It's no secret that the two biggest games every year for Aggie football fans are the rivalry games against I-10 rival UTEP and in-state rival New Mexico and are generally the highest attended games each season. The games are so important for many fans that often times other big matchups are often not as well attended by Aggie fans.
With the football team off to a rough start in 2010, Aggie fans have still come out strong to support their team and that reflected in the final numbers from this past Saturday's game against No. 3 Boise State, the highest ranked opponent to ever visit Aggie Memorial Stadium.
In fact, the Aggies set a single-game record for gross sales for a non-rivalry game purchasing 7,109 single-game tickets (excludes season tickets) for a total gross revenue of $104,569, nearly double amount of the highest grossing game from the 2009 season. The 7,109 tickets purchased is second only to the 9,363 tickets that were sold when the Pac-10's Oregon State visited Aggie Memorial Stadium in 2001.
A total of 19,661 fans saw the Aggies and Broncos square off on Saturday evening.
"I think it's been great," said head football coach DeWayne Walker when asked about the fan support this season. "I think the San Diego State, our first game, there was great support. This last game, it was great support. From that standpoint I think our fanbase has picked it up."
The Aggies host in-state rival New Mexico on Saturday and the Aggie football team is hoping for another strong showing from the Aggie fanbase. "I'm sure this game we'll have great support," said Coach Walker.
The Aggies and Lobos kick off at 6:00 p.m. MT at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Tickets can be purchased the at NM State Ticket office or by calling (575) 646-1420.
