Career Night Earns Lomax Sun Belt Player Of The Week

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Sun Belt Conference announced the football player of the week awards on Monday morning. After a career-night against Battle of I-10 rival UTEP, New Mexico State defensive back Shamad Lomax earned the nod for defensive player of the week.

In the impressive 41-14 victory, Lomax recorded nine tackles and a career-high three interceptions. All three interceptions also came in just the first half, including a 19-yard pick-six that put the Aggies up 21-7 before heading to the locker room.

The three interceptions was the first time an Aggie has accomplished such a feat since Donald Stowers did so against UNLV on Nov. 18, 1995.

NM State's defense, led by Lomax, totaled five interceptions on the night which helped the Aggies to their first victory over rival UTEP since Sept. 20, 2008 and ended an eight-game losing streak.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Rogers, Laforce Named Sun Belt Players Of The Week

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Sun Belt Conference announced the football player of the week awards on Monday. New Mexico State quarterback Tyler Rogers took offensive player of the week and safety Ron LaForce earned the defensive honors.

In the 30-28 victory over Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico, quarterback Tyler Rogers was 34-for-57 for a total of 401 yards with a career-high four touchdowns. Rogers spread the ball around connecting with 10 different receivers on the night.

The Peoria, Ariz. natives 401 yards and four touchdowns are second in the Sun Belt Conference for individual game-highs in 2017 and his 81-yard connection with Izaiah Lottie on Saturday is the longest pass this season of all Sun Belt quarterbacks.  Continue Reading This Post >>

27 NMSU Football Players Earn Sun Belt Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Sun Belt Conference named over 2,100 athletes to the 2016-17 Commissioner's List and Academic Honor Roll in an announcement on Tuesday. The New Mexico State football team saw 27 student-athletes earn recognition for their hard work in the classroom.

A student named to the Commissioner's List maintained a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2016-17 academic year while the Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the academic year.

Heading into 2017-18, the Aggies have 13 current players who were recognized for academic excellence last season. Parker Davidson, Dalton Herrington, Billy Nipp, Sy Slater, Jamin Smith, Jacob Wilson and Jaden Wright were all named to the Commissioner's List. The Academic Honor Roll featured current players Jonathan Boone, Cassius Corley, Izaiah Lottie, Jared Phipps, Humberto Renteria and Jackson Solbeck.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Larry Rose III Named To 2017 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

TYLER, TX - New Mexico State running back Larry Rose III was named to the 2017 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, as announced by SPORTyler and the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the nation’s college offensive player of the year who was either born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school and/or played at a Texas-based junior college. The player must also exhibit characteristics that define Earl Campbell, including integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, community and tenacity.

For this award, a player is recognized by a selection committee comprised of Texas-based journalists, college football dignitaries and, in subsequent years, each of the all-time winners.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Announces Home-And-Home Series With Utah State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State football program locked in a home-and-home series with Utah State in 2018 and 2021. The announcement now puts NM State at nine games for the 2018 season.

When the deal was finalized NM State Athletics Director Mario Moccia said, "I’d like to thank John Hartwell (Utah State Athletics Director) for agreeing to this series. This game will be of interest to our fans as we square off against a regional opponent from the old Western Athletic Conference. ”

Game one between the adversaries has NM State traveling to Logan, Utah, for a match up on Sept. 8, 2018. Utah State then makes the trip into Las Cruces, N.M., for the game in Aggie Memorial Stadium on Nov. 6, 2021.

The two teams square off for the first time since Oct. 20, 2012 which saw the Crimson and White fall to Utah State, 41-7, on the road.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Rose III, Theisler And Wright Earn Preseason All-Sun Belt Honors

NEW ORLEANS, LA - New Mexico State Football's Larry Rose III, Payton Theisler and Jaden Wright were named to the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Teams on Friday in anticipation of media day next week.

"We are expecting great things from these young men and also think several others will make a name for themselves," Aggie head football coach Doug Martin said. "This is proof again of how well our staff has recruited and how far the program has come."

This is the second-straight year Rose III has been named preseason all-conference first-team.
Theisler earned preseason first-team honors for special teams while Wright was named a preseason all-conference second-team honoree on defense. It was the first time for both Theisler and Wright.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football Picked 10th By Sun Belt Coaches In 2017 Preseason Poll

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The New Mexico State football team was selected to finish 10th in the 2017 Sun Belt Preseason Poll that was released Thursday afternoon.

The preseason poll was voted on by each member institution’s head coach, which saw NM State tally 41 points – including one first-place vote. The 41 points have the Aggies ahead of Texas State (31 points) and incoming member Coastal Carolina (26 points).

Appalachian State (136 points) was picked to win the league by nine points over Troy (127) thanks to seven first-place votes while the Trojans collected two. Arkansas State, who tied for the league title last year with App State, was predicted to finish in third with 122 points and a first-place vote followed by South Alabama (98 points).  Continue Reading This Post >>

Jaden Wright Named To 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List

DALLAS, TX - New Mexico State football’s defensive back Jaden Wright was named to the 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List on Thursday the Football Writers Association of America and Charlotte Touchdown Club announced.

Wright, who saw action in all 12 games in 2016, finished last season fifth on the team with 81 tackles (32 solo) and a team-high four forced fumbles to go with his one fumble recovery. The 6-0 defensive back also led the team with five interceptions and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss.

The Lewisville, Texas, native registered 10 tackles on the road at Kentucky and then posted a season-high 15 tackles at home against Appalachian State. His interception against Louisiana saw him run the back for 45 yards.  Continue Reading This Post >>
