LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State men’s basketball head coach Marvin Menzies has hired Tom Lewis as the team’s new coordinator of player development. Lewis joins the Aggies with a wealth of experience at the professional, college and high school levels.

"Adding Tom Lewis was a huge coup for us," Menzies said. "Tom brings an extensive breadth of knowledge to the program. He has worked with training NBA players such as Tyson Chandler. We’re very pleased and appreciative that Tom was wanted to come back to the college level with the Aggies."

In the 2009-10 season, Lewis was an assistant coach for the Cal State Los Angeles men’s basketball team. He spent the previous five years, from 2003-08, as the head boy’s basketball coach at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., following a stint as a women’s assistant coach at Rutgers in 2002-03.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - With staff departures, New Mexico State men’s basketball head coach Marvin Menzies has shuffled the deck. He promoted Gerald Lewis to assistant coach and brought back former Aggie Trei Steward as the strength and conditioning coach.

Lewis enters his fourth year with the Aggies and was the coordinator of player development for the previous three seasons.

"The continuity of transitioning from losing (assistant) coach (Chris) Pompey to hiring Gerald Lewis was a no-brainer after going through the interviewing process," Menzies said. "Gerald's professional playing experience along with his familiarity with NM State makes a perfect fit going forward."

Steward returns to NM State after a year away from the program. He was a center for the Aggies from 2006-08 and was a graduate assistant in 2008-09.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State men’s basketball team is slated to play in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament during the 2010-11 season, the organization in Springfield, Mass., announced Wednesday, May 12. The event takes place at the MassMutual Center, Saturday, Nov. 20 and Sunday Nov. 21. Eight schools are participating in two brackets of four teams over two days in an NCAA exempt tournament.

In addition to the two brackets that are playing in Springfield, each of the participating schools will play against each other in two additional games to be hosted on campus by Bradley University, New Mexico State University, University of Massachusetts and University of Southern California.

In games scheduled for Nov. 20 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Bradley meets USC and the Aggies are facing UMass. The winners and losers of the Saturday games play on Sunday in the consolation and championship games.

"After looking at last year’s schedule, it was evident that we needed a tournament," head coach Marvin Menzies said. "We wanted a tournament with a high level of competition, and the opportunity to go to the Hall of Fame is a nice benefit to the tournament. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State men’s basketball head coach Marvin Menzies has announced that junior guard Jahmar Young is not returning for his senior season and redshirt freshman guard Jacoby Patton has been dismissed from the team indefinitely, Tuesday, April 13.

"Jahmar Young will forgo his senior season at New Mexico State University," Menzies said. "He is in the process of hiring an agent and will pursue his professional career immediately. We wish Jahmar success in his future endeavors."

"On another note, Jacoby Patton has been dismissed from the team indefinitely," he said.

The WAC announced the 2009-2010 Academic All-WAC teams for the winter sports and a total of 36 Aggies were honored. The women's track and field team led the way with a total of 16 honorees while swimming and diving followed closely behind with 14 honorees. The women's basketball team placed a total of five players on the list while men's basketball had one.

The 36 Aggie student-athletes join the 33 honorees for the 2009 Fall Academic All-WAC Teams. The Aggies placed six more student-athletes on the Academic All-WAC Teams for the winter sports than they did last year.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests. The following is a list of the winter sport honorees:  Continue Reading This Post >>
