NMSU Football Falls At No. 9/10 Texas A&M

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

COLLEGE STATION, TX - The NM State football team played with heart Saturday night in front of 99,960 hostile fans at Kyle Field as it fell 52-10 to No. 9/10 Texas A&M on the road.

"I told our offensive kids, we had 3 goals tonight," said head coach Doug Martin. "We wanted to play more physical, we wanted to take care of the football and we wanted to run the ball better. We really got all three of those down tonight. For us, it was a productive night as far as that goes. If we can carry that on into our last four conference games, then we have a chance to win some of those games, or all of those games."

Tyler Rogers finished the game completing 19-of-34 passes for 138 yards in the air and added another 40 on the ground. Larry Rose III ran for 89 of the Aggies' 169 net yards on the ground and added 26 reception yards as well for 115 all-purpose yards.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NEW ORLEANS, LA – New Mexico State’s Rodney Butler was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday morning as announced by the league after registering 18 tackles Saturday night against UL-Lafayette with six solo tackles as the Aggies defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns 37-31 in double overtime.

This is the second weekly conference honor for Butler this season and the third overall for the Aggies.

The NM State captain picked up his third-career interception in the second quarter when he stepped in front of Anthony Jenning’s pass. His last interception came in 2015, also against the Ragin’ Cajuns. The 6-1 linebacker also forced a fumbled in the first quarter, the fourth of his career.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Rodney Butler, Parker Davidson Earn Sun Belt Player Of The Week Honors

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

NEW ORLEANS, LA - After stellar performances by linebacker Rodney Butler and kicker Parker Davidson led the NM State football team victory over Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico, the duo has been selected as the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive Student-Athlete of the week and Special Teams Student-Athlete of the week, respectively. The conference announced these honors Monday.

Butler demolished his previous career-high of 17 tackles on Saturday night as he racked up 24 to lead the defensive efforts in a 32-31 win over Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico. This was the first time the Aggies have defeated the Lobos since 2011.

After he amassed 15 tackles in the first half, he completed the game just two tackles shy of the single-game record 26 tackles at NM State. Butler became the first Aggie to have 20 or more tackles since 2013 when Clint Barnard racked up 20 against UTEP.  Continue Reading This Post >>
