Aggie Equestrian Defeats South Dakota State

FRESNO, CA - The New Mexico State equestrian team handled South Dakota State, Saturday morning, winning 9-4. NM State earned three most outstanding riders on the day. The Aggies move to 4-7 on the season.

The Western team won 6-1, while the Hunter Seat team came up just short, falling 4-3.

In Equitation on the Flat, Laura Bostwick was named MOP, beating Megan Violand, 73-64. In Equitation over Fences, Emily McConnell earned MOP honors with a win over Jordan Goodall, 83-75. Bostwick earned her second win of the day by defeating Santana Wright, 81-73.

The Horsemanship team swept the event 3-0-1, as Courtney Cruse was named MOP after beating Hillary Bassinger, 73-69. Lauren DeVoe handled Shelby Webb, 72.5-0, as Megan Gould earned the third point for the Aggies with a 72.5-70 win over Kelsey Champagne.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Falls To Baylor

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State equestrian team held its lone home event of the 2013 spring season, Saturday at the NM State Equestrian Center. The Aggies fell to Baylor, 14-5 on the afternoon, while NM State also honored the team’s four seniors; Hannah Swarthout, Samantha Stephens, Megan Gould and Laura Bostwick in their final home event.

The Western team fell to Baylor 7-2, scoring one point in Horsemanship and in Reining, while the Hunter Seat team lost 7-3, as the Equitation over Fences score was 4-1 and the Equitation on the Flat ended at 3-2.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Defeats Miami (OH), Ohio State, Falls To Baylor

WACO, TX - The NM State equestrian team wrapped up competition at the Willis Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Aggies finished its competition with Miami-Ohio/Ohio State, winning 12-over all. NM State then took on Baylor and fell 11-5.

“I’m very pleased with how we competed the entire tournament,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “I thought our Western team had a very solid day against Baylor. The Hunter Seat faced the defending national champions but never backed down. I’m so proud of our entire team. We are ready to take on TCU tomorrow.”

The Aggies would win Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences, 3-1, while winning Horsemanship and Reining, 3-1 as well. In the Flat, Shannon Dooley, Julie Frey and Laura Bostwick were all victorious, while Elizabeth Solomon, Amber Tassel and Emily McConnell won in the over Fences competition. Equestrian Ends Season At Nationals

WACO, TX - The New Mexico State women’s equestrian team ended its season on Thursday at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships in Waco, Texas. Both teams were ousted by their opponents, as the Western team fell to Fresno State 6-2 and the Hunter Seat team lost to Oklahoma State, 7-1.

“As I have said many times I thought we had the talent to really make a good push this year at nationals and go far in both Hunter Seat and Western,” head coach Audrey Buck said. “But lots of stuff didn’t go our way today. I thought we had some good rides but we made too many mistakes that shouldn’t be made at the national competition. I’m extremely proud of our team and how we have fought all season long. We are disappointed in the way our season came to an end but we have great student-athletes on this team and I believe the future is bright for the program.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Upends No. 2 Auburn

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 8 ranked New Mexico State equestrian team defeated No. 2 Auburn Friday morning at NM State Equestrian Center, 8-7. The Aggies took the Western competition 5-3, while falling just short in Hunter Seat, 4-3.

The Aggies are now 8-6 on the season, while Auburn goes to 6-4 on the year. NM State had an MVP on both the Hunter Seat and Western sides.

Hannah Swarthout got the Aggies started on the day with an MVP win over Anna Becker of Auburn, 82-72 in Equitation on the Flat. It’s Swarthout’s first MVP honor of the season and the only point NM State had in Equitation on the Flat. Ruby Jenkins tied Grace Socha, 76 all, as Auburn took Equitation on the Flat, 2-1.

NM State tied Auburn, 2-2 in Equitation over Fences, as Elizabeth Solomon defeated Jennifer Waxman, 80-77, while Emily McConnell beat Christina Lin, 81-75.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Defeats TCU

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Equestrian team defeated TCU, Saturday, 12-6 at the NM State Equestrian Center. The Aggies are now 7-6 on the season and have won five of their last eight competitions.

“I’m extremely pleased with the way our entire team performed today,” head coach Audry Buck said. “We rode with confidence and now we need to continue to work hard and stay forced these next few weeks as we prepare for Auburn and Fresno State.”

Aggie Equestrian Ends Season At VENC

WACO, TX - The New Mexico State equestrian team ended its 2010-11 season on Thursday, after both the Hunter Seat and Western teams both fell in the opening round of the 2011 Varsity Equestrian National Championships, in Waco, Texas, at the Extraco Events Center.

Aggie Equestrian Western Team Knocks Off No. 4 Oklahoma State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State Equestrian team defeated Oklahoma State, Saturday afternoon at the NM State Equestrian Center, 6-4. This was a Western only competition. The Aggies took the Horsemanship event and the Reining event, 3-2.

“I thought the ladies rode with confidence and purpose today,” assistant coach, Robin Morris said. “We stepped up as a team a rode the way we needed too. I think Christina (Keyes) really benefited from the experience she gained last semester and it showed today. I expected a lot of good things out of her this spring. Chelsea (Campbell) is a very unique rider in the fact that she can ride in both Horsemanship and Reining and excel in each discipline.
