Aggies Drop Doubleheader At San Jose State

SAN JOSE, CA - The New Mexico State softball team fell 2-1 and 5-2 in the final doubleheader of the regular season to the San Jose State Spartans on Saturday, May 4. The Aggies and the Spartans battled in two games for the Western Athletic Conference regular season title, and NM State dropped game one 2-1 in eight innings before SJSU claimed the 5-2 win in game two.

The Aggies (35-18, 16-4 WAC) head into the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed, while SJSU claims the regular season title and sits at the top of the bracket going into the Louisiana Tech hosted tournament in Ruston, La.

NM State had 14 hits on the day with a home run in game two by freshman standout Emma Adams, but only three runs scores for the Aggies on the day.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Fall At San Jose State, 2-1

SAN JOSE, CA - A battle of the pitchers ended with the New Mexico State softball team falling 2-1 to the San Jose State Spartans on Friday evening, May 3, in a Western Athletic Conference battle.

The Aggies move to 35-16 on the season and 16-3 in WAC play. Senior hurler Alex Newman worked her 14th complete game of the season with three strikeouts and not a single earned run. NM State opened the game with a solo home run by sophomore transfer Lacey Rother, marking her fourth home run of the season.

“We came out here expecting a battle and that’s what we got from San Jose State,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I think it was a solid effort from us. Lacey (Rother) came up with a key hit when we needed it and gave us a spark and Alex (Newman) pitched very well for us in the circle today. Aggies Sweep Doubleheader Against Seattle; Conrad Hits Walk-Off Home Run In Game Two

Teresa ConradLAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team battled for a two-game sweep over the third-place Seattle Redhawks on Saturday, April, 27, in a Western Athletic Conference battle. The Senior Weekend doubleheader ended with a 2-0 win in game one and a late-inning rally in game two for a 9-7 win to sweep the series.

Senior Teresa Conrad broke out with a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift NM State to a 9-7 win over the Redhawks after sophomore Staci Rodriguez hit two three-RBI bombs in the game.

“I am extremely proud of this team and how they came out and battled,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “It ended up being an outstanding Senior Weekend for our team and our seniors really proved to be great leaders for this team, great ambassadors to New Mexico State University and I am very proud.”

NM State finished game one with a fifth-inning two-RBI single by Kelsey Dodd after both teams were scoreless through the first four and a half innings.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Shut Out SeattleU 8-0 In Six Innings

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A powerful first inning lifted the New Mexico State softball team to an 8-0 win over the Seattle U Redhawks in six innings on Friday evening, April 26. NM State improves to 33-15 this season and 14-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Sophomore Staci Rodriguez hit her 18th home run of the year, claiming the second spot in the Aggie record books for home runs in a single season. She finished the day going 3-for-3 with two singles and two RBI. The Aggies finished the day with nine hits and eight runs. Five Aggies walked their way on base and the NM State defense held five Seattle U runners on base.

Fellow sophomore Malena Padilla was 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the first and a two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. Padilla now has six doubles under her belt this season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Defeat Bobcats 3-2 In Extra Innings, Take Series 2-1.

- Finishing the weekend 2-1, the New Mexico state softball team defeated the Texas State Bobcats 3-2 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon, April 20, at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas. NM State now sits on a 32-15 record with a 13-2 record in Western athletic Conference play.

A solo home run by Malena Padilla, a single by sophomore Staci Rodriguez and four singles in the top of the eighth inning made the difference for the Aggies to win their 12th conference game this season.

Senior Alex Newman worked the first five innings in the circle with two strikeouts and just two walks. She allowed one earned run before freshman Makayla McAdams came in to finish the game with three complete innings and three strikeouts. Aggie Softball Splits Doubleheader With Texas State

SAN MARCOS, TX - The New Mexico State Aggies split the doubleheader on Friday evening against the Texas State Bobcats with a 1-0 win in game one and a 5-4 loss in the second game of the day. NM State moves to 31-15 this season and 12-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.

The day was highlighted by a nine-inning battle in game one and a grand slam by sophomore Staci Rodriguez in game two. The Aggie finished the day with 11 hits on the day, five in the first game and six in the second of the double bill.

“Today was definitely a battle in both games,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I thought Alex (Newman) pitched well in the first game and the defense did a great job behind both our pitchers today. I would have liked to see our offense step up a little sooner, but that grand slam by Staci was key for us in game two.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Sweep Roadrunners; Remain In First Place

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Notching its third straight sweep in Western Athletic Conference play, the New Mexico State softball team worked for a 7-1 win over UTSA on Saturday afternoon, April 13, and came back in game two for a late-inning home run by sophomore Staci Rodriguez to beat the Roadrunners 3-2. NM State improves to 30-14 this season and 11-1 in WAC play with the wins.

Freshman catcher Tatum Reedy finished the day going 2-for-3 with one run of her own and two RBI. She hit her first home run as an Aggie in game one, helping the Aggies to the 7-1 win. Aggies Split Doubleheader With No. 17 Arizona

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball rattled the nationally-ranked Wildcats of Arizona in game one of the doubleheader with a come from behind 3-2 win on Tuesday afternoon, April 9. The Aggies then dropped game two 8-1 to split the series for the second straight year.

NM State set a new school record with its 11th straight victory for the longest winning streak in program history after defeating the 17th-ranked Wildcats.

“I thought we played well overall today and we did some great things,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “Alex (Newman) pitched well for us in game one and then came back and helped out in game two. Emma Adams really stepped up and got the key hit for us when we needed it.”

The Aggies were led in game one by Adams, who smashed her third home run of the season in the sixth inning to lift NM State to the 3-2 win.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Wins Twice In Extra Innings, Sweeps Series With UT-Arlington

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A 12 inning game one and walk-off double in the eighth inning of game two gave the New Mexico State softball team a 3-2 and 6-5 win over the UT Arlington Mavericks in the Saturday, April 6 doubleheader at the NM State Softball Complex.

NM State improves to 8-1 in Western Athletic Conference play and 26-13 overall on the season and are riding a 10-game winning streak that includes eight conference games. UT Arlington drops to 2-7 in conference and 17-19 overall.

The Aggies finished the 20-inning day with a total of five hits in game one and eight in game two. Senior Amber Olive went 5-for-9 on the day with two singles and a triple in game one, helped the Aggies to an extra inning 3-2 win over the Mavs. She came back in game two for an RBI single and stolen base that aided in NM State taking the initial 1-0 lead over UTA.  Continue Reading This Post >>
