Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - NM State’s Pun Chanachai has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 8 through March 14.

Chanachai, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), continued to lead the Aggies against some of the top competition in the country at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. The freshman shot a 3-under-par 213 to finish tied for third among 75 individuals. She set a new career best of 3-under-par 69 in the final round as the Aggies took second among 13 teams, including Houston, UNLV, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas State, all of whom were above NMSU in the NCAA team rankings.

Kristen Cline Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - NM State’s Kristen Cline has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for the week of Feb. 22 through Feb. 28.

Kline, a senior from Socorro, N.M. (Socorro HS), played her best golf of the season at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. She finished the 54-hole tournament with a 2-under-par 214, Her best round came on the first day, firing a 5-under-par 67 as she eventually finished in a tie for sixth among 76 golfers. As a team, the Aggies took sixth, finishing ahead of tournament-host Wisconsin, Oregon State, Notre Dame, Washington State and Nebraska.

NMSU Women's Golf Signs Three In 2017 Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After a great start to the season for the New Mexico State women's golf team, things got even better on signing day. The Aggies landed three recruits that will improve their lineup heading into 2017-18.

The recruiting class includes Tammy Lim out of Clovis, Calif., Kehler Koss from Calgary, Alberta and Tiegan Taylor hailing from Kelowna, British Columbia.

"As a team, we will have three seniors graduate this spring, so all three freshmen coming in will definitely have some playing time to battle for and a chance to earn their way into the top-five traveling team." Said head coach Jackie Booth when asked about the new class. "Each one of them is an excellent student and has also shown the ability to excel in National Jr events. So we're looking forward to them being here and getting adjusted to campus life and school with their new teammates. NMSU Women's Golf Head Coach Jackie Booth Named Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award Recipient

CORAL SPRINGS, FL - New Mexico State women’s golf coach Jackie Booth has been named the 2017 Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award Recipient on Thursday. This award is the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s (WGCA) most prestigious honor. Booth will be recognized for this award on Sunday, December 11 at the WGCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award is given by the WGCA in recognition of outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty. The award honors individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the evolution and growth of women’s collegiate golf.

“This is a tremendous honor,” said Booth. “Volunteering for committees taught me more than I felt I gave in return. I have learned a lot about golf, but to me the life lessons and examples of people I worked with were the reward.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Month

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Pun Chanachai was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for October. The freshman led the Aggies through two events this past month with a pair of top-30 showings.

Chanachai, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand posted the top scoring average in the WAC by over a stroke, finishing the month averaging 72.40 per round. At the NM State Aggie Invitational, Chanachai shot 71-74-75—220 (+4) to finish in a tie for 2nd among 59 golfers as the Aggies captured the team title.

Play at the Aggie Invitational was followed up with a 72-70—142 (-2) at the weather-shortened Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, tying for 28th among 105 golfers.

Throughout the NM State Aggie Invitational and Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Chanachai shot 56 holes for par and 16 birdies after five rounds of play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Kristen Cline Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Month

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Kristen Cline was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month, for September. The senior led the defending WAC Champion Aggies through their first two events with a pair of top-15 placings.

At the Red Raider Invitational, she shot 73-72-75—220 (+4), which put her in a tie for sixth among the 75 golfers. This score helped lead NM State to its first tournament title of the season. That tournament was followed up by the Golfweek Conference Challenge which saw Cline fire 73-72-74—219 (+3). The senior tied for 14th out of 90 golfers and the Aggies took seventh place in the tournament.

Throughout the Red Raider Invitational and Golfweek Conference Challenge, Cline shot 38 and 37 holes for par, respectively, as well as hitting seven birdies in each event. After six rounds, the Socorro, N.M. native has an average score of 73.17, which leads the WAC.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Golf Wins Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, TX - The NM State women’s golf team pulled away from the competition on Tuesday and won the Red Raider Invitational by nine strokes. The team fired a final round of 295 (+7), which led the field. Four Aggies finished the invitational in the top-10.

Kennedie Montoya and Camille Orito led the team and finished tied for fourth as they carded a 3-over (219). Montoya led the field with 38 holes for par, and hit five birdies and one eagle over two days. Orito led the team in the final round firing a one-under (71), which included four birdies, putting her total up to 11 for the tournament.

Kristen Cline finished tied for sixth (220) after firing a three-over, 75, in Tuesday’s final round. Vale Macias also fired a 75 on Tuesday and finished tied for 10th place (222). Maria Prado rounded out the Aggies contingent and finished in 70th place (246).  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Women's Tennis And Women's Golf Recognized By NCAA

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's golf team and women's tennis team have been recognized by the NCAA for outstanding performance in the classroom.

The NCAA made the announcement today with the Aggie golf and tennis teams joining the 649 women's teams earning the NCAA Public Recognition Award based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rate. A total of 1,071 teams are being recognized for their high achievement this year.

Both the women's tennis team and the women's golf team scored a perfect 1,000 APR score to rank in the top 10 percent of their sport. The two teams were among the 944 programs with perfect scores.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Camille Orito And Kristen Cline Named WGCA All-American Scholars

Aggie sophomore women's golfers Camille Orito and Kristen Cline were among the honorees for the 2014-15 season who were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.

The duo were among 758 women's golf honorees that spanned across Divison I, Division II and Division III.

WAC Announces All-Academic Honors for 2015 Spring Sports, Freshmen and Transfers, Sixty-Six Aggies Honored

DENVER, CO - The 2015 Academic All-WAC baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field teams have been announced, in addition to the Academic All-WAC freshmen/transfer teams for all sports.

A total of 311 spring student-athletes were named to the list, while 400 freshmen and transfers were added for a total of 711 student-athletes. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
