Aggie Softball Defeats UT-Arlington 5-1; Win Streak Extends To Eight Games

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Two big innings in the middle of the game led the New Mexico State softball team to a 5-1 win in the series opener against Western Athletic Conference opponent UT Arlington on Friday, April 5.

The Aggies improve to 24-13 on the season and 6-1 in conference play with their eighth consecutive win.

“I think Alex (Newman) did a great job staying in the game and doing what needed to be done in the circle,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I think that she kept us in the game until we were able to pick it up offensively and then Emma (Adams) and Kelsey (Dodd) came up with some key hits for us. I think it was a great way to start the series, and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”

Newman went the distance in the circle with just four hits allowed and only one unearned run on the day. She had two strikeouts and did not allow a single walk to her 26 batters faced. Newman improves her pitching record to 12-8 this season with her eighth complete game this season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Shut Out USU 4-0, Sweep Conference Series

LOGAN, UT - The New Mexico State softball team swept the final game of its first Western Athletic Conference Road series with a 3-0 win over the Utah State Aggies on Saturday, March 30. The crimson Aggies improve to 23-13 on the season and 5-1 in WAC play. NM State knocks USU down to 5-28 this season.

The Aggies finished the game with 10 hits and three runs with three RBI and two stolen bases. Freshman Makayla McAdams went the distance in the circle with six hits allowed and not a single run or walk.

“It was really nice to come out and sweep our first conference series on the road,” head coach Katy Rodolph said. “We had a lot of contributions from a lot of people this weekend and that is what we like to see at this point in the season.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Sweeps Doubleheader At Utah State

LOGAN, UT - The New Mexico State softball team worked for its first two road wins in Western Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon, March 29, as the Aggies hit five home runs in the two games for a 5-2 win in game one and capped off the double bill with a 17-6 win over USU.
NM State finished the day with 26 hits and a combined four stolen bases.

Both Aggie teams took a slow start in game one with the first seven innings staying scoreless. The Aggies did work for five hits through the seven rounds, but it took until the first extra inning to make some noise.

With the teams scoreless through the first seven innings of play, the Aggies put two on base with a fielding error by Utah State and a bunt single by senior Amber Olive. With two outs, senior Teresa Conrad came to the plate to smack a three-run home run over the left field wall to give NM State a 3-0 lead over the blue Aggies.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Doubleheader Against Louisiana Tech, Improve To 2-1 In WAC Play

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Five home runs in two games by the New Mexico State softball team lifted the Aggies past Louisiana Tech 11-3 in game one of the doubleheader and 9-7 in the nightcap. The Aggies swept the day and claim the series 2-1. NM State moves to 18-13 on the season and 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

With the Lady Techsters ahead in the series with a win on Friday evening, NM State came back for a run-rule 11-3 win in the first of a doubleheader.

La Tech lit up the board first with two unearned runs off a single and sacrifice bunt in the top of the first. The Aggies got things started early as well, with a grand slam by sophomore Kelsey Dodd. Aggies Shut Out Lobos 2-0, Win Season Series

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - In the final game of the Rio Grande Rivalry Series, the New Mexico State softball team worked for a 2-0 win over the New Mexico Lobos on Tuesday, March 19. The Aggies take the rivalry series 2-1 and move to 16-12 on the season.

The Aggies picked up two runs off five hits and held the Lobos to just three hits on the day. In the circle, junior Celisha Walker went 2.2 innings without allowing a hit. She had just one walk before senior Alex Newman came in to close out the game and pick up her eighth win of the season. Aggies Upended By No. 21 Nebraska In Doubleheader

LINCOLN, NE - The New Mexico State softball team fell in game one 4-1 in extra innings and 8-0 in game two on March 15, to the No. 21 Nebraska Huskers on Friday afternoon.
NM State battled the Huskers to 10 innings in game one before a three-run home run capped the 4-1 loss for the Aggies. Game two came in just five innings as the Aggies worked for two hits, but Nebraska was able to pick up eight runs for an 8-0 win over NM State.

“I am very proud of the battle in game one. We worked hard through the extra innings,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “Nebraska came out really tough in game two, but I think we are making improvements and we just need to work on keeping our momentum and fighting hard in tough situations. Aggie Softball Splits A Pair In Tempe

TEMPE, AZ - After rain and hail washed out the first day of the Diamond Devil Invitational on Friday, the New Mexico State Aggies took back to Farrington Stadium on the Arizona State campus for a 4-2 win over the UC Davis Aggies, but then dropped 2-1 to the Notre Dame Irish on Saturday, March 9. The Aggies move to 15-8 on the season and 1-1 in the tournament.

“It was good to finally get back on the field after the weather delay yesterday,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I thought we did a great job sticking to the game plan that we laid out yesterday and we brought a lot of energy and we had a good team effort in game one.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Final Day In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – The New Mexico State softball team finished the final day of the Eller Media Stadium Classic with two wins on the day. The Aggies move to 13-7 on the season with a 2-0 win over Weber State and a 5-3 win over host UNLV on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Amber Olive went 3-for-7 on the day with two runs and two RBI. She helped the Aggies with a stolen base and 11 fielding assists on the game.

“I thought it was a good team effort,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “It’s hard to come back and play a team on its home field on the last day of the tournament, but I thought we got better this weekend and had great contributions. The competition will continue to get stronger and stronger, and we just need to prepare and get ready for that.”

Aggie Softball Picks Up A Pair Of Victories In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV - Junior Celisha Walker pitched the Aggies to a 4-0 win over the Weber State Wildcats on day two of the Eller Media Stadium Classic on Saturday, March 2. NM State is 11-7 on the season.

Walker worked her first complete game this season and picked up her first win in the circle with three strikeouts and no runs allowed off three hits. She had a stellar 48 strikes in 53 total pitches in the circle. The Aggies finished the game with four runs on six hits and three stolen bases.

“I thought that Celisha did a great job in the circle,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “Her poise and the defense behind her gave us an opportunity to make some great offensive plays. Aggies Fall To Cal State-Northridge 4-3

LAS VEGAS, NV - The New Mexico state softball team fell 4-3 to Cal State Northridge on Friday afternoon, March 1, in the second game of the Eller Media Stadium Classic at UNLV. The Aggies went 0-2 on the day and move to 10-7 on the season.

Senior Alex Newman put in 6.1 innings of work in the circle with five strikeouts, but allowed three of the Matadors’ runs across the plate to earn the loss and move to 6-4 in the circle.

“We just had too many errors and too many missed opportunities today,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “We need to just come out and work harder tomorrow.”
