Malena Padilla Named WAC Hitter Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball outfielder Malena Padilla has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the week of Mar. 16-22, the conference announced Monday.

This is the first-ever hitter of the week award for the senior from Oakley, Calif. and the second-consecutive week the Aggies have won the award as Fiana Finua took the honor last week. It is also the fourth for NM State this season. Emma Adams picked up the first WAC Hitter of the Week award for the Aggies earlier this season and freshman Corrin Green followed a short time later.

“Malena has come through with clutch RBIs all season,” NM State head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I’m happy she has been recognized for her performance last week because it was pivotal for us.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Fiana Finau Named WAC Hitter Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Fiana Finau has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for March 9-15. This is the first honor of the season and third of her career for Finau.

Finau, a junior from Chula Vista, Calif., finished with a .444 batting average, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage in six games last week, posting a double, three home runs, 11 RBIs and a stolen base. Finau began the week by slamming a home run and finishing with three RBIs against Middle Tennessee. She then went 3-for-4 with two RBIs vs. Harvard. Finau’s big game of the week came in the final one of the weekend, a 14-0 Aggie victory over San Jose State. She finished 2-for-3 against the Spartans with two home runs, three runs scored and six RBIs.

Karysta Donisthorpe Named WAC Pitcher Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball right-hander Karysta Donisthorpe has been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday.

The redshirt junior from Farmington, N.M., picks up her third career pitcher of the week award after going 2-0 and also picking up her first save of the season this past weekend in round robin play at the NM State Softball Complex.

“Karysta showed great composure and maturity this weekend,” Aggie head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “On Friday she didn’t feel like she had her best stuff, but she made the most of what she had. Emma Adams Named WAC Softball Hitter Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Emma Adams has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for Feb. 9-15. This is the first-ever honor for Adams.

Adams, a junior third baseman from Corrales, N.M., had a hit in each of the Aggies’ five games last weekend, including two against Kansas and three against Bradley. She had eight hits in 18 at bats for a .444 batting average. Adams had two doubles, one home run, eight RBIs and two stolen bases over the five games and posted a .722 slugging percentage and .524 on-base percentage.

Karysta Donisthorpe Named WAC Pitcher Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State's Karysta Donisthorpe has been named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 2-8. This is the first honor of the season and second of her career for Donisthorpe.

Donisthorpe, a redshirt junior from Farmington, N.M., went 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in four appearances last week, leading the Aggies to all three of their wins during the Hotel Encanto Invitational. She pitched 16.1 innings, allowing only three earned runs while striking out 15. In 16.1 innings of work, she limited opponents to a .262 batting average.

Aggie Softball Tops WAC Preseason Coaches Poll; Rodriguez Selected As Preseason Player Of The Year

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State is the preseason favorite to win the 2015 Western Athletic Conference softball title in a vote of the league’s six head coaches, who could not vote for their own team.

The coaches also voted preseason award winners and Aggie Staci Rodriguez was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year and Missouri-Kansas City’s Katie Kelley was selected as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

The Aggies took the top spot in the preseason poll with 23 points and three first-place votes, edging out Grand Canyon in second place with 22 points and the other three first-place votes. Seattle U was third with 14 points, while Utah Valley and UMKC tied for fourth place with 13 points each. Bakersfield rounded out the poll with five points.

New Mexico State placed the most players on the Preseason All-WAC team with four, while Grand Canyon and Seattle U had three apiece and UMKC had two.

The 2015 season begins Thursday, Feb. 5. The 2015 WAC Softball Tournament will be held May 7-9, at the New Mexico State Softball Complex, and will include all five eligible teams.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Signs Six To Next Year’s Squad

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball team head coach Kathy Rodolph announced the signing of six high school players to National Letters of Intent to play softball for the Aggies beginning next season.

Among the players signing with NM State is a name local fans will recognize, Alexis Maynez who plays for Centennial High School in Las Cruces. Joining Maynez as part of this year’s signing class are Victoria Castro, Kayla Green, Kennedy Johnson, Emili Olague and Kelsey Horton.

“Our 2015 signing class can really be described in one word, ‘powerful,” Rodolph said. “These are all powerful student-athletes with tremendous drive and coachability. They have some big shoes to fill, but I believe they are excited and ready for the challenge.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Twelve Aggie Softball Players Earn NFCA Scholar Athlete Honors

Aggie softball players Haley Ann Nakamura, Morgan Lambert, Nicole Diaz, Devon Thomey, Misty Hoohuli, Tatum Reedy, Karysta Donisthorpe, Savannah Washington, Brennalyn Nakamura, Taylor Lewallen, Kristi Covarrubia and Chelsea Dohrwardt all earned 2014 NFCA Scholar Athlete honors for the 2013-14 academic year.

To receive the NFCA honor, the student-athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Aggie Softball Signs Local Star And Hawai’i Standout

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head softball coach Kathy Rodolph announced Monday the signing of Lucy Mendoza and Nue Sivia to the Aggie softball squad. The pair begins their freshman campaign during the 2014-15 season.

One of the names might sound familiar to softball fans in the Las Cruces area as Mendoza was a key member of the Onate High School softball team that came within one inning of winning the New Mexico state championship in May.

Mendoza was an all-district and all-state shortstop for the Knights last season, helping Onate to a 30-4 record. Onate was ranked No. 2 in New Mexico throughout the season and lost to top-ranked Rio Rancho in the state championship game in extra innings.  Continue Reading This Post >>
