Scott Coffman's WAC Blog :: 04/19/11

Hello everyone,

The second week of conference play is over. We moved to 5-3 in WAC play this weekend, beating a tough San Jose team 3 out 4 games. We won the Friday night game, which was huge and the first game of the double header on Saturday. We lost the second game on Saturday; San Jose’s starter had a really good outing and we couldn’t figure out how to get to him soon enough. We did put up a late fight in the 7th inning, scoring three, but it wasn’t enough. We won the Sunday game, after a rocky start. We were trailing into the 4th inning and we managed to put up some big time numbers. That game finished in a run rule after seven innings.   Continue Reading This Post >>

Tyler Forney Named WAC Hitter Of The Week

Written By: NM State Athletic Dept.

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State second baseman Tyler Forney has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 11-17.

Forney, a junior from Gilbert, Ariz., helped the Aggies to a 3-1 record last week against San Jose State by hiting .600 (9-for-15) during the four-game series and struck out only once against a Spartan pitching staff that has the most strikeouts in the WAC. Forney was perfect at the plate in the final game of the series, going 4-for-4 with three RBI, no strikeouts and two runs scored.

"To do what we needed him to do and more is pretty impressive," head coach Rocky Ward said. "I am proud of his accomplishment and it shows how hard he has worked to get into the lineup and succeed."  Continue Reading This Post >>

Scott Coffman's WAC Blog :: 04/11/11

Hello again,

The NMSU baseball team wrapped up a four game series in Ruston, Louisiana today, splitting the series 2 to 2 with the Bulldogs. We played well for the most part, but dropped the ball in the last game. Unfortunately our offense went cold, but their pitcher did have a pretty good game on the bump.

We won the Friday night opener 4 to 2 and the second game of the double header 7 to 5. We lost the first game of the double header 7 to 0 and the Sunday game 10 to 0. Ryan Beck had an outstanding performance on Friday, pitching 8 innings, his longest appearance of the season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Scott Coffman's WAC Blog :: 04/04/11

Aggie junior closer Scott Coffman will be blogging for the WAC during the month of April. Here is the first of his blog entries.

Hello, this is Scott Coffman, relief pitcher for the New Mexico State Aggies baseball team. As of right now the team is 22-6 with only one home loss. We recently finished up a four game series with the Northern Colorado Bears, winning 3 out 4 games. We head into WAC play this next weekend with an away series at Louisiana Tech.

The team is very confident, and ready to start the part of the season that matters the most. So far we have been playing well, but there is always room for improvement. We feel that if we clean up the defense some and start pitching smarter we can certainly make a run at the WAC championship. For the most part everyone is healthy. We have a couple key players down at the moment, but by Thursday we should be back to full strength.   Continue Reading This Post >>
