Aggies Sweep Weekly WAC Track And Field Honors

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Katara Nelson and Keyarha Wilson have been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 16-22.

Nelson, a senior from Arlington, T.X., ran a 25.04 in the 200m at the Cherry and Silver Invitational. She finished 14th of 54 in the 200m and her time is the best in the WAC this season.

Wilson, a freshman from Las Cruces, N.M., was the top DI finisher in the high jump at the Cherry and Silver Invitational. She finished third of 14, clearing a height of 1.70m, the best in the WAC this season.

NM State Women’s Track And Field Signs Seven For 2016-17

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State track and field head coach Orin Richburg announced the signing of seven student-athletes for the 2016-17 season on Thursday. The signing class includes four student-athletes from the Las Cruces and El Paso area.

“We were really pleased to get some local kids that athletically and academically will help our program,” said Richburg. “We tried to concentrate on our areas of need which are the middle distance and distance events. Coach Rath has done a great job recruiting to fill those needs. Since we are graduating two seniors in these events, I think we have done a good job replacing them with the signees we have. Overall, I think all of our signees, including all of the local talent, will help move our program forward.”

Katara Nelson Named WAC Track Athlete Of The Week

DENVER, CO - NM State's Katara Nelsonhas been named Western Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for April 18-24.

Nelson, a junior from Arlington, Texas (South Grand Prairie HS) put up new season best times in both the 100m and 200m at the Ross Black Open. In the 100m, she finished with a time of 11.82. In the 200m, she finished with a time of 24.14. She currently leads the WAC in both events with these times.

WAC Announces All-Academic Honors for 2015 Spring Sports, Freshmen and Transfers, Sixty-Six Aggies Honored

DENVER, CO - The 2015 Academic All-WAC baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field teams have been announced, in addition to the Academic All-WAC freshmen/transfer teams for all sports.

A total of 311 spring student-athletes were named to the list, while 400 freshmen and transfers were added for a total of 711 student-athletes. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Kayli Farmer Named WAC Outdoor Field Athlete Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Kayli Farmer has been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s field Athlete of the Week for April 27-May 3.

Farmer, a freshman from Aztec, N.M. (Aztec HS), won both the high jump and javelin throw at the UTEP Twilight last Friday. She cleared 1.61m in the high jump, good for second place in the WAC, and recorded a mark of 42.23m in the javelin throw, good for third place in the WAC.

Twenty Aggies Earn All-Academic Honors For Winter Sports

DENVER, CO - The 2014-15 academic All-WAC men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have been announced. A total of 276 winter student-athletes were named to the list including 20 New Mexico State student-athletes with the women's swimming and diving team garnering 13 honorees. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.

Orin Richburg Inducted Into Pittsburgh City League All-Sports Hall Of Fame

PITTSBURGH, PA - Orin Richburg, the New Mexico State head cross country and track and field coach, was named as one of the 15 inductees for the first annual Pittsburgh City League All-Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 13, organized by Achieving Greatness, Inc.

The event recognized 50 nominees and honored the 15 inductees into the City League’s own Hall of Fame.

“The honor for me to be included in the first group of 15 former city of Pittsburgh athletes that have excelled in their hometown is unbelievable,” Richburg said. “I have always strived to do the best I can under the circumstances presented. Jenna Banegas Named WAC Athlete Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State track and field athlete Jenna Bangegas was named the Western Athleteic Conference track athlete of the week for the week of March 17-23. This marks the first time Banegas has wonthis award.

Banegas, a graduate of Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, N.M., recently competed at the UTEP Springtime (March 22), where she set a personal best in both the 100-and-200-meter dash.

In the 100-meter dash, Banegas finished fourth overall with a time of 11.76, whichmarks the best time posted in the WAC.

Banegas finished eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 24.39. She was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay team and she helped them finish second with a time of 46.23.

The Aggies will be in action on Thursday, March 27-29, when they travel to San Marcos,Texas to compete at the Bobcat Invitational.

LaSasha Aldredge Named WAC Athlete Of The Week

DENVER, CO - LaSasha Aldredge of the New Mexico State University track and field team was named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 22-28.

Aldredge, a senior from Fresno, Calif. (Central East H.S.), finished fourth overall in the 400m with a time of 52.61, setting both a new record for the conference and a new all-time school record for NM State. Her time ranks tenth in the nation in the 400m. In the 200m Aldredge finished 11th overall with a time of 24.30. In the 4x100m relay, Aldredge helped the Aggies finish third overall with a time of 45.53, which now ranks third all-time for NM State. In the 4x400m relay, Aldredge and her teammates finished fourth overall with a time of 3:43.03, which places the squad second all-time for NM State.  Continue Reading This Post >>
