Dominique Galloway Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Month

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced golfers of the month on Thursday. After posting a pair of top-15 finishes in the month of October, NM State women’s golfer Dominique Galloway earned WAC Golfer of the Month for the first time in her Aggie career.

Galloway posted the lowest score on the NM State women’s golf roster in each of the teams October tournaments. With a second place finish in the NM State Aggie Invitational, a new personal best, and 13th at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

The Rio Rancho, N.M. native’s round score of 69 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown was also a career-low. For the month of October, the sophomore led the WAC with a 71.83 scoring average.

The golfer also posted a career-best 18-hole score in the second round of the Las Vegas Showdown, firing a 3-under-par 69. On the season, Galloway leads the WAC with a 71.58 stroke average through 12 rounds.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Month

DENVER, CO - NM State’s Pun Chanachai has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for September.

Chanachai, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), continued right where she left off last season, earning victories in both tournaments she entered and leading the Aggies to a pair of team titles as well. In the season-opening Hobble Creek Fall Classic, she shot a 9-under-par 204 to finish first, posting all three rounds in the 60s. She followed that up with a win at the Col. Wollenberg’s Ram Classic, shooting an 11-under-par 205 which included a WAC-record 9-under-par 63 in the tournament’s second round. She is currently ninth in the Golfstat Cup rankings and 15th in the Golfweek Individual Rankings.

NMSU Women's Golf And Women's Tennis Earn NCAA Public Recognition Award

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - New Mexico State’s women’s golf and women’s tennis teams were recognized on Wednesday with the NCAA Public Recognition Award for the 2015-16 academic year. Both Aggie squads posted a perfect 1,000 multiyear rate for the 2012-16 school years.

“Striving for Academic Progress Rate (APR) excellence is a vision all of our athletic teams aspire to accomplish and when respective teams reach that milestone, the entire athletic department celebrates the honored victory with them,” said Associate AD/Academics James Hall said.

This is the third-straight year where the women’s tennis team has posted a perfect multi-year APR grade while it is the women’s golf team’s second-straight year.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Women's Golf Heads To Albuquerque For NCAA Regional

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s golf team begins its pursuit of the team’s 10th appearance in the NCAA Championship just north in the Albuquerque, N.M. NCAA Regional on May 8-10, after earning the 14 seed on Thursday. The 2017 postseason marks the fourth consecutive NCAA Regionals appearance for the program.

Joining the Aggies at the regional is the No. 1 team in the nation Stanford, No. 9 Duke, No. 12 USC, No. 16 University of Miami (Florida), No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 24 N.C. Orito Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - Camille Orito was named Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. The senior led NM State to an eighth place finish at the Hawkeye 'El Tigre' Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from April 2-4.

The Fresno, Calif. native finished tied for 20th at the end of the tournament. This was her fourth top-25 finish of the season with improved scores each day to move up the leaderboard at the invitational. After shooting a 76 (+4) in the opening round, Orito improved by three strokes in round two and finished with an even-par round of 72 to close out at 221 (+5).

The improved play by the senior was a catalyst for the team as they also moved up the leaderboard each day to finish in 8th.

The player of the week honor was the first of the spring season for Orito and the fourth for the team with Pun Chanachai grabbing two and Kristen Cline adding one.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - NM State’s Pun Chanachai has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 8 through March 14.

Chanachai, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand (The Demonstration School of Ramkhamhaeng), continued to lead the Aggies against some of the top competition in the country at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. The freshman shot a 3-under-par 213 to finish tied for third among 75 individuals. She set a new career best of 3-under-par 69 in the final round as the Aggies took second among 13 teams, including Houston, UNLV, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas State, all of whom were above NMSU in the NCAA team rankings.

Kristen Cline Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - NM State’s Kristen Cline has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for the week of Feb. 22 through Feb. 28.

Kline, a senior from Socorro, N.M. (Socorro HS), played her best golf of the season at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz. She finished the 54-hole tournament with a 2-under-par 214, Her best round came on the first day, firing a 5-under-par 67 as she eventually finished in a tie for sixth among 76 golfers. As a team, the Aggies took sixth, finishing ahead of tournament-host Wisconsin, Oregon State, Notre Dame, Washington State and Nebraska.

NMSU Women's Golf Signs Three In 2017 Class

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After a great start to the season for the New Mexico State women's golf team, things got even better on signing day. The Aggies landed three recruits that will improve their lineup heading into 2017-18.

The recruiting class includes Tammy Lim out of Clovis, Calif., Kehler Koss from Calgary, Alberta and Tiegan Taylor hailing from Kelowna, British Columbia.

"As a team, we will have three seniors graduate this spring, so all three freshmen coming in will definitely have some playing time to battle for and a chance to earn their way into the top-five traveling team." Said head coach Jackie Booth when asked about the new class. "Each one of them is an excellent student and has also shown the ability to excel in National Jr events. So we're looking forward to them being here and getting adjusted to campus life and school with their new teammates. NMSU Women's Golf Head Coach Jackie Booth Named Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award Recipient

CORAL SPRINGS, FL - New Mexico State women’s golf coach Jackie Booth has been named the 2017 Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award Recipient on Thursday. This award is the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s (WGCA) most prestigious honor. Booth will be recognized for this award on Sunday, December 11 at the WGCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Gladys Palmer Meritorious Service Award is given by the WGCA in recognition of outstanding service above and beyond the call of duty. The award honors individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the evolution and growth of women’s collegiate golf.

“This is a tremendous honor,” said Booth. “Volunteering for committees taught me more than I felt I gave in return. I have learned a lot about golf, but to me the life lessons and examples of people I worked with were the reward.”  Continue Reading This Post >>

Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Month

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Pun Chanachai was named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for October. The freshman led the Aggies through two events this past month with a pair of top-30 showings.

Chanachai, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand posted the top scoring average in the WAC by over a stroke, finishing the month averaging 72.40 per round. At the NM State Aggie Invitational, Chanachai shot 71-74-75—220 (+4) to finish in a tie for 2nd among 59 golfers as the Aggies captured the team title.

Play at the Aggie Invitational was followed up with a 72-70—142 (-2) at the weather-shortened Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, tying for 28th among 105 golfers.

Throughout the NM State Aggie Invitational and Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Chanachai shot 56 holes for par and 16 birdies after five rounds of play.  Continue Reading This Post >>
