Pascal Siakam Named USBWA All-District

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The honors keep rolling in for New Mexico State forward Pascal Siakam as he has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's All-District VIII Team.

Siakam has led the Aggies (22-9, 13-1) to a repeat regular season WAC Championship. NM State is now after its fifth straight WAC Tournament Championship this week at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The 6-9 sophomore from Douala, Cameroon is one of the 10 players chosen to the All-District team by the sportswriters and is now eligible for the USBWA's All-America team.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State's Siakam WAC Player Of The Year, Baker First Team All-WAC

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State sophomore Pascal Siakam was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and joins teammate junior Ian Baker on the first team as the conference released the 2016 All-WAC Teams today.

The duo led the Aggies (22-9, 13-1) to a repeat regular season WAC Championship and now seek to claim a fifth straight WAC Tournament Championship this week at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Pascal Siakam Named WAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State’s Pascal Siakam is the first Western Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the 2015-16 season after his strong play in the first two games of the season.

Siakam, the media’s choice as the WAC’s Preseason Player of the Year, opened up the year with a boom.

The Douala, Cameroon, native averaged 25.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks as the Aggies went 1-1 on the week. In a season-opening win over Houston Baptist, he finished with a career-high 28 points on 67 percent shooting and recorded his eighth career double-double as he added 11 rebounds to go with three blocks. Siakam followed it up with 23 points, eight boards and four blocks in a loss to New Mexico Sunday.

Media Selects Aggies As Preseason Favorite, Siakam As Preseason Player Of The Year

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball media have selected NM State as the preseason favorite to win the conference crown during the 2015-16 season and Aggie sophomore forward Pascal Siakam as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year.

The Aggies received 13 first-place votes, earning 110 points. Grand Canyon was picked to finish second with 88 points, just ahead of Missouri-Kansas City in third with 87 points. CSU Bakersfield was picked to finish fourth with 76 points and one first-place vote, followed by Seattle U in fifth with 55 points. Utah Valley was picked to finish in sixth place with 37 points, followed by UT Rio Grande Valley in seventh with 34 points and Chicago State in eighth with 17 points.

Reigning WAC Freshman of the Year Siakam was voted Preseason Player of the Year and is the on the Preseason All-WAC first team. Joining him on the first team are teammate Ian Baker, Aly Ahmed of CSU Bakersfield, DeWayne Russell of Grand Canyon and Martez Harrison of UMKC.

The Preseason All-WAC second team is comprised of Grand Canyon’s Joshua Braun, UT Rio Grande Valley’s Shaquille Hines, Kevin Mays of CSU Bakersfield and Seattle U’s William Powell and Deshaun Sunderhaus.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Coaches Select Aggie Men's Basketball As Preseason Favorites

LAS VEGAS, NV - NM State is the unanimous preseason favorite to win the Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball title in 2015-16, while Missouri-Kansas City junior Martez Harrison was selected as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year in a vote of the league’s eight head coaches, who could not vote for their own team or players.

The Aggies received 49 points and seven first-place votes to beat out Grand Canyon for top spot. The Antelopes captured second place with 39 points. CSU Bakersfield came in third with 36 points and the other first-place vote, edging out Missouri-Kansas City in fourth place with 35 points. Seattle U came in fifth place with 22 points, just ahead of Utah Valley in sixth with 20 points. UT Rio Grande Valley (13) and Chicago State (10) round out the poll.

Harrison, the reigning WAC Player of the Year, leads the list of Preseason All-WAC honorees. Joining him on the first team are CSU Bakersfield’s Aly Ahmed, NM State’s Ian Baker and Pascal Siakam and Grand Canyon’s DeWayne Russell.

NM State Announces 2015-16 Men's Basketball Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The defending outright Western Athletic Conference Champion New Mexico State Aggies announced a challenging 31-game 2015-16 men’s basketball schedule that features games against nine postseason tournament teams from last season.

The Aggies face five teams from last season’s NCAA Tournament in 2015-16, with Robert Morris and Wyoming coming to the Pan American Center and road contests at Wichita State, Baylor and UC Irvine.

The Aggies went 23-11 last season while winning the outright WAC Championship by five games with a 13-1 conference record. The Aggies won their fourth consecutive WAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth as well.

Additionally, NM State has a pair of games with I-10 rival UTEP, an NIT participant, a home game with CBI participant Oral Roberts and two games with I-25 rival New Mexico.  Continue Reading This Post >>
