NMSU Equestrian Downs TCU 9-7

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State equestrian team squared off against the TCU Horned Frogs at home on Friday. The team came out strong early on and ended up taking down the Horned Frogs, 9-7.

The New Mexico State equestrian team fell to the SMU Mustangs at their meet today in Dallas, Texas. The squad was outscored in each of the four events as they ended up losing to a final score of 16-4.

The day began with the most dominant performance of the day by the Aggies, in equitation on the flat. This event saw the Aggies win with a 4-0 sweep as Madison Brayman, Grace McMurry, Karianna Knezevich and Remington Wilkie each earned a point for the squad. NMSU Equestrian Falls To No. 5 Baylor, Defeats South Dakota State

WACO, TX - The 10th-ranked New Mexico State equestrian team split a pair of competitions as they topped South Dakota State 13-2 but fell to No. 5 Baylor 10-6 on Saturday during the second day of the Willis Invitational.

The Aggies swept the equitation on the flat event against South Dakota State. Grace McMurry scored an 82, Isabel Walton had an 80, Karianna Knezevich racked up a 75 and Madison Brayman collected an 84 as each earned a point for the squad. In addition to her point, Brayman was named Most Outstanding Player for that event.

NM State also won equitation over fences. Knezevich and Samantha Perlman scored an 80 and an 81, respectively, to each earn a point. Perlman was named Most Outstanding Player for equitation over fences.  Continue Reading This Post >>

DeVoe Wins AQHA Horsemanship Challenge

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Senior Lauren DeVoe won the 2014 AQHA Horsemanship Challenge Thursday evening at Jim Norick Arena .

For this collegiate competition, riders were mounted on unfamiliar horses, donated to the event by AQHA Professional Horsemen and Horsewomen.

"We were thrilled to be a part of this great event. Lauren rode with brilliance and showed each horse in each round with confidence,” NM State head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “Her finals pattern was flawless. I am very proud of her accomplishment."

The AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge blends the styles of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association and National Collegiate Equestrian Association competition, drawing the best horsemanship athletes from each organization.

Aggie Equestrian Edges Fresno State 10-8

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State equestrian team edged Fresno State 10-8 Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies improve to 2-2 on the season.

NM State dominated the reining portion of the meet. Hailey Newkirk, Brynn Larson, Marissa Bartmann and Jaimie Story helped lead the Aggies to a 4-1 win. Newkirk and Larson each scored a 70.5 to lead the Aggies.

The Aggies narrowly dodged the Bulldogs in equitation over fences portion of the meet, winning 3-2.

Remington Wilkie, Cori Cromwell and Elizabeth Solomon each picked up wins. Solomon scored a meet-high 84.

The MOP for the equitation on the flat was Solomon and the MOP for the reining was Bartmann.

NM State Equestrian Beats SMU 11-7

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 5 New Mexico State Equestrian team jumped back in the win column Saturday at the NM State Equestrian Center with an 11-7 win over SMU. The Aggies are now 8-3 on the year.

NM State took Most Outstanding Player awards in Equitation on the Flat, Equitation over Fences and Reining.

The Aggies won the Hunter Seat competition 5-4, winning 3-2 in Equitation on the Flat and tying 2-2 in Equitation over Fences. Shannon Dooley was named MOP in Equitation on the Flat with an 84-78 win over SMU’s Schaefer Raposa. Hannah Swarthout defeated Julianna Fischer, 74-69, while Julie Frey beat Alex Butterworth, 82-76.

In Equitation over Fences, Amber Tassel earned MOP honors with an 89-85 win over SMU’s Sylvia De Toledo. Emily McConnell continued her winning ways with an 81-77 win over Butterworth of SMU. Elizabeth Solomon tied with Fischer of SMU, 82-82.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Equestrian Completes Sweep Of Weekend

DOVER, DE - The New Mexico State equestrian team wrapped up competition at Delaware State, with wins over Fresno State (6-5) and Sacred Heart (10-2), completing the sweep of the weekend, going 3-0 overall.

The No. 8 ranked Aggies move to 6-1 on the season, after collecting six of the Most Outstanding Player honors on Saturday.

“Overall it was a great weekend,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “The team was prepared and rode solid. We had many riders win Most Outstanding Player accolades and an overall win on the tournament. We look forward to carrying the momentum for our home meets this weekend.”

Versus Fresno, Rianna Storey was named the Horsemanship MOP with a 74-70.5 win over Kirsten McKillop. Lauren DeVoe also won her head-to-head match-up 72-71 over Rio Haack. In Reining, Tara Wilson was the lone Aggie to earn a point, defeating McKillop, 71.5-71.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Defeats South Dakota State

FRESNO, CA - The New Mexico State equestrian team handled South Dakota State, Saturday morning, winning 9-4. NM State earned three most outstanding riders on the day. The Aggies move to 4-7 on the season.

The Western team won 6-1, while the Hunter Seat team came up just short, falling 4-3.

In Equitation on the Flat, Laura Bostwick was named MOP, beating Megan Violand, 73-64. In Equitation over Fences, Emily McConnell earned MOP honors with a win over Jordan Goodall, 83-75. Bostwick earned her second win of the day by defeating Santana Wright, 81-73.

The Horsemanship team swept the event 3-0-1, as Courtney Cruse was named MOP after beating Hillary Bassinger, 73-69. Lauren DeVoe handled Shelby Webb, 72.5-0, as Megan Gould earned the third point for the Aggies with a 72.5-70 win over Kelsey Champagne.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Falls To Baylor

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State equestrian team held its lone home event of the 2013 spring season, Saturday at the NM State Equestrian Center. The Aggies fell to Baylor, 14-5 on the afternoon, while NM State also honored the team’s four seniors; Hannah Swarthout, Samantha Stephens, Megan Gould and Laura Bostwick in their final home event.

The Western team fell to Baylor 7-2, scoring one point in Horsemanship and in Reining, while the Hunter Seat team lost 7-3, as the Equitation over Fences score was 4-1 and the Equitation on the Flat ended at 3-2.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Equestrian Defeats Miami (OH), Ohio State, Falls To Baylor

WACO, TX - The NM State equestrian team wrapped up competition at the Willis Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Aggies finished its competition with Miami-Ohio/Ohio State, winning 12-over all. NM State then took on Baylor and fell 11-5.

“I’m very pleased with how we competed the entire tournament,” head coach Robin Morris-Walters said. “I thought our Western team had a very solid day against Baylor. The Hunter Seat faced the defending national champions but never backed down. I’m so proud of our entire team. We are ready to take on TCU tomorrow.”

The Aggies would win Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences, 3-1, while winning Horsemanship and Reining, 3-1 as well. In the Flat, Shannon Dooley, Julie Frey and Laura Bostwick were all victorious, while Elizabeth Solomon, Amber Tassel and Emily McConnell won in the over Fences competition. Equestrian Ends Season At Nationals

WACO, TX - The New Mexico State women’s equestrian team ended its season on Thursday at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships in Waco, Texas. Both teams were ousted by their opponents, as the Western team fell to Fresno State 6-2 and the Hunter Seat team lost to Oklahoma State, 7-1.

“As I have said many times I thought we had the talent to really make a good push this year at nationals and go far in both Hunter Seat and Western,” head coach Audrey Buck said. “But lots of stuff didn’t go our way today. I thought we had some good rides but we made too many mistakes that shouldn’t be made at the national competition. I’m extremely proud of our team and how we have fought all season long. We are disappointed in the way our season came to an end but we have great student-athletes on this team and I believe the future is bright for the program.”  Continue Reading This Post >>
