NMSU Women's Tennis Ends Season With WAC Quarterfinals Loss Against Seattle

PHOENIX, AZ - The New Mexico State women's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Friday at the mesa Tennis Center when it fell to Seattle U in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament 4-1.

The Aggies finished the season 8-15 overall under the direction of first-year head coach Emily Wang while finishing league play 2-3, good for third-place in the.

The Redhawks (9-13) took an early lead in doubles action when they took courts No. 2 and No. 1 against NM State. The No. 3 doubles team of Eli Arnaudova and Helena Colvee had their 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles sandwiched by SU (9-13) wins.

Second-Team All-WAC recipient Rebecca Keijzerwaard recorded NM State's lone point when she cruised past Seattle U's top singles player 6-0, 6-2. However, the Redhawks took a 2-1 lead when when Lily-Ana Kreutzer bested Colvee at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-3.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Rebecca Keijzerwaard Earns Second Team All-WAC Singles Honors

PHOENIX - Rebecca Keijzerwaard of the New Mexico State women’s tennis team took home Second-Team All-Western Athletic Conference honors in singles Thursday night at the WAC awards banquet.

This is the first All-WAC honor for the sophomore since joining the Aggies. She was named to the WAC All-Tournament team last season as a freshman in doubles after going 2-0 in the tournament.

Keijzerwaard finished the regular-season with eight victories – eight of which came in dual play. She also went 6-4 on the year at the top singles position for New Mexico State – including a 3-2 mark in league play.

The third-seeded Aggies are set to open the WAC Tournament on Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m. (MDT) against the fifth-seeded Redhawks of Seattle U at the Mesa Tennis Center.

Aggie Women's Tennis Falls To UTRGV In WAC Championship Match

BROWNSVILLE, TX - The 2015-16 season ended on Sunday for the NM State women’s tennis team when it fell to UT Rio Grande Valley 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference Championship match held at the Brownsville Tennis Center.

Things started off well for the Aggies (11-10) as its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams cruised to a 6-2 victory, giving NM State the 1-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Erika Castillo Lopez and Gabrielle Joyce was the first to finish when they dispatched Reegan Greenwood and Tara Donaho. Shortly after, Ashvarya Shrivastav and Rimpeldeep Kaur ousted their counterparts on court No. 2.

Kaur gave New Mexico State an early 2-0 lead when she sent Dominique Esparza packing with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. The win gave Kaur her seventh-straight victory in singles play.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NM State Women’s Tennis Win First WAC Championship

KANSAS CITY, MO - The New Mexico State women’s tennis team won its first Western Athletic Conference Championship in program history after handling UT-Pan American, 4-0, in Sunday’s championship match.

The top-seeded Aggies also earned their first berth to the NCAA Tournament in program history and went through the WAC Championships with dropping a point.

“This is a great day for NM State women’s tennis,” NM State head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “It has been a year since we lost in the finals last year and we’ve been waiting to redeem ourselves ever since.”

In addition to Sunday’s historic win, NM State also garnered several WAC postseason accolades.

Senior Susana Alcaraz and junior Ashvarya Shrivistava were named to the first team All-WAC in singles, while in doubles, Shrivistava and senior Denise Van Der Ben earned first team All-WAC honors.  Continue Reading This Post >>

Aggie Women's Tennis Fall To Idaho In WAC Championship Match

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State women’s tennis team fell to the No. 1 seed Idaho in Sunday’s 2014 WAC Tennis Championship finals at the NM State Tennis Center. The Aggies end their season 11-12 overall. No doubles matches were played in the match.

“We knew it was going to be a very good match and unfortunately we just couldn’t get it together today,” head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “Idaho is a very good team. The fact that we got to this point after an up and down season really shows the heart and dedication of our team. Making it all the way to the finals with a chance to win is a testament to our players and this program. Aggie Women's Tennis Claims Doubles Title At UNLV

LAS VEGAS - The New Mexico State women's tennis team claimed the flight three doubles championship on the final day of the UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Runnin' Rebels' Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.

The NM State pairing of sophomore Annemieke Witte and junior Jodie Williams won the flight three doubles championship in extra games, edging Morgan Bechtel and Bettina Botha of Florida Gulf Coast 9-7 in Sunday's final.

Playing in the flight two singles championship, Junior Ginet Pinero suffered her first loss of the fall season after a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Ania Jeczmionka of Long Beach State.  Continue Reading This Post >>
