NMSU Softball Defeats Rival New Mexico, Rodolph Notches 500th NCAA Win

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico State softball defeated I-25 rival New Mexico on Tuesday. The Aggies defeated the Lobos 7-6 to complete the season sweep of their in-state rivals. It was also head coach Kathy Rodolph's 500th win at the NCAA level.

How it happened

NM State (24-22) struck first in the top of the third when Destiny Blueford started the inning with a bunt single. Jeanelle Medina followed with a single of her own, putting runners on first and second with no outs in the inning. After Rachel Rodriguez advanced the runners on a sacrifice bunt, Blueford scored when Caity Szczesny reached on a fielder's choice. NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader With GCU, Shares WAC Regular Season Title With Lopes

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State split a doubleheader with Grand Canyon on Saturday as the Aggies won the early game 13-5 but fell in the series finale 13-10. Despite losing the series, NM State ended conference play as the Western Athletic Conference Regular Season Co-Champions along with GCU.

Game One

After a scoreless first inning, Grand Canyon (36-15, 11-4) drew first blood as two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs in the inning. Back-to-back singles by Jenna Coates and Madelyn Dowdle gave GCU the 2-0 lead.

The Aggies scored a run of their own in the bottom of the inning as three-straight singles for NM State (23-22, 11-4) loaded the bases. Rachel Rodriguez's keen eye at the plate led to a walk, scoring New Mexico State's first run. NMSU Softball Drops Series Opener With GCU

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Despite scoring seven runs in the fourth inning, New Mexico State softball fell to Grand Canyon 14-8 on Friday.

How it happened
GCU (35-14, 10-3) struck in the top of the first when Kendsey Hill started the game with a single. Laney Gomez followed by reaching on a fielding error by Kayla Green. After Niki Gonzalez reached on a fielder's choice, putting runners on the corners, Megan Stevens hit a sacrifice fly to score the first run of the game. NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader With CSU Bakersfield, Secure No. 1 Seed In WAC Tournament

BAKERSFIELD, CA - New Mexico State softball split a doubleheader with CSU Bakersfield on Saturday as the Aggies lost 7-4 but bounced back against the Roadrunners to take the series finale 13-3.

Game One

After two scoreless innings of play for both teams, Kayla Green hit trouble against CSU Bakersfield (9-30, 2-10) in the third as she gave up a leadoff single to Cydney Curran. A sacrifice bunt and a passed ball advanced Curran to third. Selena Gonzalez hit into a fielder's choice and brought the runner home for the first run of the game. NMSU Softball Defeats CSU Bakersfield In WAC Series Opener

BAKERSFIELD, CA - New Mexico State won the series opener against CSU Bakersfield on Friday as the Aggies defeated the Roadrunners 5-2.

How It Happened
Kelsey Horton got off to a hot start in the first inning as she hit her 11th home run of the season over the left field fence to put the Aggies ahead 1-0.

After a scoreless second inning, NM State had its chance to score again in the third. Rachel Rodriguez got the inning going with a single and followed the play by stealing her 16th base of the season. Fahren Glackin was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. NMSU Softball Falls In Doubleheader To No. Arizona

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State softball fell to No. 3 Arizona in a doubleheader on Tuesday as the Wildcats defeated the Aggies 8-0 and 11-1.

Game One

Kayla Green started in the circle for the Aggies (20-19, 8-1). The sophomore fell behind early as she gave up a home run to Dejah Mulipola for the first run of the game. The homer started a rally for Arizona (43-3, 13-2) as Katiyana Mauga followed Mulipola's homer with a single. After Arizona singled and drew a walk to load the bases, Tamara Statman hit the third Wildcat single of the inning to put Arizona ahead 2-0 in the first.

NMSU Softball Sweeps Doubleheader, Series With UMKC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State cruised past UMKC to complete the sweep of the Roos on Saturday. The Aggies run-ruled UMKC in both their 8-0 and 11-3 victories.

NMSU Softball Takes Series Opener With UMKC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball won its series opener against UMKC on Friday, 5-2. Kelsey Horton and Destiny Blueford each had a home run in the Aggies' victory.

How it happened

NM State (18-17, 6-1) fell behind early as UMKC (13-28, 4-3) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. An error by the Aggies put a on first for the Roos. New Mexico State earned an out on a fielder's choice by Kendra Leach but as Kayla Green walked Bri Sims, runners were on first and second for the Roos. Morgan Byrn scored Leach on a single to give UMKC a 1-0 lead.

NM State stormed back in the bottom of the first as Rachel Rodriguez reached base on an error to start the inning. After Haley Nakamura hit into a fielder's choice, Kelsey Horton hit her eighth homer of the season to put the New Mexico State ahead 2-1.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Takes Series Against Seattle

SEATTLE, WA - New Mexico State softball took the series from Seattle U on Saturday. The Aggies defeated the Redhawks 14-6 before closing out the series with a 6-4 win.

Game Two Continued

Bad weather suspended the second game of the series on Friday night. The continuation of the game began in the bottom of the third inning with one out and Samaria Diaz in the circle. She struck out two-straight batters to complete the inning and maintained the Aggies' 6-2 lead.

NM State's (17-17, 5-1) Haley Nakamura singled to start a five-run rally in the fourth. Fahren Glackin followed Nakamura by hitting her second home run of the season to give the Aggies the 8-4 lead. NMSU Softball Falls In Series Opener At Seattle, Game Two Suspended Due To Weather

SEATTLE, WA - The NM State softball team fell to Seattle U 6-2 in their series opener on Friday. New Mexico State was unable to finish the second game of the doubleheader as play was suspended due to poor weather.

Game One

After a scoreless first inning, NM State (15-17, 3-1) went on the attack with Kelsey Horton hitting a double to center field to start the second inning. Horton advanced to third on a ground ball by Caity Szczesny and was brought home by Amy Bergeson. Bergeson hit a short single to third base to score the run, giving NM State the 1-0 advantage.

Neither team was able to score a run in third inning but the Redhawks (14-22, 3-1) tied the game in the fourth. Madison Cathcart started the inning with a single to center field. Maddy Kristjanson brought the runner home on a triple and tied the game 1-1.  Continue Reading This Post >>
