Aggie Softball Sweeps Doubleheader At Utah Valley

OREM, UT - The New Mexico State softball team won both games in their doubleheader against Utah Valley on Friday, April 25, in Orem, Utah. The Aggies' record improves to 28-21 and 10-4 in Western Athletic Conference play.

NM State entered the series with Utah Valley having dropped their last five games to Grand Canyon and the University of Arizona.

Sophomore Makayla McAdams got the start in the pitcher's circle for the Aggies in game one of the doubleheader but struggled to find the strike zone early on and made it through two innings before being replaced by senior Celisha Walker in the third inning.

NM State started the game strong by posting the first run of the game in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. The Wolverines answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run that gave them the early 2-1 lead.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Drops A Pair At No. 10 Arizona

TUCSON, AZ - The New Mexico State softball team dropped both games in their double header against the University of Arizona on Wednesday, April 23, in Tucson, Ariz. The Aggies record drops to 26-21 (8-4) on the season.

NM State fell in the first game to the Wildcats by a score of 13-3 in five innings. The team regrouped for game two and though they fell behind early on, they clawed their way back into the game but eventually fell 13-7.

Junior Makayla McAdams got the start in the pitcher's circle for the first game for the Aggies. Redshirt sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe got the start in the second game. Both starters struggled to find the zone early on and paid the price against the Arizona offense. Aggie Softball Loses Series Finale At Grand Canyon 3-2

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State softball team lost a tough matchup to the Grand Canyon Antelopes, 3-2, Saturday afternoon during the series finale at Stapleton-Pierson Field.

The Aggies lost the final two games of the series by a combined three runs to fall to 26-19 on the season and 8-4 in Western Athletic Conference play. The ‘Lopes are 25-17 overall and now lead the WAC by two games over NM State after improving to 10-2 in conference play.

NM State finished the game with five hits while the Aggie pitching tandem of Makayla McAdams and Celisha Walker only allowed four hits. McAdams started the game in the circle for NM State, only allowing two hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Walker also allowed two hits, but was saddled with the loss to fall to 7-6 on the season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Loses Two At Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader Friday April 17 to the Grand Canyon University Antelopes at Stapleton-Pierson Field. The Aggies fell 7-1 in game one before losing a close matchup 2-0 in the nightcap.

NM State went into the doubleheader with a one-game lead over the ‘Lopes in the Western Athletic Conference standings. By nights end the Aggies see themselves at 26-18 overall and 8-3 in WAC play while GCU improves to 24-17 and 9-2 in conference matchups. It is the ‘Lopes that now hold a one-game lead atop the WAC.

The powerful Aggie offense was silenced on Friday as NM State could only muster a total of seven combined hits during both games, four in game one and three in game two. Five total errors, including four by the middle infield, also hampered the Aggie effort.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Shatter WAC Records With 17-2 Win Over Bakersfield

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team scored a record-breaking 17 runs in the first inning on Saturday, April 12 against the Bakersfield Roadrunners to complete the sweep and improve to a 26-16 record this season and stay atop the Western Athletic Conference with an 8-1 record.

Each run was plated in the first inning of the five-inning game with the Runners scoring first. The Aggies’ defense held CSUB to six hits but no earned runs on the day and senior Celisha Walker made the start and pitched five complete for the Aggies. The right-hand pitcher tossed one strikeout and allowed just one walk in the game, while the NM State offense rattled off 12 hits and 15 RBI on the game.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Sweeps Doubleheader With Bakersfield

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team went 2-0 on the Friday, April 11 with a 7-5 win in game one over CSU Bakersfield and then came back for an 8-1 win in game two. The Aggies combined for 27 hits on the day with four home runs and 15 RBI. The team improves to 25-16 on the year and 7-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Leading the day was junior Lacey Rother as she went 5-for-5 with two runs and five RBI. She had a home run in each game and came up with a couple of stellar plays on defense. She also picked up the first intentional walk of the season.

The Aggie pitching staff held things together with sophomore Makayla McAdams and redshirt sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe each earning a win, while senior reliever Celisha Walker earned a save in game one. The trio allowed just three earned runs between the two games.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Earns Series Victory With 8-5 Victory Over UMKC

Kansas City, MO -The New Mexico State softball team wrapped up its road series with the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday, April 5, in Kansas City, Mo., with an 8-5 victory that won the series 2-1. This brings the Aggies’ overall record to 23-16 and 5-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Redshirt sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe got the start for the Aggies in the pitcher’s circle for the finale against UMKC, where she pitched three solid innings surrendering just one earned run and striking out four batters. Sophomore Makayla McAdams entered the game to pitch in the fourth inning but only pitched one inning as she gave up three hits to the six batters she faced. Senior Celisha Walker came in to pitch for the Aggies in the fifth and closed out the game, pitching three full innings and striking out one batter and allowing one run.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Opens WAC Play With 6-1 Win Over Seattle

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team defeated Seattle U 6-1 on Friday, March 28 at the NM State Softball Complex. The Aggies opened Western Athletic Conference play with 11 hits, improving the record to 19-15 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

“I thought it was a solid day for us. We hit the ball pretty well and our defense really stayed on behind our pitchers,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “Our pitching was solid, but I still think this is a series we have to work for. It’s going to be a battle.”

Junior centerfielder Staci Rodriguez went 2-for-3 on the game with a pair of singles. She also plated two of the Aggie runs. Sophomore Emma Adams had the big hit of the night with a solo home run over the centerfield fence to lead off the fifth.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico softball team closed out the three-game series with I-10 rival UTEP on Tuesday, March 25 with a 14-3 win to go 2-1 in the series. NM State Softball Stopped By Colorado State And Fresno State

FRESNO, CA - New Mexico State softball team fell in two separate games on Saturday, March 15. First NM State suffered a 6-2 loss to Colorado State before ending the day with a 6-4 loss to Fresno State at the Fresno State Classic. NM State moves to 17-13 this season.

Junior Lacey Rother ended the day 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI that included a double to right field against the Bulldogs. NM State tallied seven hits in that game and six against the Rams.

Senior right-hander Celisha Walker took the loss in the first game of the day after hurling four complete innings and giving up the six runs for the Rams. In the second game of the day, sophomores Makayla McAdams and Karysta Donisthorpe each threw three innings and gave up three runs, but McAdams took the loss, just her second this season, to move to 6-2 on the year.  Continue Reading This Post >>
