NMSU Softball Falls To No. 15 Tennessee

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball fell to No. 15 Tennessee on Monday as the Vols defeated the Aggies 9-0 in five innings.

Kayla Green took the circle for the Aggies. The sophomore came into the game 2-2 for the year. Green fell behind early giving up three runs in the first inning.

NM State looked to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Rachel Rodriguez started the game with a single through the left side. Kelsey Horton doubled to left field to advance Rodriguez to third. With runners on second and third, the Aggies were unable to drive in a run, stranding both runners to end the inning.

Tennessee tacked on another run in the second and five in the third to give the Vols the 9-0 advantage.

Rodriguez was again able to reach third base in the third inning. NM State was unable to get the offense going as the Aggies stranded Rodriguez for the second time.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Splits A Pair Of Games On Friday At Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball went 1-1 on Friday as the Aggies defeated DePaul 8-1 but fell to Bradley 5-3.

Game One

The Aggies came out hot against DePaul to start the day. Rachel Rodriguez singled to get the offense going in the first inning. Fahren Glackin put the first run on the board as she sent a double out to center field. The junior was driven in by a Merina Ili double to give the Aggies the 2-0 advantage to start the game.

NM State tacked on another run in the second as Kaitlyn Rubio hit a home run to left field in her first collegiate start. It was the freshman's first home run of the year.

DePaul chipped away at the Aggies lead as the Blue Demons hit a home run of their own in the fourth inning. NM State fired back scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth to give the Aggies the 4-1 lead.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Opens Troy Cox Classic With 10-2 Run-Rule Victory Over Northern Colorado

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Aggies opened the Troy Cox Classic with a win as New Mexico State defeated Northern Colorado 10-2 in six innings on Thursday.

Kayla Green was back in the circle for the NM State after going 1-1 against UTSA. The sophomore had a rocky start as she gave up a two-run homerun in the first inning.

New Mexico State chipped away at the lead, starting in the third inning. After Rachel Rodriguez reached first base on a walk, Kelsey Horton sent a ball out to left field. Rodriguez scored on the play to cut the Bears lead in half. In the next at-bat, Fahren Glackin hit a double to left field to drive in Horton and tie the game.

In the fourth, Amy Bergeson started the inning with a single to left field. Merina Ili scored Bergeson on a booming double to give New Mexico State the lead. Ili also scored in the inning to give NM State the 4-2 advantage.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Falls To UTSA In Series Finale

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State came up short as they fell to UTSA 11-3 on Sunday. Kelsey Horton hit her second home run of the season in the loss

Sophomore Kayla Green started on the mound for the New Mexico State after earning a win in her first appearance this season. She found herself in trouble early as UTSA jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning.

The Roadrunners bats stayed hot and the Aggies found themselves trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the third. Horton cut into UTSA's lead as she hit a solo home run to center field.

New Mexico State cut into the Roadrunners lead once more in the bottom of the fifth. Amy Bergeson got the offense going as she singled to get on base. Horton sent Bergeson home after hitting a double down the left field line to score the lone run of the inning.

The Roadrunners were hot once again in the seventh inning, scoring six runs to pull ahead 11-2.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Softball Defeats UTSA In Doubleheader

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team started the season off on a high note as the Aggies defeated UTSA 9-1 and 4-1 on Saturday.

"It's always great to start the season with two wins," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "We saw a lot of promise in a lot of areas."

First Game

UTSA jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Pitcher Kayla Green gave up an early run to the Roadrunners designated player to give UTSA the 1-0 lead.

The Aggies found their groove in the 4th inning. With runners on second and third, Amy Bergeson came to the plate. The junior reached on a dropped ball by the first baseman to score the first run of the inning. NMSU Softball Sweeps First Weekend Of Fall Competition

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State softball team had a great start to its fall ball this past weekend, sweeping both Western New Mexico and Battle of I-10 rival UTEP on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The Aggies showed that last year’s record-breaking number of stolen bases was not a fluke this weekend as well, swiping a ridiculous 27 bags in the four games on top of their .446 team batting average.

In its first game of fall ball, the Aggies destroyed WNMU 18-2 behind a combined effort from Kayla Green and Fahren Glackin in the circle. Aggie Softball Falls To Bakersfield 1-0 In Championship Game

Aggie Softball Eliminates Seattle, Advances To Championship Saturday

SEATTLE, WA - Tatum Reedy had five RBIs to lead the NM State softball team to a 6-4 victory over Seattle U in Friday’s final elimination game of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Aggies (38-20) scored six runs and racked up six RBIs on seven hits. Reedy went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and a home run. Makayla McAdams pitched 4.2 innings and had one strikeout in 19 batters faced.

Seattle U (19-33) scored four runs and had four RBIs on nine hits. Andie Larkins pitched 3.0 innings and allowed six runs on five hits with zero strikeouts in 16 batters faced.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Falls To Bakersfield 2-1 In WAC Tournament, Faces Elimination Game

SEATTLE, WA - Despite outhitting the Roadrunners eight to three, the NM State softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to third-seeded CSU Bakersfield on Friday afternoon at Logan Field.

The Aggies (37-20) scored one run and amassed one RBI on eight hits. Rachel Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, an RBI and a walk. Karysta Donisthope pitched 6.0 innings and had eight strikeouts in 24 batters faced.

CSU Bakersfield (15-32) scored two runs and had no RBIs on three hits. Amber Mills pitched 4.0 innings and allowed six hits in 21 batters faced.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Defeats Utah Valley 5-2 In WAC Tournament Opener

SEATTLE, WA - Senior Karysta Donisthorpe threw a career-high 13 strikeouts as she led the NM State softball team to a 5-2 win over fifth-seeded Utah Valley on Thursday afternoon at Logan Field.

The Aggies (37-19) scored five runs and racked up four RBIs on eight hits, but Donisthorpe was the highlight of the game as she led NM State to victory. The senior threw a career-high 13 strikeouts, allowed just three hits and had zero walks in 20 batters faced. Her previous career-high was 11 against South Dakota on Feb. 24, 2013.

From the first to the fourth inning, Donisthorpe threw eight strikeouts in a row with seven batters going down swinging. Overall, Donisthorpe struck out three batters looking and 10 batters swinging.  Continue Reading This Post >>
