Fadke Named WAC Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Kenneth Fadke has been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for April 1-7.

Fadke, a freshman from Hobbs, N.M. (Hobbs HS), tied for fifth place at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational over the weekend in Tempe, Ariz. Fadke shot a 5-under 66 in the final round with three birdies and an eagle to finish at 6-under for the tournament (72-69-66—207). The 66 was a career-low for him and the best by any player in the 100-player field for the third round.

Fadke and the Aggies compete at the 2013 WAC Championships April 29-May1 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Shin and Fullerton To Compete At NCAA Regional Golf Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State men’s golfers junior Justin Shin and senior Zachery Fullerton were selected to compete in the 2012 NCAA Regional Tournament at the Stanford Golf Course, May 17-19.

Shin competed in 12 tournaments for the Aggies in 2011-12, averaging 70.8 strokes per round, and recorded 23 rounds of even or under par golf during the season. Shin finished in second place three times in 2011-12 and recorded seven top-5 finishes. He finished second at the 2012 WAC Championships (4/30-5/2) with a three-round score of 5-under par, earning first team All-WAC honors. Shin placed second overall at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate tournament (10/24-25) by shooting 12-under par, and helped the Aggies finish in third place as a team. He shot a 2-under, 208 at the 66th Annual Western Intercollegiate (4/14-15) and finished in a tie for second place. Shin shot a tournament-low and career-low of 64 in the final round of the 2012 Desert Shootout (3/22-24). He finished the tournament eight strokes under-par and tied for a fourth place finish. Shin finished in third place at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (9/25-27), carding a score of 4-under par. Shin shot an 8-under par at the Mark Simpson Invitational (9/12-13), finishing in fourth place. Shin finished in second place at the two-round 2012 New Mexico Cup (2/4) where he shot a 7-under par. At the 2012 Wyoming Cowboy Classic (4/9-10) Shin shot a season-low 66 in the first round. He led the Aggies finishing at 4-under par and tied for a ninth place finish.

Fullerton competed in 10 tournaments for the Aggies in 2011-12, averaging 73.3 strokes per round, with a low round of 62. He carded 12 rounds of even or under par golf for the season. Fullerton had two top-5 and four top-10 finishes, including two tournament victories. He finished tied for 16th at the 2012 WAC Championships (4/30-5/2) with a three-round score of 9-over par, while earning second All-WAC honors. Fullerton won the Rice Intercollegiate tournament (2/20-21) with a score of 4-under par, 210. He also won the two-round 2012 New Mexico Cup (2/4), carding a 12-under par, 132. Fullerton tied for seventh place at the Mark Simpson Invitational (9/12-13). He tied for ninth place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate tournament (10/24-25) and helped lead the Aggies to a third place team finish.

Justin Shin Named WAC Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State's Justin Shin has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for April 9-15.

Shin, a junior from Maple Ridge, British Columbia (Thomas Haney Secondary School), posted two top-10 finishes last week.  At the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., Shin tied for ninth place with a 5-under par 205 (66-70-69).  He then followed that up with 2-under par 208 (68-69-71) to tie for second place at the Western Intercollegiate over this past weekend.  Shin, the round two leader, finished two strokes behind the eventual champion.  The tournament featured seven of the top-15 teams in the country.  It is the second time that Shin has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

The Aggies will compete at the 2012 WAC Championships on April 30-May 2 in Las Vegas, Nev.

DENVER, CO – New Mexico State’s Justin Shin has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for March 19-25.

Shin, a junior from Maple Ridge, British Columbia (Thomas Haney Secondary School), tied for fourth place at the 2012 Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Ariz., last week. After the second round, Shin was at even par and in a tie for 28th. He then went out and posted an 8-under par 64 in the final round, tied for the lowest round during the entire tournament. It is the first time that Shin has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

The Aggies will be back in action at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, April 9-10 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Zachery Fullerton Named WAC Golfer Of The Week

ENGLEWOOD, CO – New Mexico State men’s golfer Zachery Fullerton has been named the WAC Golf of the Week, announced by the WAC office on Tuesday afternoon. It is the second time in his career that Fullerton has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Fullerton, a senior from Albuquerque, N.M. (New Mexico JC), won his second straight tournament of the spring with a 6-under par 210 (68-74-68) at the Rice Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-21. His score was the third lowest in event history. Fullerton won the tournament after defeating Eric Chun of Northwestern on the third playoff hole of a sudden death tie-breaker. He had just one bogey during the three rounds.

The Aggies will be back in action on March 9-11 at the 2012 Southern Highlands Collegiate Master's in Las Vegas, Nev.

Zachery Fullerton Named WAC Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State’s Zachery Fullerton has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for January 30-February 5.

Fullerton, a senior from Albuquerque, N.M. (New Mexico JC), won the New Mexico Collegiate Cup last week in Truth or Consequences, N.M. Fullerton carded a two-round score of 12-under par 132 (63-69) at the 7,013-yard Sierra Del Rio Golf Club. He won by five strokes over his teammate, Justin Shin, and was one of just three players in the field of 30 under par. It is the first time in his career that Fullerton has won a WAC golfer of the week or month award.

Mike Dirks Named As New Mexico State Head Men's Golf Coach

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston announced today that Mike Dirks has been hired as the new men’s golf coach for the Aggies.

“Mike Dirks has certainly had a history of coaching success at several schools including one of the premier programs in the country at the University of Houston,” Dr. Boston said. “I am very excited that he has chosen to lead our golf program. De La Torre, Madigan Earn Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar Honors

NORMAN, OK - Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for Divisions I, II and the NAIA have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A total of 138 players in Division I, 49 in Division II and three in NAIA earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Senior Tim Madigan and junior Gaston De La Torre were two of the five players from the WAC to earn the honor. Madigan and De La Torre helped New Mexico State earn its fourth consecutive WAC title.

Lieberwirth Departs From New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State Athletics Director Dr. McKinley Boston announced today that men’s golf coach Scott Lieberwirth has taken the head coaching position with the UTEP Miners. Lieberwirth leaves NM State after eight successful seasons in the Crimson and White, leading the Aggies to six conference championships, including five in the last six years. He was selected as the conference coach of the year five times, while guiding 15 players to all-conference selections, two conference player of the year winners and two freshman of the year players.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Tim Madigan Named To 2011 Division I Ping All-West Region Team

Aggie senior men's golfer Tim Madigan was named to the 2011 Division I Ping All-West Region Team as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Tuesday, May 31. Madigan is one of 152 golfers across six regions to earn All-Region honors and the lone honoree from the Western Athletic Conference.

Madigan finished his four-year career at New Mexico State helping the Aggies win four consecutive WAC Tournament titles while earning back-to-back WAC Player of the Year awards winning in 2010 and again in 2011.
