Four NMSU Women's Golfers Earn Academic All-American Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, FL - The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars were announced Monday morning with four NM State student-athletes earning the honor. The Aggies named WGCA All-American Scholars are Kehler Koss, Angela Xu, Pun Chanachai and Maria Prado.

Both Koss and Prado also earned the award last season. Under head coach Danny Bowen, New Mexico State posted a 3.75 team GPA for the spring semester while also winning the Western Athletic Conference Championship.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is a minimum 3.50 GPA, one of the most stringent requirements in all of college athletics. All told, 1,097 women’s collegiate golfers were named WGCA All-American Scholars.

NMSU Women's Golf Headed To Cle Elem For NCAA Regionals

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women's golf team seeks its 10th appearance in the NCAA Championship when it travels to the Cle Elum NCAA Regional as a 16 seed on May 6-8. This is the Aggies fifth trip to NCAA Regionals in the last six years and 22nd overall.

Joining New Mexico State at the Cle Elum regional at Tumble Creek Club is No. 1 USC, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 South Carolina, No. 16 Northwestern, No. 19 Washington, No. 23 Miami, Oregon, San Jose State, Oregon State, Old Dominion, Iowa State, San Diego State, UCF, Ohio State, Sacramento State, Boston U and Southern Illinois. Tumble Creek is a 6,306-yard, par-72 course. NM State also competed at Tumble Creek in the 2014 NCAA Regional.

Galloway Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Year, Bowen Named Coach Of The Year

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced its women's golf All-WAC awards on Tuesday with multiple Aggies receiving honors headlined by Dominique Galloway earning Player of the Year. Danny Bowen was named Coach of the Year while Pun Chanachai was named First Team All-WAC.

Galloway earned the Player of the Year award, and her second-consecutive First Team All-WAC honor, after winning the WAC Championship to go along with the third-best stroke average in the conference (73.9). Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced its golfers of the week on Wednesday. After a record-breaking tournament finish, NM State’s Pun Chanchai was named the WAC Women’s Golfer of the Week for the third time this spring.

An incredible week saw Chanachai set a new program record with her sixth individual win after earning medalist honors at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, to pass former Aggie and current LPGA golfer Alena Sharp. The Bangkok, Thailand natives success at the event in Maricopa, Ariz. continued for the second-straight year after the golfer also set a course record for the lowest round by an individual shooting a 65 (-7) during the second round of the tournament back in 2018.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced its golfers of the week on Wednesday. After stellar play at the Wildcat Invitational, New Mexico State’s Pun Chanachai was named the WAC Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Chanachai shot a 77-76-74—227 (+11) to finish in a tie for 22nd at the tournament. The junior’s strong day saw her finish ahead of two top-50 and another top-100 golfer. This finish also saw the golfer finish with a 4-0-1 record against competing WAC players.

This is Chanachai’s second golfer of the week honor this season. The New Mexico State women’s golf team is set to get back in action at the Red Rock Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. from March 23-24.

Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced its first women’s golfer of the week honor for the spring season on Wednesday. After a win at the Mission Hills Invite, NM State golfer Pun Chanachai earned the WAC award.

The one-round tournament saw the junior capture the fifth individual title of her career, tying current LPGA golfer and former Aggie Alena Sharp for the most wins in school history.

Chanachai tied with Idaho’s Vicky Tsai for the individual championship and the pair were the only golfers to shoot under-par firing a 71 (-1) at the end of the 18-hole event. This was the second year in a row the Aggie golfer won the Mission Hills Invite after shooting a two-under, 70, as a sophomore in 2018.

Looking to carry on the momentum, the New Mexico State women’s golf squad now gets set for the Rebel/Beach Invitational at the Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas, Nev. from Feb. 18-19.

Pun Chanachai Headed To NCAA Women's Golf Regionals

DENVER, CO - The National Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Division I Golf Regionals were selected Wednesday night. Following a standout sophomore season, including a second straight Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year honor, NM State’s Pun Chanachai was chosen as an NCAA individual qualifier for the Madison, Wisc. regional.

Chanachai earned the nod after leading the WAC in stroke average at 72.68. In 11 events played, the sophomore posted six top-5 finishes, including three individual championships. The Bangkok, Thailand native’s low round of 63 at the Col. Wollenberg’s Ram Classic set a new WAC record for low round and 14 of her 31 rounds were at or below par.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Dominique Galloway Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - New Mexico State women’s golf sophomore Dominique Galloway was named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.

This is the first golfer of the week accolade for the Rio Rancho, N.M., native after taking home WAC Golfer of the Month this past October. It is also NM State’s second-straight weekly honor.

After a shooting a 1-over 73 card in the first round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, Galloway carved her way through the course and recorded rounds of 70 and 71 for a 2-under 214 card this past Tuesday. The 2-under 214 total was good enough to tie her for second amongst a field of 111 while also leading the Aggies to a second-place team finish – the team’s best finish this spring.

This is Galloway’s fourth top-five finish this season while her 11 rounds under par is just one shy of teammate Pun Chanachai for the team lead.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Pun Chanachai Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Week

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced its golfers of the week on Wednesday. Following a strong three rounds of play at the MountainView Collegiate, New Mexico State women's golfer Pun Chanachai earned the nod for WAC Golfer of the Week.

Chanachai tied for fifth at the competitive MountainView Collegiate with a 1-over-par 217. After shooting a 2-over-par 74 in the opening round, the sophomore fired a 3-under-par 69 in the second round to briefly take over first place before another round of 74 (+2) settled her into the top-5 finish.

The strong week also propelled the defending WAC Player of the Year back into the top spot in the WAC statistics with a stroke average of 73.1. This is the second honor for Chanachai as she earned WAC Golfer of the Month in October, followed by teammate Dominique Galloway earning the award in November.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Dominique Galloway Named WAC Women's Golfer Of The Month

DENVER, CO - The Western Athletic Conference announced golfers of the month on Thursday. After posting a pair of top-15 finishes in the month of October, NM State women’s golfer Dominique Galloway earned WAC Golfer of the Month for the first time in her Aggie career.

Galloway posted the lowest score on the NM State women’s golf roster in each of the teams October tournaments. With a second place finish in the NM State Aggie Invitational, a new personal best, and 13th at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

The Rio Rancho, N.M. native’s round score of 69 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown was also a career-low. For the month of October, the sophomore led the WAC with a 71.83 scoring average.

The golfer also posted a career-best 18-hole score in the second round of the Las Vegas Showdown, firing a 3-under-par 69. On the season, Galloway leads the WAC with a 71.58 stroke average through 12 rounds.  Continue Reading This Post >>
