Martin Adds Davis, Pentz To Football Staff

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin announced the addition of Chili Davis and Ronnie Pentz to his full-time staff on Monday, April 30th.

Pentz will work with the defensive ends and serve as the co-special teams coordinator while Davis takes over the tight ends with Chase Holbrook moving over as the quarterbacks coach.

Davis was elevated to a full-time assistant coaching position after serving as the offensive graduate assistant last season during NM State’s historic bowl run that culminated with the Aggies breaking a 57-year bowl drought and capturing the 2017 NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl. Jaleel Scott Selected In 4th Round By Baltimore Ravens

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Former New Mexico State football wide receiver Jaleel Scott was selected in the fourth round, pick 132, by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft. Scott becomes the first Aggie chosen in the draft since the Jacksonville Jaguars took Jeremy Harris in the seventh round in 2013. The wideout is also the highest Aggie taken in the draft since Davon House was selected in the fourth round, pick 131, by the Green Bay Packers in 2011.

The wide receiver played two seasons at NM State after transferring from Ellsworth Community College in 2016. Scott played a pivotal role in helping the Aggies make history with their first bowl appearance in 57 years.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Announces Four Games With UMass

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State football team and the University of Massachusetts have signed a pair home-and-home series between 2020-23 Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced on Friday.

"Having a home and home series against UMass is another positive move for our future schedule," said head football coach Doug Martin. "This opens up recruits from east coast junior colleges to see our style of play and give us a better chance to get quality players from that part of the country.

The first meeting in history between the Aggies and Minutemen is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2020, at McGuirk Stadium. UMass then makes the return trip to Aggie Memorial Stadium in 2021 for a Nov. 27 showdown.

NM State then heads back to the east coast for a matchup on Oct. 8, 2022 in Amherst, Ma. The final game between the teams is set to take place on Sept. 30, 2023 in the City of Crosses.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Adds Eight To 2018 Recruiting Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin inked 10 players for the 2018 season on National Signing Day. Martin added eight Aggies out of high school and two JUCO transfers.

“I would like to congratulate our outstanding coaching staff on putting together an incredible class of Aggie Football players,” said head football coach Doug Martin. “We were able to ride the wave of enthusiasm and excitement from the Arizona Bowl win and wins over rivals UTEP and UNM to attract this group of players that will help NM State football continue its success. This is the beginning of a great story! Go Aggies!”

Pierce, Nohara, Cottrell To Enter NMSU Athletics Hall Of Fame

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Athletic Department will induct Jimmy Cottrell, Hoku Nohara and Alane (Pierce) Stutzman into its 2018 US Bank/NM State Athletic Hall of Fame class on Friday, Feb. 23. The 6 p.m. (MT) event is open to the public and will take place in the Danny Villanueva Victory Club on the third floor of the Stan Fulton Athletic Center.

Chase Holbrook To Take Over As Quarterbacks Coach For NMSU Football

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin named former tight ends coach and NM State alum Chase Holbrook the team’s quarterbacks coach for the 2018 season.

“Chase Holbrook will do a great job with our quarterbacks and I have full confidence that this move is best for our entire team,” said Martin following the announcement. “Being a head coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator is just too much for me to do and because of the outstanding offensive staff we have at NM State this is best for our quarterbacks and team. NMSU Football Adds Nine Players For 2018

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin and staff inked nine players for the 2018 season during the early signing period. The Aggies added talent on both sides of the ball with five offensive players and four on defense joining the squad in 2018.

After the big day recruiting coordinator Cory Martin said, “This is an exciting day for New Mexico State and all the young men that joined our Aggie football family. We really carried the momentum from a great season into singing day. We definitely feel this class can elevate the program that has begun a great story here in Las Cruces.”

Eight Aggies Named To Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Teams

CLEVELAND, OH - The New Mexico State football team was represented well in the recent release of the Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Conference team honors Wednesday morning. A total of eight Aggies earned first, second or third-team honors with three of the eight earning first-team accolades.

Offensively, Jaleel Scott led the trio of winners from that side of the ball with first-team honors after finishing the regular-season in a tie for the league lead in touchdowns with eight. The 6-6 wide receiver also led the league with 73 receptions and was second in receiving yards (1,042) – which ranked 18th in the nation. Scott also earned 1st Team All-Sun Belt honors.

Larry Rose III was named to the Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Second Team, to add to his second-team honors from the SBC on Dec. 6. Rose capped off his senior season second in the conference with nine rushing touchdowns and 807 rushing yards to finish in fifth.  Continue Reading This Post >>
