Aggie Softball Falls 6-1 To DePaul In Tournament Opener

LAS VEGAS, NV - An early home run gave DePaul a 6-1 advantage over the New Mexico State softball team in the opening game of the weekend at the Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., on Friday morning. The Aggies worked for six hits on the game with one run and one RBI and move to 10-6 on the season.

Sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe (3-1) started in the circle for the Aggies and went two complete innings while giving up five of the Blue Devil runs to suffer her first loss of the season. She pitched three strikeouts and just one walk in the game. Junior Celisha Walker came in for the remaining four innings to finish the game with four strikeouts and just one unearned run allowed.

“DePaul is a great team and they just got on our heels a bit early today,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I thought we battled back and our defense made some great stops. With each batter, we continued to get better.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Teresa Conrad Named WAC Hitter Of The Week

DENVER, CO – New Mexico State’s Teresa Conrad has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for Feb. 18-24. This is the first-ever honor for Conrad.

Conrad, a senior utility player from Los Angeles, led the Aggies at the plate last week with a .600 batting average, an .800 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage. She had a hit in all four games, with two doubles, three runs scored, one RBI and three walks. Conrad had two multi-hit games and reached base each of her four times at the plate against rival UTEP.

Aggies Fall To Lobos 10-9

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After taking the early lead in the first inning, the New Mexico State Aggies fell 10-9 to the New Mexico Lobos in the second edition of the Battle of I-25 on Tuesday afternoon at the NM State Softball Complex.

Senior Teresa Conrad led the Aggies in the rivalry game by going 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI and a run of her own in the third inning. Fellow senior Tehani Kaaihue boasted three RBI in the loss and reached base four times, twice on a fielder's choice once on an error and a single to right in the final inning of the night.

"Rivalry games are always a challenge. UNM is a good team and they played hard tonight," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "I feel like we gave up too many opportunities tonight and that is something we will be working on before the weekend."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Split A Pair On Final Day Of Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team split on the final day of the Troy Cox Classic with a 9-2 win over Colorado State in the first game of the day and a 5-3 loss to Texas tech in extra innings on Sunday afternoon at the NM State Softball Complex. The Red Raiders broke up a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning courtesy of the international tiebreaker rule that placed a runner at second to start the eighth inning.

On the day, the Aggies tallied 20 total hits between the two games as Malena Padilla and Staci Rodriguez each picked up four in the double bill. The Aggies are now 7-4 on the season, while finishing the Troy Cox Classic 3-3.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Drop A Pair On Day Two Of Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball team dropped two games on the second day of the Troy Cox Classic on Saturday, Feb. 16, with a 10-2 loss to Penn State and a 10-9 loss to Colorado State in back-to-back games.

The Aggies tallied a walk and a hit for an RBI at the bat of Lacey Rother with a shot out to right field to bring in Staci Rodriguez for the first Aggies run of the day against Penn State. Rother went 2-for-5 on the day, but it was senior Amber Olive that went 4-for-7 with four hits and a RBI over the two games.

“We came out a little flat today and need to learn to come out ready for every game,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I’m happy with our battle in the CSU game, and I thought Makayla (McAdams came in and got us some key stops in the circle and allowed our offense to battle.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Sweeps Opening Day Of Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Aggies made a statement on the opening day of the Troy Cox Classic with an 10-1 win over UMKC and a come-from-behind 10-2 win late on Friday evening at the NM State Softball Complex. NM State sits at 6-1 on the season and is on a six-game winning streak.

Senior Tehani Kaaihue went 4-for-5 on the day with four runs and one RBI. Sophomore Lacey Rother led the Aggies with two homeruns in consecutive at bats in the second game of the day and finished her Friday going 2-for-2 with four RBI.

Aggies Rout Miners 7-1

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior pitcher Alex Newman and the New Mexico State Aggies worked their way to a 7-1 win over I-10 rival UTEP after allowing just one run across the plate on the Tuesday evening game at the NM State Softball Complex. The Aggies move to 4-1 on the season with four straight wins before heading into the Aggie hosted Troy Cox Invitational Feb. 15-17.

Newman worked the seven complete innings in the circle for NM State and threw four strikeouts without allowing a base on balls. She moves to 3-1 on the season and sinks her ERA to 0.79. With the work of the Aggie defense behind Newman, UTEP was able to escape with just five hits and one unearned run.

“Alex threw really well for us tonight,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I thought about trying out one of our other pitchers, but she was relaxed in there and did a great job. She was able to finish it out for us.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Shut Out Lobos 3-0

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team picked up its first win over 1- rival New Mexico on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win over the Lobos at the NM State Softball Complex.

The seven-inning battle started with a quick pace for the Aggies as sophomore right-hander Karysta Donisthorpe struck out the first two Lobos she faced in the circle. She finished the game with six strikeouts in her three complete innings for NM State. Combined, the four Aggie hurlers worked for 11 strikeouts on the day while walking just two.

"I truly believe that the strength of this team is our experience in pitching," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "This team is one of the hardest working teams I have ever had and now in preseason, we are trying to figure out what our strengths and weaknesses are before we go into conference, because we expect to make another run for the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) title."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Opens 2013 With Split

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team split its two games on opening day of the 2013 season during the Hotel Encanto Invitational on Friday, Feb. 8. NM State fell to the Nebraska Huskers 5-1 in the first game of the season, but came back for a powerful 8-1 victory over the Illinois-Chicago Flames in the evening game at the NM State Softball Complex.

Game One

In the first game of the 2013 season, the Aggies allowed the Huskers to strike first with a bunt from the lead-off batter. Two hits in the middle of the lineup brought around the run for NU, giving the team the lead over the Aggies.
