Aggies Claim Sixth WAC Men's Golf Championship In Past Eight Seasons

HENDERSON, NV - The New Mexico State men's golf team won its sixth WAC Golf Championship in eight years, Wednesday afternoon at the par-72, 7,313-yard Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. The Aggies won the 2013 championship with a three-round score of 23-over par, 887 (286-298-303). NM State carded a final round score of 15-over par, 303.

This is the sixth WAC title for the Aggies, as two NM State players finished in the top-10. As a team, the Aggies carded four birdies on the final two holes of play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Men's Golf Finishes Second At WAC Championships

HENDERSON, NV - The New Mexico State fired an 11-over par, 299 in the final round of the 2012 Men’s Golf WAC Championships at the par 72, 7,332 yard Rio Secco Golf Club, finishing second overall as a team, with a three-round total of 18-over par, 882.

“It is tough finishing second,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “You get in the position to win especially at the conference championship and come up just short is hard. We did a lot of stuff right today but just couldn’t finish it out. I’m proud of the way our team competed all tournament. I think going into net year we need to build this team around Justin (Shin) and find some players to replace the seniors we are losing.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Zachery Fullerton Wins Individual Title; Men’s Golf Finishes Tenth At Rice Intercollegiate

HOUSTON, TX - Senior Zachery Fullerton won his second straight tournament of the spring season at the Rice intercollegiate, carding a three-round score of 6-under par, 210 (68-74-68), recording the third lowest round score in tournament history. Fullerton won the tournament after defeating Eric Chun of Northwestern on the third playoff of sudden death. He shot a 4-under par, 68 in the final round with four birdies.

As a team, the Aggies were 23-over par, 887 (293-304-290) with a team best 2-over par, 290 in the final round of play. NM State finished 10th overall.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Place Eighth At Alister MacKinzie Invite

FAIRFAX, CA - The New Mexico State men’s golf team finished the Alister MacKinzie Invitational Tuesday afternoon in eighth-place with a three round score of 11-under par, 841. The Aggies carded a low team round of 8-under par, 276, with three Aggies finishing the tournament under par.

“We seem to play better in the last round of tournaments and I'm not sure why but we do,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “We need to try and do that for three rounds. Aggie Men's Golf Finishes Seventh At William H. Tucker Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The New Mexico State men’s golf team wrapped up play at the William H. Tucker with a seventh place finish at 27-over par, 891. The Aggies fired a 7-over par, 295 in the final round.

Senior Gaston De La Torre carded the low round of the day for the Aggies, a 4-under par, 68, finishing tied for seventh overall at 1-over par, 217 for the tournament. De La Torre recorded five birdies and just one bogey. Junior Justin Shin carded a 4-over par, 76 in the final round and finished 4-over par, 220 for the tournament. He had just one birdie in the final round.

Brett Walker had his best round of the tournament with a 1-over par, 73, carding three birdies. He finished tied for 41st overall with a three-round score of 11-over par, 227. Senior Zachery Fullerton finished the tournament at 12-over par, 228. He fired a 6-over par, 78 in the final round, with one birdie.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Finish Strong At Golfweek Challenge

BURLINGTON, IA - The New Mexico State men’s golf team wrapped up competition at the 2011 Golfweek Conference Challenge at the 7,360-yard, par 72 Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. NM State carded its best round of the tournament with a team score of 5-over par, 293, placing ninth out of 15 teams at 26-over par.

Junior Justin Shin had a monster day on the links with a 4-under par, 68, finishing third overall as an individual with a three-round score of 4-under par, 212. Shin recorded four birdies and an eagle in the final round with just two bogeys.

Senior Gaston De La Torre shot his third straight round of even par golf with a 72 in round three. De La Torre finished the tournament tied for eighth overall with a three-round score of 216. He tallied four birdies in the final round.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Colorado Invitational

ERIE, CO - The New Mexico State men’s golf team wrapped up its first competition of the 2011-12 season with a fifth-place team finish of 3-over par, 867 at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational held at the Colorado National Golf Club, a championship layout of 7,741 yard, par-72. The Aggies carded a team score of 1-over par, 289 in the final round.

Junior Justin Shin led the Aggies from start to finish in the tournament, finishing fourth overall with a three-round score of 8-under par, 208. Shin carded a final round score of 1-under par, 71. Senior Zachery Fullerton tied for seventh overall with a three-round score of 5-under par, 211. NM State Men’s Golf Finishes 12th At NCAA Regional

ERIE, CO - The New Mexico State men’s golf team wrapped up its 2010-11 season at the NCAA Regional Golf Tournament at the 7,758‐yard, par‐72 Colorado National Golf Club. The Aggies carded a 7-over par, 295 in the final round and finished the tournament 14-over par, 878.

Senior Tim Madigan finished tied for 31st overall after carding a final round score of 2-over par, 74. Madigan was 1-over par, 217 (72-71-74). He recorded three birdies on the day. Junior Gaston De La Torre fired the best round of the day for NM State with an even-par, 72. Aggies Grab Lead Heading Into Final Round Of WAC Championship Tournament

HENDERSON, NV - The New Mexico State men’s golf team has claimed the lead at the 2011 WAC Championships after round two, carding a team score of 7-over par, 294, at the par 72 – 7,313 yard Rio Secco Golf Club. The Aggies hold a nine stroke lead over Fresno State going into the final round of play on Wednesday.

The Aggies went 9-under par on holes 17 and 18 in the second round, recording seven birdies and an eagle.

Sophomore Justin Shin bounced back from a 2-over par in round one to card a team low round of 2-under par, 70. Shin recorded four birdies on the day and an eagle on the par-5 17th. Shin is currently third at even-par after two rounds. Junior Gaston De La Torre fired a second round score of 1-over par, 73, recording four birdies on the day and playing the par-5’s at 3-under par.
