Walker Announces Additional Coaching Staff Changes

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Head Coach DeWayne Walker announced Monday afternoon that offensive line coach Jason Lenzmeier has accepted a coaching position at the University of New Mexico.

Lenzmeier worked at UNM from 2006-07, first as a graduate assistant then the offensive line coach. He is a graduate of UNM and played football for the Lobos from 1999-03.

Aggies Earn Six All-WAC Football Spots

With the 2011 season complete for the Aggies, the postseason awards have started to roll in for the New Mexico State football team. The WAC announced their All-WAC honors on Monday and five Aggies earned six spots on the All-WAC teams.

Senior defensive back Donyae Coleman led the way for the Aggies garnering First Team Defense honors while senior WR/KR Taveon Rogers earned First Team Special Teams honors. Rogers also earned Second Team Offense honors for his play at wide receiver.

Sophomore offensive lineman Davonte Wallace and junior running back Kenny Turner were also named to the All-WAC Second Team on offense while senior defensive back Jonte Green was named to the Second Team on defense.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Walker Announces Staff Defensive Staff Changes For 2012 Season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach DeWayne Walker announced Monday morning that defensive coordinator Dale Lindsey and defensive line coach Jesse Williams will not return for the 2012 season.

"I am appreciative of Coach Lindsey’s and Coach Williams’ efforts and their service to New Mexico State University and the Las Cruces community," Walker said. "We will move quickly and efficiently in order to bring the best coaches possible to our football program. I continue to have great expectations for this program and I will bring in coaches that can help us reach those goals."

A national search for a defensive coordinator and defensive line coach will begin immediately.

Taveon Rogers Named WAC Special Teams Player Of The Week, CFPA Kickoff Returner Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State kick returner Taveon Rogers was named the Western Athletic Conference special teams players of the week as well as one of the College Football Performance Award weekly Kickoff Returner Performer of the Week for his performance in the Aggies' 48-45 victory over Fresno State this past Saturday.

Rogers returned eight kickoffs for 246 yards averaging 30.75 yards per kickoff return and returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter giving the Aggies a 20-10 lead at the time.

Rogers set a New Mexico State record for all-purpose yards in a game with 412 yards as he also caught ten passes for 166 yards including the game-winning touchdown.

This is Rogers' second WAC honor of the season as he earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors in the Aggies' opening week game against Ohio.

Niumatalolo Earns Academic All-District Award

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State senior defensive lineman David Niumatalolo was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team, for the second straight year, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced, Thursday, Nov. 10.

Niumatalolo, a member of the Aggie football team, now qualifies for the All-America honor, which will be released later this month. A native of Kahuku, Hawai'i, Niumatalolo has a 4.0 G.P.A. in biology.

This season, Niumatalolo has played in nine games for the Aggies recording 49 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, three quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He currently ranks fourth in the WAC in sacks per game and 19th in the nation.

Matt Christian Named WAC Offensive Player Of The Week

ENGLEWOOD, CO - New Mexico State quarterback Matt Christian has been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against New Mexico this past weekend. This is Christian’s first conference player of the week award and the third for the Aggies this season.
 
Christian, a senior from San Diego, Calif. (Palomar JC), completed 16-of-27 passes for a career-high 296 yards and a career-high four touchdowns with no interceptions in New Mexico State's 42-28 win at New Mexico. Christian also rushed for a career-high 101 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. He had 397 yards of total offense and accounted for five of the six Aggie touchdowns in the game.
 
Christian was also named College Sports Madness WAC Offensive Player of the Week, Rivals.com WAC Conference Player of the Week and College Football Performance Awards named him an Honorable Mention Quarterback of the Week.

Taveon Rogers Added To Biletnikoff Award Watch List

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State wide receiver Taveon Rogers has been added to the 2011 Biletnikoff Watch List. The award is named for Fred Biletnikoff, the Florida State University All-America receiver and a Pro-Football Hall of Famer. The award has been given out for the past 16 years.

Rogers has caught 14 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Aggies. He has also tallied 494 all-purpose yards including 255 kick return yards. Rogers leads the Aggies in scoring with four touchdown receptions and one kick return for a touchdown.

The recipient of the 2011 Biletnikoff Award will be announced live on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 8th. The Biletnikoff Award Presentation Banquet will be held at the University Center Club at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday, February 11, 2012.

Manley And Green Earn WAC Player of the Week Awards

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State quarterback Andrew Manley and defensive back Jonte were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, after the Aggies defeated Minnesota this past weekend, 28-21.

This was the second time since the Aggies have been a member of the WAC that NM State has grabbed two WAC Player of the Week winners in the same week.

Manley, a sophomore from Wahiawa, O‘ahu (Leilehua HS), was 20-of-31 for 288 yards and three touchdowns in New Mexico State’s 28-21 win at Minnesota. He completed his first 12 pass attempts in giving the Aggies a 21-7 lead in the first half. The win was the first ever for New Mexico State against a Big Ten team and the first win over a team from an automatic qualifying BCS conference team since 1999.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Taveon Rogers Earns WAC And National Awards

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State kick returner Taveon Rogers was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week and National Kick Returner of the Week by CollegeFootballPerformance.com for his performance against Ohio.

Rogers, a senior from Lancaster, Calif. (Lancaster HS), returned four kickoffs for 177 yards in New Mexico State’s game against Ohio. He had his first return for a touchdown in the third quarter that went for a career-long 97 yards. Rogers had a total of 259 all-purpose yards in the game as he also caught five passes for 92 yards and another touchdown. This is Rogers’ first WAC Player of the Week award.
