Mike McGilton Named WAC Men's Golfer Of The Month

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced the golfers of the month for September on Tuesday morning. After a strong pair of opening tournaments, New Mexico State men’s golfer Mike McGilton was named the WAC Golfer of the Month.

McGilton averaged an under-par 71.67 strokes through six rounds for the Aggies. In the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, he fired a 5-under, 211, to tie for third among 92 golfers. The senior golfer shot a 5-under-par, 67, in the second round that is tied for second in the WAC for low rounds on the month.

In the second tournament, McGilton rattled off a consistent scorecard at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, firing three straight rounds of 73 (+1) to finish tied for 32nd at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. The Chandler, Ariz. natives 71.67 stroke average in the month of September is over three strokes better than his career average of 74.94.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Michael McGilton Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar

NORMAN, OK - The Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars were announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. New Mexico State men’s golfer Michael McGilton was earned the honor after a stellar junior season.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

On top of excelling in the classroom, McGilton led all returning Aggies with a 74.14 stroke average after 36 rounds of play. The golfer also had three top-25 finishes with one top-10 finish on the year.

Kenneth Fadke Named WAC Golfer Of The Week

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State senior Kenneth Fadke II was selected as the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for his performance last week.

Fadke, a senior from Hobbs, N.M., paced the way for NM State in the Aggies spring opener. Playing in the Aggies No. 1 position, Fadke posted a 1-under-par 70 on the 7,262-yard course at Tucson’s Sewailo Golf Club in the first round of the Arizona Intercollegiate. He placed 23rd individually with an 8-over 221 in the field of 84 golfers. The Aggies finished 11th in the 17-team field that featured three Top 25 teams.

Fadke is the first men’s golfer honored by the conference in the 2015-16 season.

The Aggies have a couple of weeks before their next competition. NM State travels to Houston for the All-America Intercollegiate on Feb. 19-21.

WAC Announces All-Academic Honors for 2015 Spring Sports, Freshmen and Transfers, Sixty-Six Aggies Honored

DENVER, CO - The 2015 Academic All-WAC baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field teams have been announced, in addition to the Academic All-WAC freshmen/transfer teams for all sports.

A total of 311 spring student-athletes were named to the list, while 400 freshmen and transfers were added for a total of 711 student-athletes. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. NM State Men’s Golf Earns No. 10 Seed At Noblesville Regional

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State men’s golf team, who won the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Championship, was given the No. 10 seed at the NCAA men’s golf Noblesville Regional, May 14-16.

This marks the 14th appearance for the Aggies in an NCAA Regional and the third consecutive appearance. Beyhan Earns Second Consecutive Golfer Of The Week Award

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State senior Pat Beyhan has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 29-April 5 as announced by the league office, Monday April 6. This is Beyhan’s second consecutive Golfer of the Week award.

Beyhan, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., tied for fifth at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M, with a four-over 220. Head coach Mike Dirks knows is grateful to have such a mentally tough player like Beyhan on his team.

“Pat played great for two days at the Traditions Club,” said Coach Dirks. “The golf course really tests your ability to think and execute. Pat Beyhan Named WAC Men's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Pat Beyhan has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for Mar. 23 – Mar. 29.

Beyhan, a senior from Albuquerque, N.M. (La Cueva HS), finished tied for seventh at the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational, shooting a six-under 210. His best round came in the second as he fired a four-under 68 as the Aggies finished eighth against a highly-competitive field. As a team, New Mexico State shot a one-under 863, including a six-under 285 in the first round.

Luis Medina Named WAC Men's Golfer Of The Month

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Luis Medina has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for October.

Medina, a sophomore from Guadalajara, Mexico (Monteverde Academy), had the best scoring average of any WAC player during the month of October (68.8). Media led the Aggies to a pair of team wins, defending the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and winning UTEP’s Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational. He won his first individual title during the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, tying with two teammates with a seven-under 206. He followed that up with the ninth-place finish at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational, carding a 10-under 206. He leads the WAC this season with a 70.46 scoring average.

NM State Men’s Golf Heads To NCAA Regionals May 15-17

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced, May 5 that the New Mexico State men's golf team will be the No. 11 seed in the NCAA Regional Tournament at the par-72, 7,151-yard Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course in Sugar Grove, Ill., hosted by Northern Illinois, May 15-17.

This is the sixth trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the Aggies. NM State won its seventh WAC Championship, May 4, earning a spot at the regional tournament.

The Aggies send junior Pat Beyhan, sophomore Kenneth Fadke II, junior Brett Walker, senior Willy Hogan and senior Zach Adams to the regional tournament. Fadke II, Walker and Hogan all played in the 2013 regional for the Aggies.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Pat Beyhan Named WAC Men's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Pat Beyhan has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for Jan. 27-Feb. 2.

Beyhan, a junior from Albuquerque, N.M. (Western New Mexico), helped lead the Aggies to a fifth-place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate last week. He carded a three-round score of 1-over par, 214, placing tied for fifth overall. Beyhan opened the tournament with a 3-under par 68, recording two birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey. For the tournament, Beyhan had six birdies and an eagle.

The Aggies will be back in action on Feb. 21-23 at the Bayou City Classic in Houston, Texas.
