NMSU Football Adds Five Signees

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Five more student-athletes, including two transfers from FBS schools, have made their commitments to play football at NM State.

Defensive backs Olan Cazad Jr. and D.J. McCullough, defensive tackle Darvis Holmes, offensive lineman Gabriel Preciado and tight end Anthony Roberson signed with the Aggies on Wednesday, strengthening the program's 2020 signing class.

"Our staff continued to work extremely hard on recruiting during this shutdown period, and it paid off in a huge way," head coach Doug Martin said. "These are exceptional student-athletes that we've just signed, and they're really Power Five-conference players talent-wise. They'll all have a huge impact this season."

Holmes and Roberson each come to NM State from FBS programs. Holmes began his collegiate career at Missouri, and Roberson spent the previous four years at UCF.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Spring Practice, Spring Game Canceled

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State Athletics announced on Thursday that the Aggie football team's spring practices, as well as the 2020 Spring Game, have been canceled.

The decision to cancel spring practices, including the annual Spring Game, was made in accordance with recommendations by New Mexico State University, as well as national and state health officials, to mitigate the further spread of coronavirus.

"These decisions have been made with the health and safety of our student-athletes as our top priority," Director of Athletics Mario Moccia said.

NM State's spring practice season was slated to begin Wednesday, April 1, inside Aggie Memorial Stadium. The Spring Game was set for Saturday, April 25.

Cory White Named Offensive Line Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Cory White, who has nearly 20 years of college football coaching experience under his belt, is returning to the Aggies as offensive line coach, head coach Doug Martin announced Tuesday.

A member of Martin's NM State staff during the 2015 campaign, White returns to Las Cruces after spending the previous two seasons on the offensive coaching staff at San Diego.

"Cory is a great addition to our staff and makes us a better team," Martin said. "He has a history of developing players and has a great deal of experience with our style of offense."

White was the player development coordinator in his first stint at NM State, assisting the head coach with the day-to-day operations of the program. He was the Aggies' liaison with professional scouts and for community service projects.   Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Agrees To Road Game At Fresno State In 2024

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State and Fresno State have agreed to an additional game scheduled for 2024, the schools announced in a joint release Thursday.

The Aggies and Bulldogs will play on Oct. 5, 2024, at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif.

NM State is 1-18-0 all-time against the Bulldogs. The two programs most recently squared off in 2019, when the Aggies hosted Fresno State inside Aggie Memorial Stadium.

The current home-and-home series continues next season, as NM State heads to Fresno State for an Oct. 24, 2020, showdown. The Aggies last took a road trip to Fresno, Calif., during the 2010 campaign.

NMSU Football Extends Series With Hawai'i

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Aggies and Rainbow Warriors will clash twice in 2021.

NM State and Hawaii, already scheduled to meet on Sept. 25, 2021, at Aggie Memorial Stadium, will go head-to-head again on Oct. 23, 2021, inside Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The additional game will give NM State its third in-season, home-and-home series in four years. The Aggies took on Liberty twice during both the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.

NM State and Hawaii, the former Western Athletic Conference foes, also agreed to games in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The Aggies will host the Rainbow Warriors on Oct. 15, 2022, and Aug. 24, 2024, inside Aggie Memorial Stadium and make a trip to Honolulu for a Sept. 23, 2023, contest.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Two Aggies Named To Pro Football Focus All-Independent Team

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State has placed two student-athletes on Pro Football Focus' year-end All-Independent Team.

Seniors Jason Huntley and OJ Clark earned spots on the offensive squad. Huntley received recognition as a running back, while Clark picked up All-Independent honors as a punt returner.

Huntley was the only FBS Independent tailback to rush for 1,000 yards this season. The Arlington, Texas, native ran for 1,090 yards and nine touchdowns in his senior campaign, running for 100 or more yards in five games during 2019.

He became one of 12 Aggie running backs since 1954 to run for 1,000 or more yards in a season.

Clark, meanwhile, led the Aggies in punt returns with 14 for 146 yards (10.43 avg.). He returned six punts for 96 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown, in the win over UIW.

NMSU Football Extends Series With Louisiana

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State and Louisiana have agreed to extend their home-and-home series with additional games scheduled for 2023 and 2024, Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced Wednesday, Oct. 2.

The Aggies will visit Louisiana on Oct. 14, 2023, before playing host to the Ragin’ Cajuns at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Oct. 26, 2024.

NM State is 5-8-0 all-time against Louisiana. The two teams most recently clashed in 2018, when the Aggies traveled to Lafayette, La.

The current home-and-home series continues next season, as Louisiana makes the trip to Las Cruces, N.M. The game is set for Oct. 24, 2020.
