Aggie Softball Earns Series Victory With 8-5 Victory Over UMKC

Kansas City, MO -The New Mexico State softball team wrapped up its road series with the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday, April 5, in Kansas City, Mo., with an 8-5 victory that won the series 2-1. This brings the Aggies’ overall record to 23-16 and 5-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Redshirt sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe got the start for the Aggies in the pitcher’s circle for the finale against UMKC, where she pitched three solid innings surrendering just one earned run and striking out four batters. Sophomore Makayla McAdams entered the game to pitch in the fourth inning but only pitched one inning as she gave up three hits to the six batters she faced. Senior Celisha Walker came in to pitch for the Aggies in the fifth and closed out the game, pitching three full innings and striking out one batter and allowing one run.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Opens WAC Play With 6-1 Win Over Seattle

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team defeated Seattle U 6-1 on Friday, March 28 at the NM State Softball Complex. The Aggies opened Western Athletic Conference play with 11 hits, improving the record to 19-15 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

“I thought it was a solid day for us. We hit the ball pretty well and our defense really stayed on behind our pitchers,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “Our pitching was solid, but I still think this is a series we have to work for. It’s going to be a battle.”

Junior centerfielder Staci Rodriguez went 2-for-3 on the game with a pair of singles. She also plated two of the Aggie runs. Sophomore Emma Adams had the big hit of the night with a solo home run over the centerfield fence to lead off the fifth.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Run-Rules UTEP 14-3

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico softball team closed out the three-game series with I-10 rival UTEP on Tuesday, March 25 with a 14-3 win to go 2-1 in the series. NM State Softball Stopped By Colorado State And Fresno State

FRESNO, CA - New Mexico State softball team fell in two separate games on Saturday, March 15. First NM State suffered a 6-2 loss to Colorado State before ending the day with a 6-4 loss to Fresno State at the Fresno State Classic. NM State moves to 17-13 this season.

Junior Lacey Rother ended the day 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI that included a double to right field against the Bulldogs. NM State tallied seven hits in that game and six against the Rams.

Senior right-hander Celisha Walker took the loss in the first game of the day after hurling four complete innings and giving up the six runs for the Rams. In the second game of the day, sophomores Makayla McAdams and Karysta Donisthorpe each threw three innings and gave up three runs, but McAdams took the loss, just her second this season, to move to 6-2 on the year.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Falls To San Jose State 4-2

SAN JOSE, CA - The New Mexico State softball team got off to an early 2-0 lead, but fell 4-2 to San Jose State on Friday, March 13, to begin a six-game weekend. NM State moves to 15-11 this season and now looks to the Fresno State Classic to continue the weekend.

NM State and SJSU are familiar foes, as the teams met five times in 2013 as Western Athletic Conference rivals. The Spartans, now in the Mountain West Conference, took each of those meetings, resulting in a WAC title.

The Aggies had just two hits on the day with the two runs coming early in the first inning. SJSU compiled seven hits with its four runs all crossing the plate in the fifth.

Freshman Haley Nakamura singled to lead off in the first at-bat for NM State. She was pushed along by an Emma Adams walk. Sophomore Fiana Finau hit a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position before a wild pitch scored Nakamura.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Top UT Arlington With Walk-Off Homerun By Rodriguez

LUBBOCK, TX - While the Aggies finished the game with seven hits, it was two homeruns that were responsible for the 4-3 win over UT Arlington on Sunday, March 9, to close out the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. The Aggies improve to 15-10 this season after going 2-2 in the tournament.

“We had some good, clutch hitting, solid pitching and clean defense this weekend,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “So although our record was 2-2, we got better and the weekend progressed. That gives us much needed momentum for this coming weekend.”

Both teams finished the game with seven hits, but the runs did not come in until the sixth and seventh innings. Senior Alyssa Ruiz and junior Staci Rodriguez hit two homeruns to combine for the four Aggie runs it took to beat UTA. Chandler’s Home Run Lifts Aggies To 3-2 Win Over Northern Colorado

LUBBOCK, TX - The New Mexico State softball team picked up its first win of the weekend at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. The Aggies defeated Northern Colorado 3-2 on Saturday, March 8 to improve to a 14-10 record this season.

Freshman Susie Chandler went 2-for-3 on the day, which included a solo homerun in the fourth to put the Aggies ahead of the Bears after being tied through the first three innings. Sophomore Fiana Finau also has two hits on the day with a pair of singles.

Sophomore Makayla McAdams started I the circle for the Aggies and pitched the first 3.2 innings before senior Celisha Walker came in to finish the game nd pick up her fourth win of the season. Aggie Softball Drops Weekend Opener To UT Arlington

LUBBOCK, TX - The New Mexico State softball team fell 5-3 to UT Arlington in the first game of the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic on Friday morning. NM State finished with six hits on the day, but two big hits by the Mavs was enough to beat the Aggies. NM State continues with a game against host Texas Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Sophomore Emma Adams went 2-for-2 on the game with a pair of singles and a walk. Junior Staci Rodriguez picked up the two RBI for NM State with a two-run double in the fifth, helping NM State to its six hits on the game. UT Arlington also had six hits.

Redshirt sophomore Karysta Donisthorpe started in the circle for NM State and took the loss as she gave up UTA’s five hits in her two innings at work. She moves to a 5-4 record.  Continue Reading This Post >>

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State softball team fell 5-1 to I-10 rival UTEP on Tuesday, March 4. The Aggies gathered six hits on the game, but drop the first game to the Miners since 2010. NM State moves to 13-8 on the season.

Aggies Fall To DePaul 8-1 On Final Day Of Eller Media Stadium Classic

LAS VEGAS, NV - The New Mexico State softball team wrapped up the Eller Media Stadium Classic with a loss on Sunday, March 2, falling 8-1 to DePaul University. The Aggies finished with a 3-2 record for the tournament and their overall record now sits at 13-7.

In Las Vegas, junior Staci Rodriguez found a rhythm early and sustained it as she went 7-10 in five games. She had five homeruns, 10 RBI, scored nine runs and also drew six walks.

Sophomore Fiana Finau also had success at the plate as she went 6-16 with four homeruns and 10 RBI over the weekend.

In the pitcher’s circle senior Celisha Walker found success as a reliever throughout the weekend as she played in four games and earned one save. She pitched 16.1 total innings and struck out seven batters.  Continue Reading This Post >>
