LEXINGTON, KY - New Mexico State sophomore Meredith Hays has earned honorable mention honors on the 2012 All-West Region team that was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), Tuesday, Dec. 4. She is one of three WAC volleyball players to be selected to the team.

The outside hitter and native of Hereford, Texas joins Utah State's Shay Sorenson as an honorable mention honoree, while UTSA's McKenzie Adams was selected to the team.

Hays, the reigning West Region Freshman of the Year, was named MVP of the WAC Tournament after leading the fourth-seeded Aggies to the title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. She ranked third in the WAC in kills (3.92) and points (4.48) and fifth in service aces (0.28) per set. A first team All-WAC selection, she was named WAC Player of the Week once this season.

2012 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship Bracket

Four days after capturing their first WAC tournament championship sealing their first trip to the NCAA tournament since the 2008 season the New Mexico State (22-10) volleyball team learned their first round opponent. The Aggies will face No. 12 national seed BYU (26-3) from the West Coast Conference. The match will be played in Provo, Utah on Friday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m. (MT).

The Cougars tied for the WCC regular season title with San Diego but won the conference's automatic bid via a tiebreaker. The Cougars are 26-3 overall and 12-0 at home. SAN ANTONIO, TX - The 2012 WAC volleyball award winners, as selected by the league’s head coaches, were announced tonight at the WAC Tournament banquet. UTSA junior outside hitter McKenzie Adams was named WAC Player of the Year, while teammate Annie Kunes was named Libero of the Year. Utah State’s Elle Brainard captured Freshman of the Year honors, while head coach Grayson DuBose was named WAC Coach of the Year.

Nine of the 10 schools were represented on the teams, led by top-seeded Utah State with four players on the first team and two on the second team. No. 3 seed UTSA had one player on the first team and three on the second team, while Idaho and New Mexico State both had two first-team selections and one second-team pick.

Adams earned WAC Player of the Year honors after leading the league in kills (4.73) and points (5.30) and ranking seventh in digs (3.77) per set. She was named WAC Player of the Week five times during the season and posted double-doubles in 13 of the 18 WAC matches. In the most recent NCAA statistics, Adams ranked 25th nationally in kills per set and 33rd in points per set.

Kunes earned Libero of the Year honors after leading the WAC with 5.39 digs per set. The freshman posted double-digit digs in 15 of the 16 WAC matches in which she played and had 20 or more digs in seven WAC matches. In the most recent NCAA statistics, the second team All-WAC pick ranked 64th nationally in digs per set.

Brainard earned Freshman of the Year honors, becoming the second Aggie to do so. She averaged 1.63 kills and 1.38 blocks per set in WAC play. Brainard ranks second in the WAC and 17th nationally in overall blocks per set. Her 143 block assists on the season rank third on the Aggies’ single-season list, while her 149 total blocks rank fourth.

DuBose led his team to its first-ever WAC regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament. This is the second time in his career he’s earned the honor (2007).  Continue Reading This Post >>

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State sophomore outside hitter Meredith Hays has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 20-26. This is the first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor for Hays.

The Hereford, Texas native tallied 63 kills, 29 digs, five assists and five blocks over three matches en route to earning MVP honors at the Northern Illinois Invitational last week. Hays averaged 5.25 kills on .348 hitting, 2.42 digs, 0.42 assists and 0.42 blocks as she led New Mexico State to the tournament title with wins over Wichita State, North Dakota State and Northern Illinois. She opened the week with 20 kills, eight digs and two blocks in a win over Wichita State, which received votes in the AVCA preseason poll. Against North Dakota State, Hays posted a double-double of 25 kills on .400 hitting and 10 digs. She closed out the tournament with 18 kills, 11 digs and three blocks at Northern Illinois for her 14th career double-double. LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball head coach Mike Jordan announced the 2012 volleyball schedule, Friday, June 15, which features a home tournament as well as five teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year.

"We're going to try to get as many wins against the top-75 RPI teams as we can," Jordan said. "The more teams we play at that level, the more chances we get for those quality wins."

The Aggies open the season on the road in the Northern Illinois Tournament from Aug. 24-25. Teams playing in the tournament include Northern Illinois, North Dakota State, and Wichita State.

After the Northern Illinois Tournament, NM State will host a home tournament featuring Drake, Northwestern, and Cincinnati. Their first home game will come during the tournament against Cincinnati, a participant in last years NCAA Tournament.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Aggie volleyball head coach Mike Jordan announced, Wednesday, Feb. 15 that Lauren Loerch will transfer from the California Golden Bears to play and attend school at New Mexico State University in the fall.

Loerch, a native of Georgetown, Texas and a cousin of former Aggie great Stevi Adams (Maytubby), played from 2010-11 for the Cal Bears and helped the team reach the NCAA Tournament this past season.

"We're really excited that Lauren is joining our program. When fans watch her play I think they will be in awe at how quick she is and how well she jumps," head coach Mike Jordan said. "She's 6'1 with great leaping ability, arm speed and a tremendous work ethic. She is really determined to become a great outside hitter and she'll do everything she can to help the team. As a person and as an athlete, Lauren is a great addition to the Aggie family."

Loerch brings experience with her as she played in 34 sets as a sophomore and 20 sets as a freshman. She knows what it is like to be in competitive environments as she played the Final Four during the 2010 season and helped the Bears to reach the 2010 NCAA Championship match.  Continue Reading This Post >>

DENVER, CO - Forty-nine student-athletes represented New Mexico State University when the Western Athletic Conference released the 2011 fall sports Academic All-WAC Team, Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The five sports represented were Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Soccer and Volleyball. Men’s and Women’s Cross Country received the most honors with 11 each, Football and Soccer tallied 10 apiece and Volleyball had seven student-athletes honored.

This list included the likes of All-American honorable mention Jennah DeVries, all-WAC selection Courtney Schultz and Academic All-American David Niumatalolo.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. The following is a list of the fall sport honorees:  Continue Reading This Post >>

Life after All-American setter Jennah DeVries starts in a couple months with spring practice but the Aggie volleyball team is getting some immediate help in the form of Virginia Commonwealth transfer Ciara Brown.

Brown, a 5'10" setter, is set to enroll in the spring semester at New Mexico State and will be a junior with two years of eligibility remaining at New Mexico State. In her freshman season she averaged a team-leading 6.46 assists per set and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie team. In 2011, Brown was limited to just eight matches due to an injury and averaged 4.54 assists per set.

Brown will join incoming freshman setter Taylor Livoti (Atoscocita HS, Humble, TX) along with sophomore Maggi Jo Keffury among the players looking to fill the setter position vacated by All-American Jennah DeVries.
