NMSU Men's Golf Takes Second Place At Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State men’s golf team completed the three-round Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate at the NMSU Golf Course on Tuesday. After 54 holes of play, the Aggies finished in second place with a team score of 848 (-4).

Team play was led by Michael McGilton who finished in third on the individual leaderboard after firing a 68-69-68—205 (-8). McGilton led NM State and finished second in the field with 13 birdies. Tadhg Campbell tied for seventh with scores of 67-72-74—213 (E).

Isaac Merry posted a 71-72-74—217 (+4) which placed the Aggie in a tie for 19th. Freshman Taylor Stote had his best personal round on day three of 71 to bring his total to 220 (+7) and finish tied for 33rd. Jack Snyder rounded out the NM State starters with scores of 74-69-78—221 (+8) to tie for 38th.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At WAC Championship Tournament

BLAINE, WA - The New Mexico State Aggies shot a final round 304 to finish fourth at the 2016 Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship at the Loomis Trail Golf Club at the Semiahmoo Resort.

The Aggies finished the tournament at 895 to place fourth, 13 strokes behind third place Utah Valley at 882. Missouri-Kansas City won its first WAC Championship with a final round 287 to finish at 12-under-par 852. Seattle U. was second at 4-over 868. UMKC snapped the Aggies string of three straight WAC titles.

The Aggies were paced by senior Kenneth Fadke II of Hobbs, N.M., who shot a 3-over 75 in the final round to tie for 13th at 6-over 222 on the par 72, 7,137-yard Loomis Trail Course.

NM State also got a 3-over 75 in the final round from sophomore Isaac Merry of Las Cruces, N.M./Onate, playing the back nine in 1-over. Merry finished the tournament at 230.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Men's Golf Wins Third Consecutive WAC Title

LITCHFIELD, AZ - The New Mexico State men’s golf team held on to the lead winning its third consecutive Western Athletic Conference title and its eighth in 10 years after marking a combined-team score of 2-under-par 861 (287-288-286) on the Heritage Course at the Wigwam Golf Club (7,161 yards, par 72).

Four out of the five participating Aggies placed in the top 10 with senior Brett Walker pacing his team with a 3-under-par 213 (70-73-70) to finish in a tie for second. Walker played very well on par 4 holes and ended the tournament with 13 birdies over 54 holes of play. He was named a second team All-WAC selection.

“We came into this week with a lot of expectations and sometimes it is hard to overcome those expectations and be successful,” head coach Mike Dirks said. Aggie Men's Golf Wins Price’s Give Em Five Tournament

EL PASO, TX - The New Mexico State men’s golf won its second tournament of the week, the Price’s Give Em Five Invitational by 11 strokes at the par-72, 7,307-yard Butterfield Trail Golf Club. The Aggies carded three-round score of 28-over par, 836. In the final round, the Aggies were 3-under par, 285.

“We had an unbelievable week,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “To win our first tournament at home then go down to El Paso and win a second tournament was really special. I’m extremely proud of these guys.”

NM State has three finishers in the top-10 and four in the top-15.

“With these two wins is shows that we are starting to believe in ourselves,” Dirks said. “Knowing that we should be in that final group with a chance to win a tournament is a big accomplishment for this team.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Men’s Golf Brings Home Title, Walker Tops Leaderboard

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State men’s golf team led from start to finish at the 2013 Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, winning their home tournament on Tuesday by six strokes over second place Colorado State.

The Aggies finished with a total-team score of 6-over-par 858 (283-289-286) and on top of the 17-team field. It was the first win for NM State at its home tournament since 2008.

“Today was a fight all the way through but it goes to show that it still takes four scores,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “This was a total team victory for us. We have to play together and that is what happened at this tournament.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Claim Sixth WAC Men's Golf Championship In Past Eight Seasons

HENDERSON, NV - The New Mexico State men's golf team won its sixth WAC Golf Championship in eight years, Wednesday afternoon at the par-72, 7,313-yard Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. The Aggies won the 2013 championship with a three-round score of 23-over par, 887 (286-298-303). NM State carded a final round score of 15-over par, 303.

This is the sixth WAC title for the Aggies, as two NM State players finished in the top-10. As a team, the Aggies carded four birdies on the final two holes of play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Men's Golf Finishes Second At WAC Championships

HENDERSON, NV - The New Mexico State fired an 11-over par, 299 in the final round of the 2012 Men’s Golf WAC Championships at the par 72, 7,332 yard Rio Secco Golf Club, finishing second overall as a team, with a three-round total of 18-over par, 882.

“It is tough finishing second,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “You get in the position to win especially at the conference championship and come up just short is hard. We did a lot of stuff right today but just couldn’t finish it out. I’m proud of the way our team competed all tournament. Zachery Fullerton Wins Individual Title; Men’s Golf Finishes Tenth At Rice Intercollegiate

HOUSTON, TX - Senior Zachery Fullerton won his second straight tournament of the spring season at the Rice intercollegiate, carding a three-round score of 6-under par, 210 (68-74-68), recording the third lowest round score in tournament history. Fullerton won the tournament after defeating Eric Chun of Northwestern on the third playoff of sudden death. He shot a 4-under par, 68 in the final round with four birdies.

As a team, the Aggies were 23-over par, 887 (293-304-290) with a team best 2-over par, 290 in the final round of play. NM State finished 10th overall.  Continue Reading This Post >>
