Rodney Butler, Maxwell Johnson Earn Sun Belt Player Of The Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS, LA - New Mexico State sophomore linebacker Rodney Butler and senior place kicker Maxwell Johnson were named the defensive player of the week and special teams player of the week as announced by the Sun Belt Conference office, Monday, Sept. 8. NM State Football Begins Fall Practice, Friday, August 1

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team opens its 2014 fall camp, Friday, Aug. 1, at the football practice field beginning at 3:00 p.m. Practices will be open for the first 45 minutes of practice then closed for the remainder of practice. The first five days of camp are the NCAA mandated five-day acclimation period before the Aggies jump right into two-a-day practices on Aug. 9.

The Aggies' annual media day in Las Cruces is scheduled for July 31 at 10:30 a.m., in the football meeting rooms, located on the north end of the stadium.

NM State opens up its 2014 season, Aug. 28, against Cal Poly inside Aggie Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Season tickets are available now and start at only $50, while kids 12 and under are just $5 a game. Tickets can be purchased through the Pan American Center ticket office, by calling 575-646-1420, or visiting and searching for NM State football. Sun Belt Football Preseason Coaches Poll Released; Aggies Picked 11th

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Sun Belt Conference office announced the 2014 Preseason Coaches Poll, July 19. NM State was selected No. 11 in the poll with 26 points.

“Right now all we can worry about is ourselves,” head coach Doug Martin said. “There is a reason why you play the games. We know that this is a much improved football team right now then from this time last year. We understand the challenges we have ahead of us and we look forward to those challenges and getting back on the football field.”

NM State went 2-10 in 2013 during Martin’s first season as head coach after playing one of the toughest schedules in the school’s history. Maxwell Johnson Named To Lou Groza Award Watch List

New Mexico State's Maxwell Johnson was named to the thirty-player Watch List for the 2014 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, as announced by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission on Wednesday.

Johnson returns after he was NMSU's leading scorer in 2013. His 10 field goals came in the span of the final eight games, including a pair in the 4th quarter of a 34-29 victory over Abilene Christian.

Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Thursday, November 6th. From this list, a panel of more than 300 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, and former Groza finalists selects the top three finalists for the award by Monday, November 24th. Ume-Ezeoke Named To 2014 Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Rimington Trophy Committee has released its 2014 Fall Watch List, which features 66 of the best centers in Division I football, including New Mexico State’s Valerian Ume-Ezeoke. This is the second year in a row that Ume-Ezeoke, a native of Garland, Texas, as made the fall watch list.

Ume-Ezeoke started at center for the Aggies offensive line during the 2013 season, recording 56.5 knockdowns, second highest on the team. He had a season-high 10 knockdowns against Louisiana (Nov. 2). Ume-Ezeoke’s play helped the Aggies’ leading rusher Germi Morrison rush for an average of 4.1 yards a rush on 109 carries for 451 yards and a team-high four rushing touchdowns. His blocking ability also allowed quarterback Andrew McDonald lead the Aggies in passing, throwing for 2,497 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 208.1 yards a game.   Continue Reading This Post >>

NM STATE Releases Aggie Memorial Stadium Turf Design

2014 NM State Field Turf Design

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State athletic department today released the final design of the synthetic turf that is currently being installed at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The field will debut on Thursday, August 28 at 6PM for the home opener against Cal Poly as part of Ag Day.

The field design will use a liberal amount of crimson, with the Pistol Pete logo emblazoned across the center of the field. The bright and vibrant colors will make Aggie Memorial Stadium a place of pride for the entire community.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State Athletics Department released the 2014 New Mexico State football poster, Thursday afternoon. This year the 2014 edition is shaped like the state of New Mexico, while also holding several elements of symbolism.

In addition to its unique shape, die cut in the State of New Mexico, the player wearing the No. 1 jersey shows that the players are excited for a new season and ready to strive for success on the field. Martin Names Walt Wells Offensive Line Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin announced the hiring of Walt Wells as the Aggies’ new offensive line coach, Tuesday afternoon. Wells brings over 20 years of experience in the collegiate ranks to the NM State staff as both an offensive line coach and offensive coordinator.

“Coach Wells is another coach with tremendous experience,” Martin said. “I think the one thing that is intriguing about Walt is his experience as an offensive coordinator. That experience will be valuable to coach Brandon as they work together and game plan. Symington Resigns As Offensive Line Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin announced on Wednesday that offensive line coach Chris Symington has resigned from his position due to on-going health issues. A search for his replacement is already underway.

“Right now our concern is for Chris’ health and helping him get better,” Martin said. “Myself and the staff support coach Symington and will do everything we can to help him. His health is more important right now than the game of football.”
