DENVER, CO - Sophomore Parker Hipp has been selected as the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the second time this season by the WAC office for his play during the week of Feb. 28-March 6. He was also selected as WAC Hitter of the Week on February 21.

Hipp continues to stay hot at the plate as he hit .571 (8-of-14) and struck out only once in four-games during the YMBL/Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas. Hipp tallied a double, a grand-slam and nine RBI to go along with three walks and two runs scored.

DENVER, CO - Senior shortstop Ryan Aguayo earned Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the week of Feb. 21-27, as announced by the WAC office, Monday, Feb. 28.

The Pico Rivera native helped the Aggies to a 5-0 record last week with wins over in-state rival New Mexico and Buffalo. He had a stellar week at the plate with a .611 batting average as he went 11-for-18, with two perfect games.

"Aguayo has been working hard at our system since the day he arrived here," head coach Rocky Ward said. "He is the type of player every coach wants on his team because he leads by example and is also a very humble person."

Aguayo set a career-high in game one of the double-header, Feb. 27, when he tallied eight RBI. He had a perfect game at the plate going 4-of-4 with two home runs and one walk.   Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Sophomore Second baseman Parker Hipp showed in the first four games of the 2011 baseball season that he could be one of New Mexico State's bright young stars.

Hipp was named Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the week of Feb.14-20 after he was 6-for-11 with six RBI and five runs scored. He hit two doubles, a triple and one homerun in a sweep of Houston Baptist.

In a 13-8 win over the University of New Mexico, Hipp added another home run and brought his batting average to .571, the highest on the NM State baseball team. Hipp only hit one homerun all of last year.

Hipp, a native of San Diego, Calif., helped the Aggies to a season-opening sweep over Houston Baptist as he was 6-for-11 at the dish with six RBI and five runs scored. On the weekend he posted two doubles, a triple and a home run to go along with a 1.182 slugging percentage. He also got on base with three walks and was hit by a pitch once, while striking out only three times for a .667 on-base percentage.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The 2011 New Mexico State baseball team defeated the Aggie Alumni Team this past weekend but the coaches and fans didn't care as they were able to catch up with some of the all-time Aggie greats, finding out that some are still working hard to get to the next level.

Aggie baseball has had a lot of success in the past decade, the main reason being the outstanding players. A few players such as Tyler Sturdevant, Frankie Duran, Erik Nyquist and Bryan Marquez have either played at the next level or are still playing. Those players also showed up to the Alumni Game, Saturday, Feb. 12, to show their skills and to try to upset the 2011 Aggies.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After having a successful junior campaign in 2010 for the New Mexico State Baseball team, senior right-hand pitcher Dan Reid still thinks that there is room for improvement.

Last season Reid tied the team-high for wins with a 6-3 record in 14 starts. He also led the team in innings pitched with 73 1/3. He also finished the season with a 6.38 ERA and 50 K's. Reid showed great command throughout the season with only 13 walks and four wild pitches.

"On a scale of 1-to-10 I would rate last season as a six," Reid said. I was good with some things, bad with others."

Against Sacramento State, Reid pitched a season-high seven complete innings and only gave up two runs that game in route to a 4-2 Aggie win. In game two of a double header against Hawaii, Reid pitched 6 2/3 innings and gave up only one run.   Continue Reading This Post >>

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Four former All-Americans from New Mexico State will come back to play against the current Aggies in the Annual Alumni Game Saturday, Feb. 12, at Presley Askew field at 2:05 pm.

Since the first All-American selection in 1980 NM State has gone on to have 12 players named, eight of which have been under head coach Rocky Ward. Mark Aranda, Brian Marquez, and Billy Becher all played under coach Ward and will be returning for Saturday's game. The fourth All-American is Joe Williams who played from 1988-1990 under coach Elliott Avent.

"I always look forward to seeing so many of my former players come back to campus," Ward said. "It is hard to stay in touch once a players leaves your school, because they are so focused on starting their new jobs and new families. DENVER, CO - The New Mexico baseball team has been selected to finish fifth in the 2011 Western Athletic Conference regular season in a vote by the league's head coaches. The coaches also voted senior outfielder Chace Perkins to the preseason all-WAC team.

The Aggies received 16 points after finishing the 2010 season with a 36-23-1 record overall and a 14-9-1 conference record. NM State finished second in the regular season last year and was ousted in the second round of the WAC tournament losing to eventual WAC Tournament Champion Hawai'i.
