Aggie Volleyball Picked To Finish Second; Brennan, DeVries, Scott Named To Preseason All-WAC Team

DENVER, CO - The New Mexico State Aggie volleyball team was picked to finish second by the league's coaches in the preseason coaches' poll. New Mexico State is coming off an 18-13 season which saw them finish 12-4 in conference play. The Aggies were eliminated in the conference tournament semifinals by eventual tournament champion Utah State.

The Aggies return a core group of players including senior All-American setter Jennah DeVries and senior middle hitter Kelsey Brennan. Both players were named to the preseason All-WAC team along with sophomore middle hitter Desiree Scott. The Aggies' three preseason All-WAC selections put them second behind preseason favorite Hawai'i who placed four on the preseason All-WAC team. Defending tournament champion Utah State also had three preseason All-WAC selections.

The 2011 season begins the weekend of Aug. 26 with all eight teams in action. The 2011 WAC Volleyball Tournament will be held Nov. 21-23 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and will include the top six teams in the regular-season standings. The championship match will be televised live on ESPNU.

New Mexico State opens the season on Saturday, August 20th with the annual Alumni match and kicks off regular season play on Friday, August 26th and Saturday August 27th in Albuquerque at the MCM Elegante tournament where they will face Nebraska and South Florida. Fourteen Home Matches And Home Tournament Highlight 2011 Aggie Volleyball Season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State University head coach Mike Jordan has announced the 2011 volleyball schedule, which features seven teams that made it to last year's NCAA Tournament and five teams that were either in the top 25 or receiving votes in the national poll.

The Aggies open the season with Nebraska, who made it to the third round of the NCAA tournament, in Albuquerque August 26 during a tournament hosted by UNM. Other NCAA Tournament participants on the Aggies' schedule for 2011 include LSU, Northwestern, Utah State, University of New Mexico, Hawai'i and Colorado State. CSU finished the 2010 season ranked No. 16 in the nation, while the Cornhuskers were the highest ranked team that NM State will face this year as they came in No. 7 at the end of the season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Jordan Adds Two More To 2011 Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball head coach recently announced that two student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play volleyball and attend school at NM State starting next fall.

Gwen Murphy and Kiley Mansfield have signed with the Aggies to play under Jordan and to attend classes at NM State.

Mansfield comes to NM State from Pleasant Valley High School in Chico Calif. As a Viking she participated in volleyball, softball and basketball. Mansfield was named to the all-league team and first team all-section in volleyball, was the team most valuable player during her junior and senior years. She was also named Under Armour Player of the Week in 2010-11.

“Kiley is a tall, physical outside hitter that can play the left or right side,” Jordan said. “She’s 6’2 with long arms and she’s competitive. She hits the ball well out of the back row and can compete for playing time right away.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Keith Rubio Hired As Aggie Volleyball Assistant

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Head coach Mike Jordan announced that Keith Rubio will be the next assistant coach for the New Mexico State volleyball team, Thursday, Feb. 17.

"We're really excited to have Keith (Rubio) on staff," Jordan said. "He's a tireless worker and a great guy. He'll bring a lot of energy and experience to the gym and handle a lot of our day to day recruiting."

Before coming to New Mexico State, Rubio spent seven seasons as head coach at Quincy University. He guided the Hawks to 13 wins in 2008 and increased the teams win total in his first three years. He also led the Lady Hawks to a 19-14 record in 2007, their highest win total since 1998.

Rubio was the assistant head coach of the women's volleyball team at the University of Oregon. He worked as the program's recruiting coordinator and camp director. He worked with the setters, middle hitters and liberos.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Forty Two Fall Sports Aggie Athletes Earn Academic All-WAC

DENVER, CO - The 2010-11 Academic All-WAC men’s and women’s cross country, football, soccer and volleyball teams were announced for fall. A total of 330 WAC student-athletes were named to the list for the fall including 42 student-athletes from New Mexico State. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests. 2010 Aggie Volleyball Season Review

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State volleyball team finished second in the Western Athletic Conference for the fifth time in six years in 2010 after finishing 12-4 in league play.

Head coach Mike Jordan is proud of his program and how his student-athletes showed adversity, fighting through injuries and other obstacles throughout the year. The Aggies ended the year with an 18-13 record while Jordan took his career-record to 285-128 (.690), needing just fifteen more wins to reach the 300-milestone.

The Aggies were picked second in the preseason coaches poll, receiving 57 points and earning one first-place vote. Senior outside hitters Kayleigh Giddens and Whitney Woods were selected as Preseason All-WAC selections along with junior setter Jennah DeVries and junior middle hitter Kelsey Brennan. Texas Tech To Name Aggie Volleyball Assistant Don Flora As Next Head Coach

LUBBOCK, TX - Texas Tech University is holding a press conference, Friday, Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. (CT) to announce the hiring of Don Flora as their eight volleyball head coach in school history.

Flora has spent the past two seasons with the Aggies and helped the team to a 38-22 record while holding the top-assistant position under head coach Mike Jordan. Flora spent his tenure at NM State as the recruiting coordinator and his responsibilities to the program included directing recruiting activities, daily practice instruction with the student-athletes and involvement in daily program growth and development.  Continue Reading This Post >>
