Lacey Rother Named WAC Softball Hitter Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Lacey Rother has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 3-9. This is the first-ever honor for Rother.

Rother, a junior catcher from Long Beach, Calif., got a hit in each of the Aggies’ five games last weekend at the Hotel Encanto Invitational. She had two home runs on Sunday, including a game-winning grand slam against cross-border rival UTEP, helping the Aggies to an 8-6 win. She finished the weekend hitting .385 with three runs and five RBI while slugging .846.

Aggie Softball Picked To Win The WAC

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State is the preseason favorite to win the 2014 Western Athletic Conference softball title in a vote of the league’s six head coaches, who could not vote for their own team.

The Aggies took the top spot in the preseason poll with 25 points and five first-place votes, followed by Seattle U in second place with 19 points and the other first-place vote. Utah Valley was third with 14 points, just ahead of Bakersfield in fourth place with 13 points. Kansas City and Grand Canyon rounded out the poll with 10 and nine points, respectively.

The preseason All-WAC team, as selected by the coaches, was also announced.

The 2014 season begins Friday, Feb. 7, with all six teams in action. The 2014 WAC Softball Tournament, hosted by Seattle U, will be held May 8-10, at Logan Field in Seattle, and will include all five eligible teams.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggies Announce 2014 Softball Schedule

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head coach Kathy Rodolph announced the 2014 softball schedule, Friday, Nov. 22 featuring 14 home games including the annual Aggie-hosted Hotel Encanto Classic and Troy Cox Classic.
The NM State Aggies begin their season on Feb. 7-9 by hosting the Aggie Hotel Encanto Classic, which brings in Nebraska, UTEP, Florida St., and St. Mary’s.

Just five days after, NM State hosts the sixth annual Troy Cox Classic, a two-day tournament beginning on Feb. 14, 2014 where Northern Carolina University, Texas Tech, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Iowa State travel in to compete.

After, the Aggies travel south to El Paso, Texas to oppose ICW and Houston Baptist in the UTEP Tournament on Feb. 21-23.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Signs Four Players

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State head softball coach Kathy Rodolph announced the signing of four players to join the Aggies and play their first season in the spring of 2015. Rachel Rodriguez, Corrin Green, Dallas McBride and Amy Bergeson have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Aggies starting next fall.

Bergeson is from Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Ariz., where she is a utility player and spends time in the outfield. She was a first team all-division as a junior and was named most valuable offensive player the same season. She finished the 2013 season with a .466 batting average and 15 stolen bases. She’s ranked 21st in the state of Arizona after helping her 2013 team to a 22-11 record.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Amber Olive Earns Stan Bates Award

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State senior softball player Amber Olive was selected as the female 2012-13 Stan Bates Award winner by the Western Athletic Conference, announced Monday. The award honors the top male and female scholar-athlete in the WAC. The award is named in honor of former Commissioner Stan Bates and recognizes athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. The award includes a $3,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Olive, a Simi Valley, Calif., native earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and communications in May and has been a four-time Academic All-WAC selection for her work in the classroom. She was named to the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District teams and earned the NM State Psychology Department Heads Award for Academic Excellence while maintaining a 3.901 grade point average. Olive was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar Athlete in 2010 and 2011.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Amber Olive Nominated For 2013 NCAA Woman Of The Year Award

DENVER, CO - Seattle U volleyball player Kelly Biette, New Mexico State softball player Amber Olive and Louisiana Tech bowler Kayla Ghersini have been nominated for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The award acknowledges senior female student-athletes’ distinguished achievements in areas of service, leadership, athletics and academics. The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will select the top 10 winners in each NCAA division (I, II and III). From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will select the top three in each division. Finally, the members of the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics (CWA) will vote from among the top nine to determine the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Softball Earns Public Recognition Award

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The New Mexico State softball team was honored by the NCAA for their exemplary academic performance with the Public Recognition Awards announced Wednesday. This is the ninth time that a team from New Mexico State has been recognized and the second year that the softball team received the honor.

Broken down by sport, the Aggie softball team was honored for standing among the top 10 percent of all academic performing teams in the country in the multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR) for the 2011-12 academic year.

"Our program strives to excel in everything we do on the field, in the classroom and in service to our community," head coach Kathy Rodolph said. "I am very proud of our student-athletes and their commitment to excellence."

Top performing APRs ranged from 978 to a perfect 1,000 and a total of 976 teams were publicly recognized across all sports, including 593 women’s teams.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Amber Olive Earns CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American Honors

New Mexico State senior outfielder Amber Olive was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Softball second team as selected today (May 23) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Olive carried a 3.88 grade point average in communication studies.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 18,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Six Earn All-WAC Honors; Rodriguez Named Player Of The Year

RUSTON, LA - Six New Mexico State softball players were selected as part of the All-WAC teams for the 2013 season. Staci Rodriguez was named WAC Player of the Year and first team All-WAC. Amber Olive and Alex Newman also received first team All-WAC honors, while Kristi Covarrubia, Emma Adams and Malena Padilla were selected as part of the second team all-conference.

Rodriguez, a sophomore from Paramount, Calif., earns Player of the Year accolades after leading the WAC in home runs (9), RBI (26), total bases (56) and slugging percentage (.903) through league play. She ranks second in the conference for runs scored (16), fourth in batting average (.403) and on-base percentage (.507) and is sixth in hits (25). She was named WAC Hitter of the Week three times during the season and ranked as high as sixth in the nation for home runs. Amber Olive Named Academic All-District

LAS CURCES, N.M. - New Mexico State softball player Amber Olive earned Capitol One CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Olive is one of just three players from the Western Athletic Conference to receive the prestigious honor.

Joined by Louisiana Tech’s Erin Kipp and Seattle’s Allegra Wilde, Olive now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

The communications major from Simi Valley, Calif., earned a spot on the All-District 6 team for her success during her senior year. Olive carries a 3.88 grade point average and has started each of the Aggies 50 games this season. She leads the WAC in hits (71) and runs (39) and ranks second in batting average (.403). Her 71 hits this season puts Olive third on the all-time records list for hits in a single season.  Continue Reading This Post >>
