NMSU Volleyball Ends 2007 Season Nationally Ranked

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After another successful season for the New Mexico State volleyball team, the Aggies were ranked No. 21 in the final AVCA/CSTV poll.

NMSU, who finished 26-6 and made it to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season and for the fourth time in five years, was nationally ranked for 13 straight weeks since entering the poll, Sept. 17, 2007.

"This was another great season for our team and for our program as a whole," head coach Mike Jordan said. Oguh Receives All-American Honor

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball player, senior Kim Oguh earned All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) when the all-American teams were announced, Wednesday, Dec. 12.

This was the third straight year Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS) earned all-American honors and is the first to earn that honor three consecutive seasons. She earned first-team all-region honors last week, along with junior Amber Simpson (Quincy, Ill.) who was named to the honorable mention all-region team.

"This is obviously an honor and I never imagined this could happen," Oguh said. "Three consecutive all-American honors is something I never expected and it's great to end my career on such a high note."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Oguh Named To AVCA All-Region Team; Simpson Receives Honorable Mention

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior Kim Oguh was named to the AVCA All West-Region team for the third consecutive year, while junior Amber Simpson was named to the honorable mention team as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS), a 2007 first team All-WAC selection, finished the year with 376 kills (3.33/g), and a team leading 141 total blocks (1.25/g). She was fourth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .325 hitting percentage. Oguh also had 36 service aces on the year.

"We're very proud Kim and she had a fantastic career," head coach Mike Jordan said. "There are few players that have ever been first team all-region region three straight years, and I'm especially proud at what she did this year with new, young, inexperienced setters. NMSU Volleyball Signs Two In Early Signing Period

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head coach Mike Jordan announced the signing of two players to national letters of intent during the early signing period Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Kelsey Brennan (Snohomish, Wash.) and Jennah DeVries (Denver, Colo.) signed national letters of intent to play and attend school at New Mexico State University during the fall of 2008.

"We're excited to sign both of these players, because they are both exceptionally talented athletes who come from great club programs," Jordan said. "They are both great women and should help the team immediately."

Brennan, a 6-2 middle hitter, will come to NMSU from Monroe High School where she played volleyball, basketball and track. She played volleyball from 2004-07 where she helped her team to a runner-up finish in 2006 and 2007, while her team finished third in district in 2006. She was earned all-league honors from 2005-07 and all-area honors in 2006 and 2007.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Bostic Earns Academic All-American Honors

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Senior defensive specialist Jordan Bostic, of the No. 14 New Mexico State volleyball team, was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team selected by CoSIDA, the organization announced Wednesday.

This is the first year that Bostic has earned this prestigious honor. As a junior, Bostic was a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI selection.

Head coach Mike Jordan said he was pleased with Bostic’s selection as she has continued to set the standard for Aggie Volleyball as a true student-athlete.

"Jordan works so hard at everything she does on and off the court," Jordan said. "All her hard work has paid off. She takes great pride in her class work and we are extremely proud of her."  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Volleyball Headed To Austin For First Round Of NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Tournament field has been announced and the Aggies are headed to Austin, TX for a first round matchup against Louisiana State University (24-7). LSU was the top team in the West Division of the SEC finishing with a conference mark of 15-5. LSU was last in action against Tulane last night, losing a five game match.

The Aggies were last in action on November 17th, losing in the championship match of the WAC Volleyball tournament to Hawai'i.

Should NMSU advance to the second round, they would face #3 Texas or Texas State. The Aggies faced #3 Texas early in the season, falling in three games. Texas is the co-champion of the Big XII conference, sharing the honor with defending national champion Nebraska. Texas State is the tournament champion of the Southland Conference. Texas State won the tournament as the fifth seed.

The match times have yet to be announced.

Fellow WAC member Hawai'i will face Tennessee State in the first round.

Altermatt Named WAC Volleyball Player Of The Week

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference office named sophomore Krista Altermatt of the New Mexico State volleyball team WAC Player of the week on Monday, September 17 for her great play during the week of September 10-16.

Altermatt (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) had a career night against Fresno State to help the Aggies to a sweep in a conference opener. Head coach Mike Jordan was pleased with the growth of the sophomore outside hitter.

"Krista (Altermatt) played well, and she's getting better as the season goes on," Jordan said. "She would have been a starter for us last season if she was healthy, and now she is an she's playing pretty well and I'm happy for her."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Yon Named WAC Volleyball Player of the Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State junior volleyball player, Lindsey Yon (San Antonio, Texas) was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week by the WAC office on Monday, Aug. 27 for her play this past weekend.

Yon led the Aggies to a first-place finish at the Hilton Garden Inn NAU Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz. where she had a team leading 44 kills in three matches. For her play there, she was named tournament MVP for the first time in her collegiate career.

"Being named WAC Player of the Week was clearly unexpected for me and I am ecstatic about the award," Yon said. "I've just hoping to keep up with all the girls on our team, as far as on court performance, and I didn't really expect to get any awards like this."

Head coach Michael Jordan couldn't be more proud of Yon as she has come back strong from a past arm injury to help his team to a 4-0 start this season.   Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Ready for Season Opening Tournament

ACROSS THE NET The New Mexico State volleyball team will open up the 2007 season playing four games in three days. They begin with the Hilton Garden Inn NAU Invitational for three games before returning to Las Cruces, N.M. for a home match at the Pan American Center.

The Aggies will take on Albany on Friday, Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m., UC Davis on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 10:00 a.m. and Northern Arizona at 7:00 p.m. to wrap-up the two-day tournament. After the tournament, the Aggies play their first home match of the season at the Pan American Center against Texas Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26.  Continue Reading This Post >>
