NMSU Softball Wins WAC Title

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team closed its run at the 2018 Western Athletic Conference tournament at the NM State Softball Complex with a contest against fourth-seeded Grand Canyon on Saturday. The WAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player Kelsey Horton broke the NM State single-season record for home runs, helping the Aggies secure the 9-7 victory and their second-straight WAC Tournament title.

"I'm extremely proud of our group because everyone has accepted and embraced their role on this team," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Kelsey has led us all year but we've had a lot of contributions. NMSU Softball Advances To WAC Championship Game With 14-3 Rout Of UMKC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team continued its run at the 2018 Western Athletic Conference tournament at the NM State Softball Complex with a contest against sixth-seeded UMKC on Friday. The Aggies took down the Roos 14-3 to advance to their sixth-straight championship game.

"Offensively, the team attacked the situation and did their job," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Analise and Kayla did a phenomenal job in the circle and I think we played pretty clean on defense. We're excited to advance to another championship on Saturday, whoever we're going to play. There is going to be another team in the other dugout and we're going to come out and play."

NM State (28-22, 11-4 WAC) got off to a slow start when starting pitcher Kayla Green allowed a leadoff triple and a single up the middle to Kansas City (15-40, 2-13) to put New Mexico State behind 1-0 in the first.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Run-Rules Grand Canyon 10-2 In Six Innings To Advance In WAC Tournament

- The New Mexico State softball team opened the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Tournament at the NM State Softball Complex with a contest against fourth-seeded Grand Canyon on Thursday. The Aggies hit four home runs against in the 10-2 run-rule victory over the Lopes. Kelsey Horton launched a pair of long balls in the contest, including her 24th of the season, tying the NM State single-season record.

"Kennedy Johnson did a great job as our designated player," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "Fahren Glackin absolutely stepped up after GCU made the decision to walk Kelsey (Horton) and that's what we needed her to do. NMSU Softball Falls To No. 8 Arizona State 5-1 In Regular Season Finale

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball closed out the regular season with a single contest at the NM State Softball Complex against No. 8 Arizona State on Tuesday. Victoria Castro recorded her 10th home run of the season but it was not enough as the Aggies fell to the ranked Sun Devils 5-1.

"Analise pitched well today," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "She wanted the ball. She came out and did great today. Kelsey and Victoria also did a good job for us. NMSU Softball Claims Fourth Straight WAC Regular Season Title

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball closed out its final Western Athletic Conference series with a doubleheader against Seattle U on Saturday. The Aggies took down Redhawks 9-1 in five innings to start the day and a walk-off grand slam by Kelsey Horton gave the Aggies the 12-2 win in the series finale. By taking the series from Seattle U, New Mexico State claimed their fourth-straight WAC regular-season title and secured the top seed for the 2018 WAC Tournament.

"I'm really proud of the way we simplified things today," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "We were able to rebound from yesterday by not allowing our moments get too big. We realized if we keep our moments simple, we do simple well."

NMSU Softball Drops Series Opener Against Seattle 7-4

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team opened its final Western Athletic Conference series with a contest against Seattle U on Friday night. Kelsey Horton hit a home run in the game but it was not enough as the Aggies fell to the Redhawks 7-4.

Kayla Green earned the start in the circle but after pitching a pair of scoreless innings, the junior hit trouble when SU's (32-19, 10-3 WAC) Madison Cathcart recorded a two-run homer to give the Redhawks a 2-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Horton cut the deficit in half when the junior launched her team-best 19th home run over the centerfield fence. Fahren Glackin and Nikki Butler followed with back-to-back doubles, tying the contest for NM State (24-21, 9-4 WAC).  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader At Utah Valley

OREM, UT - The New Mexico State softball team closed out its series Western Athletic Conference opponent Utah Valley on Saturday from Wolverine Field. NM State evened the series with the 5-3 victory in the opening contest of the doubleheader but fell to the Wolverines 7-6 in the series finale.

GAME ONE

After a scoreless inning for both squads, the Aggies (24-20, 9-3 WAC) fell behind in the bottom of the second when Analise De La Roca allowed a double and a home run to UVU (16-23, 7-4). NMSU Softball Drops Doubleheader At No. 13 Arizona

TUCSON, AZ - The New Mexico State softball team took on No. 13 Arizona in a doubleheader at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on Wednesday. The Aggies fell 7-3 in the first contest against the Wildcats and 9-0 in a five-inning loss.

GAME ONE

Samaria Diaz started in the circle for NM State (23-18, 8-1 WAC) and struggled in the first after giving up a one-out single. The following Arizona (29-12, 6-9 PAC 12) batter swung for the fences and a two-run homer to centerfield put New Mexico State behind 2-0. NMSU Softball Splits Doubleheader At Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State softball team took on Grand Canyon in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at the GCU Softball Complex on Friday night. Kelsey Horton's 17th home run of the season helped the Aggies defeat the Lopes 6-5 in the opening contest. Despite holding a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh, NM State fell 5-4 in the second game of the series.

GAME ONE

After a scoreless first inning for both squads, New Mexico State (22-16, 7-1 WAC) attacked the GCU (22-21, 3-4 WAC) defense beginning with a triple by Amy Bergeson. Sarai Mejia grounded out for the second out of the Aggies at-bat, but Bergeson was able to score on the play, giving New Mexico State the early 1-0 advantage.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Drops Midweek Game Against Lobos 13-4

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team hosted Battle of I-25 foe New Mexico at the NM State Softball Complex on Tuesday. The Aggies fell to the Lobos 13-4 in the midweek contest.

NM State's (18-15) Analise De La Roca earned the start in the circle and hit trouble when the freshman gave up a single to the first batter. The pitcher followed by giving up a double and a two-run homer to put the Aggies behind 3-0 before their first at-bat.

In the bottom of the frame, Fahren Glackin provided a spark for the NM State offense by hitting a triple out to right center field. Kelsey Horton followed with a single through the left side to score the senior from third.  Continue Reading This Post >>
