Aggie Student-Athletes Earn 34 Academic All-WAC Honors

DENVER, CO - The 2011-12 Academic All-WAC men and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, women's swimming and diving and gymnastics teams have been announced. New Mexico State placed 34 winter student-athletes on to the list.

LaSasha Aldredge Named WAC Athlete Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s LaSasha Aldredge has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week of March 19-25.

Aldredge, a junior from Fresno, Calif. (Central East HS), broke the all-time school record for the 400-meter dash when she placed first with a time of 54.28 (converted from 54.17 for altitude) in the event at the UTEP Springtime Invitational in El Paso, Texas last weekend. Her time in the event leads the WAC this season and currently ranks 14th in the nation. Aldredge also ran the 200-meter dash and helped mark school records in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. NM State’s 4x400 time of 3:46.20 leads the WAC and places fourth all-time for the Aggies, and the team’s 4x100 time of 46.26 is second in the conference and sixth all-time in the NM State record books.  Continue Reading This Post >>

LaSasha Aldredge Named WAC Athlete Of The Week

DENVER, CO - Junior LaSasha Aldredge of the New Mexico State University track and field team has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week of March 12-18.

Aldredge, from Fresno, Calif. (Central East HS), finished the 200- and 400-meters in WAC-leading times of 24.32 and 54.68, respectively, at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Ariz. over the weekend. Aldredge's time in the 200m is a career-best and places seventh all-time in the NM State record books. The junior also helped the Aggies finish the 4x100 relay with a WAC-leading time of 46.39 and the 4x400 relay in 3:50.61, which currently ranks second in the conference.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Christopher Huff Added To Cross Country And Track And Field Coaching Staff

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Head cross country and track and field coach Orin Richburg recently added Christopher Huff to assist the coaching staff with the upcoming indoor and outdoor track season.

Huff will be assisting in coaching the cross country teams, as well as the distance runners for the track and field team.

Huff's most recent coaching experience stems from New England College where he was the head coach for cross country from 2005-07. During his three-year tenure at New England College, Huff led his team to one Commonwealth Coast Conference championship and helped break nine school records in track and field. Huff also coached two CCC Rookie of the Year athletes and five CCC All-Conference athletes.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Three Aggies Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

DENVER, CO - Three Aggie track and field student-athletes were among a total of 32 WAC student-athletes named to the 2011 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team. Sophomores Courtney and Camille Schultz as well as junior Kelsey Brennan all earned the honor and were among the 21 female WAC student-athletes honored.

As a member of the Aggie volleyball team, Brennan also earned ESPN CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-District honors.

To qualify for the honor, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).  Continue Reading This Post >>

Incoming Freshman Earns 2010-11 Gatorade New Mexico Boys Track & Field Athlete Of The Year

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - In its 26th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, announced Eric Fenton of Hope Christian School as its 2010-11 Gatorade New Mexico Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Fenton is the first Gatorade New Mexico Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year to be chosen from Hope Christian School.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the track, distinguishes Fenton as New Mexico’s best high school boys track & field athlete.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Twenty Seven Aggies Earn Academic All-WAC Honors

DENVER, CO - The 2010-11 academic all-WAC men's and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, women’s swimming and diving and gymnastics teams have been announced. A total of 27 New Mexico State student-athletes earned Academic All-WAC honors. The women's basketball team had four honorees, the women's indoor track and field team placed seven honorees and the Aggie swimming and diving team had a total of 16 student-athletes make the list.

A total of 263 winter student-athletes were named to the list. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests. Aggie Track And Field Sending Five Athletes To NCAA West Prelims

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's track and field team earned five invites to the NCAA West Prelims in Eugene, Ore., to be held at the end of May.

Sisters Courtney and Camille Schultz will represent the Aggies in the 10,000m, while junior Jndia Cleveland will compete in the long jump and 400m hurdles.

Other Aggies invited were sophomore LaSasha Aldredge for the 400m-dash and senior Kelsey Brennan for the javelin throw.

The Schultz sisters placed first and second in the 10,000m at the WAC Championships with Camille taking first in a time of 36:53.48 and Courtney finishing closely behind in a time of 36:53.75.

Cleveland placed second at the WAC Championships in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.76 and was selected in the long jump for her overall body of work during the season.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Jndia Cleveland Wins WAC Honors For Second Straight Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State junior Jndia Cleveland won Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row.

Cleveland won WAC Track Athlete of the Week last week opposed to WAC Field Athlete of the Week this week.

Last week Cleveland turned in a stellar performance at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Ariz., after she broke the NM State all-time outdoor record in the 400m hurdles by running a 1:00.60. She also placed first in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.29 and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.59m. Lasasha Aldredge Named WAC Indoor Track Athlete Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State's Lasasha Aldredge and Hawai'i's Sarah Saddleton were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 10-16.

Aldredge, a sophomore from Fresno, Calif. (Central East HS), had a great start to the 2011 season at the University of New Mexico Lobo Open Invite in Albuquerque, N.M., on Jan. 15. Aldredge placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 57.27 seconds. Her time is the best mark in the WAC thus far in the early portion of the season. She was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed first finishing with a WAC-best time of 3:53.50. Aldrege also had a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters finishing with a time of 25.50.  Continue Reading This Post >>
