Aggies Finish Third At WAC Indoor Championships; Cromartie Named WAC Athlete Of The Year

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State University track and field team claimed third place overall at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships for the second-straight year, and was also highlighted by junior Brianna Cromartie being named WAC Athlete of the Year.

NM State finished with a 109 total points, which ended up being seven points behind second-place UTSA and 13 points behind first-place Texas State.

We thought everything went the way we anticipated," said head track and field coach Orin Richburg. "Overall, from top to bottom, we performed really well."

Cromartie, who was named WAC Athlete of the Year, was also the High Point champion for the WAC Indoor Championships with a total individual point score of 18.5. Courtney Schultz Wins WAC Indoor 5K Title

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State University track and field team finished day two at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, with 10 Aggies qualifying for the finals and two championships already in the books.

Sophomore Diana Hawk finished third in the1-mile with a time of 5:02.24 and will compete in the finals tomorrow. Senior LaSasha Aldredge and junior Brianna Cromartie finished first and second respectively in the 400m and will both compete tomorrow in the finals. Aldredge finished in a time of 53.98 and Cromartie finished in a time of 54.18. Aggies Finish Final Meet Before WAC Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State University track and field team competed in its last regular indoor track and field season meet at the Don Kirby Collegiate open, completing the meet with a new school record in the 200m, 400m and 5,000m.

Two Aggies finished in the top five for the 200m. Junior Alishia Perkins finished third overall with a time of 24.05 and junior Brianna Cromartie finished fourth overall with a time of 24.07. Each time was a career-best and a new school record, improving upon Perkins' top school record and improving upon Cromartie's second-best school record.

Two more Aggies also finished in the top five overall in the 400m. Cromartie finished first overall with a time of 54.28, improving upon her career-best and top overall school record. Senior LaSasha Aldredge finished third overall with a time of 55.01. Freshmen Cherish Morrison and Leah Englehart also competed in the event.   Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Track And Field Sets Records In 200m, 400m, 4x400m

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State University track and field team concluded the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Saturday, Feb. 2, highlighted by three new all-time school records.

Sophomore Jenna Banegas placed seventh overall in the 60m with a time of 7.59, improving upon her career-best record to keep her at second all-time for NM State.

In the 200m, three different Aggies placed in the top 10 overall. Junior Alishia Perkins placed first overall with a time of 24.17, breaking the previous all-time school record set by teammate Brianna Cromartie last week. Banegas placed fifth overall with a time of 24.56, bumping her up to fifth all-time for NM State. Sophomore Kendra Walker finished eighth overall with a time of 24.99, tying her for ninth all-time for NM State. Freshman Cherish Morrison also competed in the event.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Track And Field Sets Two School Records

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State University track and field team traveled to Albuquerque, N.M., for a second-straight week to compete in the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational, highlighted by two new all-time school records.

NM State grabbed two of the top five overall finishes in the 60m. Sophomore Jenna Banegas finished fourth overall with a time of 7.72 and junior Alishia Perkins finished fifth overall with a time of 7.73. Aggies Set More Indoor Track And Field Records At Cherry And Silver Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State University track and field team completed its first in-state meet of the indoor season on Saturday with the Cherry and Silver Invitational.

Seven different records were set or improved upon after the meet. Overall, 16 records have been set over the past two meets to open up the 2013 indoor track and field season.

Junior Alishia Perkins and sophomore Jenna Banegas both competed in the 60m. Perkins placed seventh overall with a time of 7.66, moving her up to fourth place all-time for NM State, and Banegas placed 13th overall with a time of 7.75. Aggie Track And Field Begins Indoor Season With Strong Showing At Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TX - The New Mexico State University track and field team concluded the season opener Texas Tech Open with strong performances and high finishes by many Aggie athletes.

By the conclusion of the meet, seven new school records were made or improved upon. The Aggies also claimed three individual titles for the meet.

"We are pretty pleased with the performances today," said head track and field coach Orin Richburg. "Some of the kids we were depending on pulled through."

Junior Alishia Perkins finished first overall in the 200m when she ran a time of 24.59. Perkins also moved up on the NM State record list for the 55m when she ran a 7.13 to place second all-time in the event. Perkins finished third overall in the event. Aggie Track And Field Finishes Third At WAC Championships; 15 Aggies Earn All-WAC Honors

BOISE, ID - The New Mexico State University track and field team finished third at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the highest finish the team has ever earned since joining the conference.

NM State finished the WAC Championships with eight First Team All-WAC honors. Sophomore Zoe Meade finished second overall in the pentathlon with a total of 3,612 points. Senior Jndia Cleveland finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.67. Cleveland also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.84m. Junior LaSasha Aldredge finished second in the 400m with a time of 55.21, which is also a new school record. Sophomore Alishia Perkins finished third in the 200m with a time of 24.30, also earning a new school record as well. Juniors Courtney and Camille Schultz each earned First Team All-WAC honors in the 5,000m by finishing first and third respectively. Courtney finished with a time of 17:16.86 and Camille finished with 17:29.07. Senior Bellosie Frazier finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 18.10m, which is also a new school record.   Continue Reading This Post >>

Camille Schultz Breaks 10,000m School Record At Mt. Sac Relays

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State track and field squad competed in two meets this past weekend, with sophomore Camille Schultz bringing home the 10,000m school record in the process.

At the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., sophomore Camille Schultz broke the school record in the 10,000m with a time of 34:42.06. Courtney Schultz, who also broke the previous school record finished only .15 tenths of a second behind her sister with a time of 34:42.21. The previous record was set by Rachel Cuellar in 2002 with a time of 35.52.49.

The Aggies had two other athletes compete at the Mt. Sac Relays with Chelsa McDonnell finishing 18th in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:06.16 and Madelyn Stoltze finishing 35th in the 10,000m run open with a time of 36.48.41.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Finishes Fifth At WAC Indoor Track And Field Championships

NAMPA, ID - The New Mexico State women's track and field team finished in fifth place this weekend at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Aggies went into the final day of competition in fourth place with 31.5 points, but finished in fifth after being passed by eventual WAC Champion Louisiana Tech University.

NM State did have several bright spots as sophomore Courtney Schultz won the 5,000m with a time of 17:11.05, earning the Aggies 10 points. Courtney's sister Camille Schultz finished in third in the 5,000m with a time of 17:18.96, earning the Aggies six points.

Senior Leah Benton had a solid showing finishing third in the 60m and 200m with times of 7.69 and 24.51 respectively, earning a total of 12 points.  Continue Reading This Post >>
