Aggie Softball Caps Perfect Weekend With 8-0 Victory Over Incarnate Word

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team swept the UTEP Invitational with five-straight wins after beating the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Sunday Feb. 23, 8-0 forcing a run rule in the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk-off double by junior Staci Rodriguez. The Aggies improve to 10-5 this season going on an eight game winning streak.

“Our main goal today was to see how quickly we could make adjustments and I think we accomplished that,” associate head coach Cat Heifner said. “We made adjustments defensively and in the circle and I am pleased with how we hit the ball also.”

Right-hand pitcher Celisha Walker earned the win after pitching six complete in the circle and allowing two hits by the Cardinals and throwing two strikeouts. Sophomore catcher Tatum Reedy went 2-for-2 on the day and recorded her first homerun of the season to lead off the sixth inning.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Sweeps Saturday Action At UTEP Invitational

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team went 2-0 on the day at the UTEP Invitational, defeating Houston Baptist 5-3 and then coming back for an 11-run fourth inning to beat Incarnate Word 11-2. The Aggies extend to a seven-game winning streak and improve to 9-5 this season.

“I thought we played well today. It was great to see contributions for several players,” associate head coach Cat Heifner said. “The contributions were key for us too. Fiana (Fianu) was big at the plate in the first game and Susie (Chandler) came up great off the bench in the second game. It was overall a good day.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Win A Pair Of Games On Day One Of UTEP Invitational

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team earned two victories at the UTEP Invitational, defeating Incarnate Word 16-2 in five innings and Houston Baptist 8-3 on Friday, Feb. 21. The Aggies improved to 7-5 on the season and sit on a five-game winning streak.

The Aggies had three homeruns on the day and finished with 23 hits. The pitching staff combined for seven strikeouts and sophomore Makayla McAdams picked up her fourth win of the season, pitching four full innings against Houston Baptist.

“We did what we needed to do in the circle,” associate head coach Cat Heifner said. “Defensively, we played strong and we did well offensively. We got contributions from all parts of the lineup. We did a good job and did what we needed to do.”

The Aggies opened up the scoring early as they scored 10 runs on six hits in the top of the first inning against Incarnate Word.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Softball Rallies To Beat Texas Tech 8-6

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A rally in the bottom of the sixth inning pushed the New Mexico State softball team to an 8-6 win over Texas Tech on Sunday, Feb. 16, to conclude the 24th Annual Troy Cox Classic. NM State had not defeated Texas Tech since its NCAA Tournament berth in 2011 when the Aggies run-ruled the Red Raiders at Regionals. The Aggies are now 5-5 on the season after going 3-2 in the tournament.

“I feel like we started off the weekend pretty rough,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said, “We just were not playing Aggie Softball. By the end of the weekend, we were playing much more aggressively and we were much closer to being the team that I know we can be.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Wins A Pair On Saturday

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team went 2-0 on day two of the Troy Cox Classic with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-3 win over Northern Colorado and a walk-off single RBI for a 5-4 win over Iowa State. NM State improves to 4-5 on the season.

The Aggies got 23 hits on the day with 12 against Northern Colorado and 11 versus Iowa State. Sophomore third baseman Emma Adams went 3-for-3 in game one, while senior catcher Alyssa Ruiz went 2-3 in game two for the Aggies.

In the first game for the Aggies, it took until the fifth inning for either team to plate a run. UNC scored first with two in the top of the fifth. Two base hits and a fielding error scored two, but the Aggies stranded three Bears on base to end the inning.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Drops First Two Game Of Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State NM State dropped two games on the opening day of the Troy Cox Classic on Friday, Feb. 14. NM State fell 5-0 to Texas A&M Corpus Christi and then was upended by Iowa State 13-3. The Aggies move to 2-5 on the season.

In game one, the Aggies sent the Islanders away in order in the first two innings, but a fielding error at third let Texas A&M Corpus Christi score the first run after two runners reached on a pair of singles.

NM State was sent away in order in the third before allowing the Islanders to score two in the top of the fourth. Senior righthander Celisha Walker gave up a double before letting the Islanders plate two on a homerun before junior Nikki Diaz came into the circle to get the Aggies out of the inning.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Splits On Opening Day

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team split its two games on opening day of the 2014 season during the Hotel Encanto Invitational on Friday, Feb. 7. The Aggies opened with an 11-0 loss to No. 15/12 Florida State in five innings and came back for a 6-4 win over Saint Mary’s to close the day.

“I think it was a good learning day for us,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “We gave up more walks than we would have liked in the first game, but kind of got our feet back under us in the second. We are looking forward to tomorrow. This weekend is all about learning and growing and finding out who we are as a team.”

Sophomore Makayla McAdams led the Aggie pitching staff with four strikeouts in five innings, while the four hurlers combined for eight in the two games. Sophomore Fiana Finau went 2-for-3 with a home run and a single. The team finished the day with a total of nine hits and five RBI.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall To San Jose State 4-0 In WAC Championship Game

RUSTON, LA - The New Mexico State softball fell in the 2013 edition of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship game with a 4-0 final score to the San Jose State Spartans on Saturday, May 11. The Aggies finish the season with a 37-20 overall record.

A tough day at the plate for the Aggies ended with just one Aggie hit off the bat of Staci Rodriguez. Freshman pitcher Makayla McAdams took the loss for the Aggies as she pitched just 0.2 innings but gave up the initial two SJSU runs.

“I am extremely proud of this team and the way they played all year,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “It is always disappointing to end the season like this, but I cannot be more pleased with the way this team worked and grew every day this season.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Defeat Texas State 3-1; Face San Jose State In WAC Title Game

RUSTON, LA - A 3-1 win over the Texas State Bobcats on Friday evening, May 10, the New Mexico State softball team advances to the final round of the 2031 Western Athletic Conference Tournament. That game is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday, May 11. The Aggies must play and beat the No. 1 San Jose Spartans twice in order to claim the tournament title and advance to the NCAA Regional.

Senior pitcher Alex Newman moves to the top of the Aggie record books for most wins in a single season with her 24th this season. She also holds the second-place spot with 23 wins from the 2011 season.

NM State ended the game with three runs off just four hits. Three Aggies walked on base and Newman worked for her 17th complete game this season by going the distance and allowing six hits on the night for the Bobcats.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Shut Out Louisiana Tech To Advance To WAC Tournament Semifinals

RUSTON, LA - The New Mexico State softball team picked up a 3-0 win over the No. 3 seed Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech on Thursday afternoon to advance to semifinals of the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Tournament. The No. 2 seeded Aggies are set to face the No. 1 seed San Jose State Spartans on Friday, May 10, at 1 p.m.

The Aggies finished the day with 10 hits and three runs. Three of those hits came off the bat of senior Amber Olive, who went 3-for-4 on the day with one RBI. Sophomore Kelsey Dodd went 3-for-3 on the win with a walk.

Senior hurler Alex Newman pitched her 16th complete game of the season for shutout No. 6 this year. She recorded two strikeouts and allowed just three hits.  Continue Reading This Post >>
