NMSU Softball Splits A Pair Of Games On Opening Day Of Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball opened the Troy Cox Classic on Friday with games against Texas State and Bradley at the NM State Softball Complex. The Aggies took down the Bobcats 7-4 but came up short against the Braves falling, 4-3.

GAME ONE

NM State (5-1) got off to a hot start against TXST (3-3) when Victoria Castro opened the game with a two-run homer. Nikki Butler followed with a solo blast of her own and Kayla Bowen tallied her first ever collegiate homer, scoring a pair, to give New Mexico State the 5-0 advantage after the opening frame.

Starting pitcher Kayla Green hit trouble in the top of the second, allowing three runs to come in for the opposing Bobcats. However, in the bottom of the inning, Texas State made a critical fielding error that allowed an Aggie run to score and putting the team ahead by three.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Rolls To 9-1 Victory Over Creighton In Tournament Finale

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball closed out the NM State Invitational with a game against Creighton on Sunday. The Aggies picked up its second-straight run rule victory when the team dominated Creighton 9-1 in five innings at the NM State Softball Complex.

How It Happened

NM State (4-0) got off to a hot start offensively, beginning with a two-run home run by Victoria Castro, her third so far this season. NMSU Softball Sweeps Rivals At NM State Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball remained undefeated on Saturday when the team battled New Mexico and UTEP as a part of the NM State Invitational. The Aggies took down the Lobos 9-8 and run-ruled the Miners 12-3 at the NM State Softball Complex.

GAME ONE

Analise De La Roca got the start in the circle and the sophomore struggled early, allowing back-to-back doubles as well as a single to start the contest. Head coach Kathy Rodolph quickly made a change, bringing in senior Kayla Green to manage the damage. NMSU Softball Opens 2019 Season With 11-4 Win Over Creighton

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball opened its 2019 campaign with a battle against Creighton on Friday. Three Aggies hit home runs when the team took down the Bluejays 11-4 at the NM State Softball Complex. It was the fourth-straight season the program recorded a victory to open the year.

How It Happened

After a pair of scoreless innings, a rally for NM State began with a leadoff double by Brandy Hernandez. Following the extra base hit was a two-run home run by Kelsey Horton, giving the Aggies the advantage. NMSU Softball Wins WAC Title

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team closed its run at the 2018 Western Athletic Conference tournament at the NM State Softball Complex with a contest against fourth-seeded Grand Canyon on Saturday. The WAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player Kelsey Horton broke the NM State single-season record for home runs, helping the Aggies secure the 9-7 victory and their second-straight WAC Tournament title.

"I'm extremely proud of our group because everyone has accepted and embraced their role on this team," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Kelsey has led us all year but we've had a lot of contributions. NMSU Softball Advances To WAC Championship Game With 14-3 Rout Of UMKC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team continued its run at the 2018 Western Athletic Conference tournament at the NM State Softball Complex with a contest against sixth-seeded UMKC on Friday. The Aggies took down the Roos 14-3 to advance to their sixth-straight championship game.

"Offensively, the team attacked the situation and did their job," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Analise and Kayla did a phenomenal job in the circle and I think we played pretty clean on defense. We're excited to advance to another championship on Saturday, whoever we're going to play. There is going to be another team in the other dugout and we're going to come out and play."

NM State (28-22, 11-4 WAC) got off to a slow start when starting pitcher Kayla Green allowed a leadoff triple and a single up the middle to Kansas City (15-40, 2-13) to put New Mexico State behind 1-0 in the first.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Run-Rules Grand Canyon 10-2 In Six Innings To Advance In WAC Tournament

- The New Mexico State softball team opened the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Tournament at the NM State Softball Complex with a contest against fourth-seeded Grand Canyon on Thursday. The Aggies hit four home runs against in the 10-2 run-rule victory over the Lopes. Kelsey Horton launched a pair of long balls in the contest, including her 24th of the season, tying the NM State single-season record.

"Kennedy Johnson did a great job as our designated player," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Fahren Glackin absolutely stepped up after GCU made the decision to walk Kelsey (Horton) and that's what we needed her to do. NMSU Softball Falls To No. 8 Arizona State 5-1 In Regular Season Finale

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball closed out the regular season with a single contest at the NM State Softball Complex against No. 8 Arizona State on Tuesday. Victoria Castro recorded her 10th home run of the season but it was not enough as the Aggies fell to the ranked Sun Devils 5-1.

NMSU Softball Claims Fourth Straight WAC Regular Season Title

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball closed out its final Western Athletic Conference series with a doubleheader against Seattle U on Saturday. The Aggies took down Redhawks 9-1 in five innings to start the day and a walk-off grand slam by Kelsey Horton gave the Aggies the 12-2 win in the series finale. By taking the series from Seattle U, New Mexico State claimed their fourth-straight WAC regular-season title and secured the top seed for the 2018 WAC Tournament.

"I'm really proud of the way we simplified things today," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "We were able to rebound from yesterday by not allowing our moments get too big. We realized if we keep our moments simple, we do simple well."

NMSU Softball Drops Series Opener Against Seattle 7-4

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team opened its final Western Athletic Conference series with a contest against Seattle U on Friday night. Kelsey Horton hit a home run in the game but it was not enough as the Aggies fell to the Redhawks 7-4.

Kayla Green earned the start in the circle but after pitching a pair of scoreless innings, the junior hit trouble when SU's (32-19, 10-3 WAC) Madison Cathcart recorded a two-run homer to give the Redhawks a 2-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Horton cut the deficit in half when the junior launched her team-best 19th home run over the centerfield fence. Fahren Glackin and Nikki Butler followed with back-to-back doubles, tying the contest for NM State (24-21, 9-4 WAC).  Continue Reading This Post >>
