11-12) got on the board first when Kennedy Johnson sent a ball over the left center fence. NMSU Softball Falls To No. 12 Arizona In Doubleheader

LAS CRCUES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball hosted No. 12 Arizona at the NM State Softball Complex in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Aggies fell to the Wildcats 11-3 in the first contest and 11-1 in the second game.

GAME ONE

NM State (9-7) got behind early when starting pitcher Samaria Diaz walked three UA (17-5) batters before giving up a single to score a run. A walk and a hit batter brought in two more for Arizona, leaving the team trailing 3-0 before its first at bat. However, the Aggies countered the momentum swing with a leadoff home run by Kelsey Horton, her fifth long ball of the season.

New Mexico State saw trouble again in the top of the second when UA hit a long ball out over the left center fence. The momentum stayed with the Wildcats heading into the third when the Aggies allowed four runs on five hits in the top of the frame.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Falls To Ohio State To Close Out Mary Nutter Classic

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA - New Mexico State softball closed out the Mary Nutter Classic with a contest against Ohio State on Sunday morning. The Aggies fell to the Buckeyes 5-1 in the tournament finale.

How It Happened
NM State (9-5) got behind early when starting pitcher Samaria Diaz gave up a solo home run over the centerfield fence to Ohio State (8-4). After an easy second that included a pair of strikeouts for the junior, Diaz fell into trouble during the third when the Buckeyes loaded the bases with a single, a walk and a hit batter. NMSU Softball Spits A Pair Of Games On Day Two At Mary Nutter Classic

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA - New Mexico State softball continued the Mary Nutter Classic with games against California and Missouri on Saturday. The Aggies topped the Bears 6-5 in 10 innings but were unable to produce a hit against the Tigers, falling 15-0 in just five innings..

NM State (9-4) fell behind early when a single and a double led to the Cal (7-7) bringing home a run in the bottom of the third. In the top of the next frame, the Aggies countered with a rally when Kayla Bowen posted a two-out double to centerfield.
